Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

Laputa sorry to hear that you are struggling, I hope it settles down for you.

Dd2 came in at 4, I couldn't get back to sleep because I knew I hadn't done my usual stuff yesterday so I'm up. Watching tv with a coffee before I start attacking yesterday's mess (wish I would've just spent half an hour last night doing it now!) I think I'm going to try and do 15 mins on each room today to try and get a little bit of order back, then hoover through . MIL is popping first thing (she isn't judgy about mess so I don't feel awkward when she visits) and dd1 has yet another dress rehearsal but I have no other plans today. What's everyone else up to today ?

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/08/2019 06:31

tidy whats everyone else up to survivingGrin

foxessocks · 21/08/2019 07:21

zoo Grin hope you're okay this morning, sleep better?

Tidy I do the 15 minutes on each room sometimes, it does help. I'm still in the middle of a big clear out / clean that I do every now and then where everything gets worse before it gets better!!
First today though I need to take the car to the garage for its MOT then me and the kids will get the bus home again, maybe stop off at the park.

Need to get up now and sort breakfast but it feels chilly Shock

TooStressyTooMessy · 21/08/2019 08:04

Morning all. Hope MOT goes ok foxes!

I’m working today so not expecting much flying until later. I do need to try to buy tap shoes though, for me!!! Dancing people, I was going to just try to find some second hand ones off eBay or cheap ones on Amazon as I don’t even know if I’ll like it. Not many second hand ones around in my size so it probably doesn’t matter what I get for a first pair does it? Don’t want to spend a fortune.

zoo Grin.

Stressy - my dance teachers have one or two spare pairs which new people sometimes borrow to try, they also have a secondhand noticeboard but usually its all child sized stuff. I bought my tap shoes in a dance shop, they had a range of cheap to expensive and mine are at the cheap end (think they were about £20) but are fine, I've been using them for several years now. I wanted to try before buying as I have very wide feet. It is possible to try it in trainers especially right at the start but they really aren't great, far too grippy. I forgot my tap shoes once last term and it was so hard in trainers.

LivingInLaputa · 21/08/2019 09:15

Lisette it’s fibromyalgia that is flaring up (also have ME and something called PoTS) so mainly muscle pain although joints are pretty bad too at the moment. So done with it

Lisette1940 · 21/08/2019 09:31

I've heard of all three conditions 😔 very sorry you are going through all that Laputa. Hoping for some let up for you.

LivingInLaputa · 21/08/2019 09:51
Thanks
ChicCroissant · 21/08/2019 10:00

If anyone needs tap shoes or ballet shoes, message me the sizes just in case we have some here, especially for children! They might be a bit battered but I suspect we still have some lying around, I can have a look. Same story with children's leotards actually Blush and cycle-length shorts. Even for dress-up purposes. Please. Ours has just changed the uniform again Angry

Have been doing some ironing, and DD slept in a bit this morning so did another load. Still plenty to go, but I'm making a dent in it (finally!). We only have one main room (lounge/diner) and it is a little overcrowded with the ironing board, clothes and other stuff we are sorting through at the moment so need to make a difference on that as well. We have far.too.much. stuff in the loft.

Have done some ironing this morning.

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/08/2019 10:22

Good point, I have a couple of pairs of DD's old tap shoes but they are small (size 1 and 2 IIRC - not at home at the moment).

TooStressyTooMessy · 21/08/2019 12:32

Ah thanks Chic and Expletive. Kids I am sorted for but I need an adult size 5 pair for me.

Yes, getting secondhand stuff for kids is good at our dance school but not so much for adults.

ChicCroissant · 21/08/2019 18:47

I'll have a look and see what we have, DD will have her feet measured at the end of the week so we may need to size up!

TooStressyTooMessy · 21/08/2019 21:09

Thanks Chic!

We are going school shoe shopping tomorrow Confused. First stop is to have feet measured as they may actually not need much at all. On the other hand of course their feet may have grown over the summer! I have made a list of where we need to go in the hope of minimising the stress!

Sorry to hear you are still feeling rubbish Laputa.

Cracked tooth. Filling on Monday. If deep enough crack then root canal. But hopefully just filling.

Wing flaps to all, being careful with my beak til Monday.

LivingInLaputa · 22/08/2019 00:24

Oh no lisette! :(

Still can’t bloody sleep. Fucksake. Scuse my language. 🤬

I did pair a crapload of socks this morning, and renewed my library books. Finished the two art cards I started last night. Read a bit. In short doses. It’s very long and wordy for a book aimed at people with ADHD :o

Also I achieved something, I listened to a podcast for the first time ever! I’ve always had a mental block about them due to my concentration issues but I couldn’t sleep and thought sod it I can keep resting but learn something. Anyone listen to podcasts here? I’d love recommendations! Anything about decluttering for example...

