...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

In case anyone's wondering if I've blown away, we bailed out on the camping and are having a staycation weekend instead (relatives now staying with us instead of us all camping). The DH's have taken al the DCs swimming this afternoon so I've had a couple of hours by myself, I've done a load of washing which will probably be dry on the line by now (put it out all of half an hour ago) and run the vac round. Now sitting in the garden with a cuppa, it's sunny and quite warm despite the wind.

Bowerbird5 · 10/08/2019 17:17

Glad you are enjoying it despite the disappointment ED.
You wouldn’t have wanted to camp near here it has rained all last night and most of today.

Good shopping Lisette.

I’m still feeling sick.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/08/2019 17:32

ED glad you didn't camp.wouldnt have been fun.nice you getting a break and a cuppa
Lisette well done on the footwear organisingStar

Tada
Two loads washing done, dry, fold and put away
Lunch,wash up and wipe surfaces
Make a jelly
Bit painting in D's dungeon
Read bit Harry potter with D's
Watch episode dance moms with lil zoo
Do workout with lil zoo(surprised at how I didn't die doing itI may suffer for it with stiff limbs tomorrow insteadGrin

To do
Something with living room
Dinner- baked salmon with pesto, green beans and carrots.new potatoes/rosemary and red onion veggie sausages, sweet potato wedges.roast broccoli, asparagus, mushrooms and tomatoes.jelly for all and whatever fresh fruit is left not much will need get some more tomorrow

Please tell me I am not alone having locusts rather than children during school holidays.my purse says I've done food shopping,my cupboards/fridge do not reflect it....

Bowerbird5 · 10/08/2019 19:10

Ohh thanks zoo I could do with some or dry toast. I haven’t got any biscuits or bread and the road is flooded.

Watched most of Four in a Bed and now watching Come Dine. I am hungry but feel sick. Trying to starve self for 24 hours. If medical problem I will need antibiotics but weekend and if I do manage to get out of village I might not get back in.

LivingInLaputa · 10/08/2019 19:14

Thanks folks, yes it’s worth complaining I think. I’m normally terrible for that - no matter how upset I am I end up just letting it lie, but this time I really need to go to PALS - I really can’t express how much worse things have gotten in the meantime :( I’ll complain once I’ve sorted it (I’m not back in the system at all, I am going to ring first thing Monday and get an appt with the GP and ask them to refer me again. Hopefully they will allow me to skip the triage bit this time as obviously all my history hasn’t changed.)

Had an amazing day today though thankfully. Saw an anime in London with DSD, went to Chinatown for lunch and tried the very fashionable Bubbletea. Really nice just being the two of us and the film was ace.

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/08/2019 19:20

Wow well done on shoe shopping Lisette.

Hope you feel better soon Bower and glad you had a better day today Laputa.

I also have locusts zoo!

Staycation sounds like it was a sensible idea Expletive.

Big wing flaps to everyone else. Back on in a bit with links

Lisette1940 · 10/08/2019 20:01

That's rotten Bower. Horrible feeling to feel hungry but also sick. Keep hydrated if you can.

Laputa glad you enjoyed the anime. And I do think you should raise your care issues with Pals.

ED enjoy your cuppa in the garden. And I'm joining you in painting Zoo. Just touchups and woodwork around basin and bedside table tops.

Ds has soccer on Tuesday which was news to me because I had recycled all his soccer boots in anticipation of no soccer til September! Panicked male expressions in the house. The men organising the game don't know yet where it's being held so I don't know if his indoor runners will do! Anyway soccer boots arriving Monday now so crisis averted. I need to mark all school stuff but that's for another day.

Top coat later tonight, second coat tomorrow. Also I'm on juice table at church so expect locusts children for biscuits.

🍒🌊

Thanks Lisette. It got too much and I have had something to eat but actually feel a bit better since eating. It depends how it goes from now on.

Had to laugh about the locusts at church. We have them too. They sneak back for seconds and thirds. My locusts have all left home but I can still remember that they took some feeding. They get a meal or two on shift now so they still don’t realise how much it takes to feed themselves.🤗

Flood photos on line show how bad it is up here.

IVEgottheDECAF · 11/08/2019 07:40

Morning all

I have painting i should do too, dining end of kitchen diner is grim thanks to dc3+4 flinging both food and craft stuff everywhere. I bought one of those Paint Pro things off the shopping channels that you can apparently paint a room with in 20 min but i havent got it out yet Blush

Lisette1940 · 11/08/2019 08:17

The thing I hate about painting is the number of coats and the wait in-between for drying. Finished second coats and door touch up. Good luck with your job I've

IVEgottheDECAF · 11/08/2019 08:39

The thing i hate about painting is cleaning all the stuff afterwards!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/08/2019 08:46

I've same!!

