Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

Can I join? I want to start getting my house in order

KTCluck · 08/12/2019 14:07

Hope the dance exam goes well Too and hope your DD feels better soon Croissant.

My DH is the king of passive aggressive / grumpiness SC. He’s so calm and I’ve never seen him lose his temper, but when he’s in a grump he drives me mad until I get snappy and then I’m the one in the wrong 🙄. He pulls his weight with childcare and cooking, and isn’t too bad with the house, but he cannot see what needs done, I always have to ask. Several times. Then he gets irritated that I keep asking as he was going to do it apparently, but now doesn’t want to because he’s been told to. He’s like a teenager Grin.

Ive I made DD’s birthday cake this year. I suspect next year Asda will be making it.

Welcome Tammy. I find the thread helps keep me motivated. Once I’ve posted my to do list I’m committed and get up and do it.

Ta da:
DD Christmas cards written out
Emergency co-op dash
Clean washing put away.
Pile of paperwork sorted.
Bedding washed and in the dryer. DD’s in the wash.
Upstairs semi tidied.
Under bed cleared in prep for carpets getting cleaned through the week.
Dishwasher loaded
Relatives visited.

To Do:
Ironing
Bags packed for work / nursery
Soup made for work lunches while doing sausage and mash for dinner.
Beds made up.
Vac under bed / clean skirting board of inch of dust to spare the carpet guy

DD wants to go to the park but I’m trying to talk her out of it. It’s right be the sea, totally exposed, and it’s blowing a gale.

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/12/2019 15:55

Welcome Tammy Smile.

Hope you avoided the park KT.

Thanks for all good wishes for DD1. As you said Christmas they seemed to all come out excited and said the examiner was really nice SmileSmileSmile. SC, she did enjoy it!! seemed a lot scarier for the higher grades though of course.

Have a fabulous time tonight Willow Xmas Smile.

Aaaaaagggh. Went to pick up DD1 from party. On the way home in the car she opened her sweet cone thing. Sweets everywhere on the back of my car. Too dark to do anything about it. Will have to hoover whole car tomorrow Angry. Get into house to find that DD2 has been asleep ShockAngry while with DH. Woke her up. She has had hardly any tea and I really hope she now sleeps tonight. Plus I have nearly lost my voice. Very very ready for bedtime here.

< joins stressy >

Day pretty much a write off. Ended up having few hours long nap Blush still feel rough but not in pain now. Last three weeks i just seem to have had one illness after another and i am pissed off

TammyKat · 08/12/2019 18:04

Thank you stressy Smilei will start from tomorrow

Sistercharlie · 08/12/2019 18:20

A warm welcome to Tammy

That sounds about right with dps/dhs and diy Marvelous - lifting up the kitchen floor 17 days before Christmas is virtually mandatory Grin Grin. You have my sympathies!

As do you KTCluck with the "not wishing to do something because they have been asked" schtick" ... which is indeed infuriating!!

And wasn't your dh doing something on your landing too Foxes? 'Tis the season! Smile

Oh dear Toostressy I hope your evening improves Gin Another dh not being very helpful. Great that your dd enjoyed her exam though!

Great lists one and all Star

I think my despair got through to dh yesterday as the very rare sound of sawing (with a few expletives thrown in) could be heard drifting up from the basement this morning ... Smile Rarer than the cry of a lesser spotted something or other. A few tasks have been achieved ... but unfortunately the list keeps growing!

Christmas guests have confirmed that they are definitely coming now though so operation menu planning can go ahead properly.

Ta da:
another dog walk
X 2 loads of laundry washed and hung up
X 2 more on
emptied dw
wrote master list
wrote rough menu plan - to refine
found pudding glass cup things in basement
found half a soup tureen in roof (but can't find lid and ladle gah!)
helped dh fix shelves in new shabby bit of furniture
fed everyone a roast with trimmings
a couple of phone calls with family
phone call with parent re: délégué de classe business
ordered a loose sofa cover in desperation

And poof that's another afternoon gone!

Have a good evening everyone!

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/12/2019 19:13

Evening has not improved. Milk spilt all over computer. It’s working now but we have shut it down and will have to see how it is in the morning.