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2019 05:59

Laputa dd1 listens to deliciously ella.she was very impressed by one about managing periods.
Food medic is another

Been awake since 2.buildwrscoming today to put steel rods in brickwork to try halt subsidence cracks.ds is not happy about a) strangers b)noise.could be a two day job.i may need emergency chocolate supplies!!

Look zoo had fab trip to local amusent park.ahe was grouped up with three girls all in her form group.one she's already attaching herself to, another was friend that girl.kast one had no one talking to her yesterday so lil zoo asked her to join them❤️it's more of a park with amusements added than say Alton towers etc so they were grouped off and let loose with instructions where to meet up for lunch/end of day plus if any problems .had a go on her first rollercoaster.not big one but she still scream the whole time and had jelly legs afterGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2019 07:49

Walk cat(other one has finally accepted harness and sat terrified on doorstep watch her sister prowl the garden)
Scrub kitchen surfaces as scoutcat is NOT impressed by them entering HIS domain and decided to march all over said surfaces in protest.he knows what he's doing as gives me evil look and full eye contact when I tell him off and blatantly carries on!!
Wash up
Sweep living room floor
Sweep kitchen floor

Lil zoo pack up made
Wash up breakfast stuff
Beds made
S+s bathroom

We are now ready for builders to come....

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/08/2019 09:53

Morning all. I don’t really understand how podcasts work Blush so can’t recommend any, sorry.

I am annoyed with myself as I have faffed about for 2 hours this morning and am now 2 hours behind where I wanted to be. Ideally should have been at the shoe shop by now. We are all still in PJs so now will probably get there when it is super busy. Ugh.

ExpletiveDelighted · 22/08/2019 09:58

I listen to podcasts a bit, quite often just have them on for background noise at work (I'm on my own at a computer most of the day). We don't have wifi so I have to listen through my laptop and I mainly just use the BBC ones, Radio 4 and 5Live. I listen to them on my phone at other times. As well as BBC ones I dip in and out of The Anxiety Guy, which is an anxiety help channel.

Tidyhomewannabe · 22/08/2019 10:08

Listelle I hope your tooth isn't too sore !

Laputa I've tried podcasts but couldn't concentrate on them, maybe I should give them another go.....

Zoo good luck with the builders today, I hope ds isn't too distressed by it all ! I must say I don't like it when we have to have workers inside the house .

Dd1 is getting ready to go to her friends house, ds & dd2 both have their friends round so I should be able to potter around this morning Smile everywhere is a mess, yesterday I had a temperature which is probably why I woke up so early, me and dd2 have a bit of a cold so we spent the day snuggling in between dropping dd1 to dancing . We're both feeling better today so hopefully it'll clear as quickly as it came on .

Tada
Everyone is washed & ready/getting ready
Breakfast pots sorted
Cream put in dd2 (she has molluscum (sp?) doctors said 18 months to clear up but it's spread all over , did a lot of research and bought molludab,lm hoping it clears it)
Coffee is being drank Brew

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/08/2019 10:31

Oh Lisette, I missed that about your tooth Flowers. That must be really frustrating for you and DD2 Tidy, hopefully the cream will help.

LivingInLaputa · 22/08/2019 10:51

They just seem to be people talking about particular things. Some people listen to them while doing other stuff like ironing or exercising or whatever but there’s no way I could! I will only be listening when I’m literally lying in bed with my eyes closed.

Just got the Tesco delivery in. First time since they’ve officially gone bagless. My hands are killing now. Moving individual items is a lot harder on my wrists/fingers than carrying a few bags. Luckily DH usually does it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2019 11:00

Lisette I missed the tooth also...Flowershope it's an easy cheap and non traumatic fix.are you good with dentists

Tidyhomewannabe · 22/08/2019 11:15

Fingers crossed too , she caught it straight after the chicken pox , it's been a few months now and it seems like there's a new one appearing every few days, even if they don't go and it just controls the spread that'll be good , some of the spots are bothering her because her clothes are rubbing on them and making them sore .

Zoo dd1 is only going into year 8 but doesn't handle exams very well and is already stressing about what she grades she needs to got to uni Confused dreading gcse year!! How does your dd feel about it ?

Ta da

Dd1 dropped off at her friends
Beds made
Snack given to kids

I've hope you're ok?

I'll probably keep putting my tada lists on regularly today just to keep me motivated, I hope no one minds seeing my boring lists Halo