Fed cats
"walked" nelly
Load washing done, dry and put away
Faffed on internet/Pinterest/alphabetty

I was awake at 3 with a bloody song going around in my head stopping me go back to sleep(becoming the norm)fed up of being so damn tired but not able to go back to sleep.my eyes are really soreSad

IVEgottheDECAF · 11/08/2019 08:54

What song zoo?

foxessocks · 11/08/2019 08:57

I don't do painting. That's dh job, I can't stand it , I am too impatient!!

Oh no zoo that's so frustrating when you can't sleepSad don't forget, as I told dd just now, Sunday is a day of rest! (Dd looked at me like I was crazy and asked what time we were going out!)

I haven't got out of bed yet. Yesterday I did a whole day long cookery course that I'd got for my birthday which was so much fun but it wore me out! It was a long drive too and then I had to pick the dc up because dh had been studying all day so we didn't all get home and sorted until the evening and I'd been out since 8am.

I do need to go out today though to give dh peace and quiet to carry on...oh I'm looking forward to this being over!

Hope everyone okaySmile

TooStressyTooMessy · 11/08/2019 16:47

Hi all,

Still v hot here but thankfully less hot than yesterday. Kids bickering a LOT. Why Angry? DD1 annoyed at having to share a bed with DD2 despite us explaining that is the way with hotel rooms and perhaps she should be grateful Hmm.

Anyway, just getting ready for dinner now. Have done a fair bit of holiday laundry with travel wash. What a slow process!

Bower, how stressful for everyone with the flooding Sad.

foxes, how long does your DH have left of his course?

That would be really impressive Ive to paint a room in 20 mins. I agree though it is the clearing up that is the worst bit.

I also need to know the song zoo!

Right, must get on and get DD1 to get a shower. We try to do the holiday thing of swim etc in day then showers and rest than dinner and alcohol / soft drinks for kids!

Thankfully managed to keep DDs in the indoor pool bit for the hottest part of the day today.

Big wing flaps to all. I’ll do the launch pad next as it has been tricky to get my phone to go onto MN today.

Okay so zone 3: bathroom and one other room which is a home office in my case.

Need to do meal plan now.

Bowerbird5 · 11/08/2019 19:48

Toostressy. Hope you’re enjoying your holiday.
Yes, lots of people worried in case the biggest river goes as that means flooding houses again. Lots of roads still impassable and local big event cancelled for safety reasons due to flooding , mud etc.

I’ve I think you should get DH on the end of that due to you being so near the big event. Likewise hate cleaning brushes. I usually wrap them in cling film until I’ve finished.

Zoo what is alphabetty?

Felt sick all day so not much flying.
Fed cat several times and she has been up for lots of cuddles.
Fed chicken
Swept kitchen floor.
Washed up a dish left soaking last night and mug. Not eating means less work🤭

Feeling a bit hungry but trying not to eat to kill bug or whatever this is.
Lisette yes keeping up fluids thanks for reminder. I am having peppermint tea and honey. I usually have lemon and ginger but I haven’t any at the moment. I did eat a piece of ginger though. I haven’t even got fresh as DD makes fresh ginger tea.

Laputa hope you are ok.

Enjoyed watching Bridget Jones last night. Fell asleep watching Poirot today.

Bowerbird5 · 11/08/2019 19:50

My other room will be the dining room I haven’t finished yet. Just some sorting and dust wine and computer desk. Floor has been vacuumed.

LivingInLaputa · 11/08/2019 20:50

Tough day with my parents here Hmm I was brave though and was actually assertive with them so that’s probably my biggest Ta Da in months! They kept pointing out the spelling mistakes in the therapists’ info they gave us for the Caglets, and I in turn pointed out that 1. DD’s therapist is dyslexic too and 2. Pointing stuff like that out in front of my newly diagnosed dyslexic daughter is actually pretty horrible. They don’t do this stuff to be mean - they are generally very well meaning people, but intellectual snobs with little social awareness around it, and they laughed it off at first until they saw by my face that I REALLY meant it 😡😡😡

We have dragged stuff out of the loft to sort out. With only having one room downstairs it feels decimated!

Will attack with vigour tomorrow when DH goes back to work.