Computer is still working so fingers very tightly crossed.

DD2 is wide awake Hmm.

zoo, you really would not want to eat sweets out of the back of my car. They are all in the foot wells surrounded by mud and leaves!

I am going to post the links and wait and hope DD2 gets tired then I can collapse.

Oh no toostressy , we have constant spilled milk in our house I don't know how we've got away with it not going on the computer yet...hope it's ok tomorrow!

Well I've just spent more £££ on Christmas, only went online to look for one thing for ds Hmm

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/12/2019 21:20

It is so expensive isn’t it. I’ve just spent £12 on tickets to see Father Christmas Angry. Luckily an advert for it popped up on my Facebook feed. Made me realise that the admission tickets I have already paid for do not in fact include seeing Santa. It is a day out with my parents so cannot do anything to make things even more stressful so just paid the £12.

DD2 just said to me that she can’t get to sleep. Yes love, because you took a nap in the late afternoon. Thank goodness I woke her up. She does finally seem drowsy now.

Plan for tonight:-
Put on some laundry
Get myself ready for bed
Find Christmas snack to eat. I’m thinking mince pie. Considering Gin but might not bother.

5 mins decluttering spare room (parents sleeping in there Saturday night so it has to be done)
15 minutes calendar planning
15 minutes card / present / some kind of Christmas organising as it is stressing me out!! Then I feel guilty because I should be enjoying it and should be grateful to be very busy and to have all these people in my life for presents etc.

Woohoo she is nearly asleep. Going to go downstairs in a bit.

Just checking in to say good luck with school Laputa.

Stressy - sorry to hear about the milk/sweets spills. We had a cery expensive milk spill a few years ago - living room carpet soaked, we cleaned it all up then sprinkled bicarb on to absorb the smell away. DH took it upon himself to hoover it before it had completely dried and burned out the hoover motor.

Ive - I know exactly what you mean about frittering away precious time when the DCs are at school, I find unless I have a list and stick to it nothing gets done. Then in days when I'm working I run around squeezing lots of jobs in.

Tada!

Slept till 9am (almost unheard of).
Washing on, bathroom cleaned.
Christmas shopping with DS - nearly all sone now.
Lunch
More washing
Put up outside fairy lights (in hedges, not up high)
Christmas dec boxes back to loft, wrapping paper and stoclings brought down.
Took DS to football
Sat in car writing Christmas cards, updatimg diary etc
Went to see Christmas lights on the way home and had a bit to eat while out.
Watched Strictly (recorded as not back in time).
An hour on the computer for volunteer role plus sorting out school to do list (two secondaries = two different Christmas jumper days, two different Christmas dinner days, church service for one, choir concert for another. DCs will remember most of this but helpful if I know what's what).
Early night - fail.

LivingInLaputa · 09/12/2019 01:06

Aw thanks! Spent the last couple of days frantically getting ready and I think we are ok! She also had some epic news this evening at her ballroom presentation thing - she was awarded pupil of the year! Shock (Sorry to those who already saw this on my FB but sod it I’m sharing it here too :o)

Not looking forward to the early start tomorrow but I’m excited for her. She’s hopefully getting some decent sleep now as she had 8 hours dancing today in total (bad timing as two different events, and her best friend’s sleepover on Friday). Maybe it’s a good thing she’s knackered though as I dare say the anxiety would be worse otherwise.

HungryHazelEyes · 09/12/2019 05:14

TooStressy well done to your DD for her ballet.

laputa well done to your DD, you must be so proud- and rightly so!

Ive I hope baby isn't sick Flowers

Sorry I have been away from the thread for a while, I've been so busy lately. I've been able to keep up with cleaning the kitchen every night, getting my clothes out the night before (execpt last night and was so thrown off this morning!). I still have Christmas decorations to get up (lights inside my house), presents to wrap and goodies to make. Cards also need to get written in and sent (deadline looming for international mail), but it seems all I want to do is sleep!!

Welcome to the newcomers, and hello to everybody else. Sorry for not mentioning all names.

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/12/2019 06:04

Good luck to your DD Laputa! Massive congratulations too to her Smile.
