Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.
**

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

Well the big news of today is that I managed to drag Chic Junior out of the house. The bad news was that leaving it until the last day of the 25% off at Sainsburys meant there was nothing in her size, not even tights Grin It's set the tone for the week though as we have some other things planned.

I briefly considered downloading the Organised Mum team app today, but none of my devices will run it techno dinosaur Wish Flylady had an android app, back to Cozi for me then.

Somebody jab me with the pointy stick, I simply can't motivate myself at the minute!

Honu · 19/08/2019 16:56

Chic I have had an android app called Flyhelper on my phone for the past couple of years - it was free and very good. I don't know if it's still around now but can recommend it.

TooStressyTooMessy · 19/08/2019 20:50

I think you have to be either lucky or exceptionally organised to benefit from the Sainsbury’s 25% off Chic.

Belated pointy stick for you ——————>

Ta da:-
Pretty much finished unpacking Smile
DDs ready for bed
We have all eaten and I am currently decluttering an ice cream from the freezer

To do:-
Get DDs to bed
Prep for their activity tomorrow
Bloody holiday laundry continues
Ideally physio exercises- must at least do some
Collapse

Big wing flaps to Honu and everyone else.

Well it’s taken me like a week but I am pleased to announce I HAVE CAUGHT UP WITH THE THREAD. ✊🥳

Too tired to add anything useful so I’ll just say a big hello and weary wingflaps to all.

foxessocks · 20/08/2019 07:13

toostressy I actually did get a three pack of leggings for dd in the sale - £2!! But my trick was I didn't even know there was a sale on just happened to need some leggings for her and couldn't understand why they'd charged me so little! If I try and get a bargain at something like that I never do!

Laputa I also caught up on the the thread but now I've forgotten everything again 🤦glad to "see" you though!

Yesterday I chucked all my routines out of the window and did a huge toy sort out, continued from the day before. Didn't actually get rid of much but ds bedroom looks very tidy now and downstairs better as well. Problem is I abandoned everything else so the laundry is still in the machine, another load waiting to be put away , bathroom a complete mess etc etc...

I'm working today but I'm going to do a few bits when I need to get up and stretch my legs! And the dc will be at the grandparents so at least they can't get stuff back out again (ds yesterday found the bag of books we'd decided to give away and started getting them all back out again Hmm)

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/08/2019 07:39

So I bit the anti procrastination bullet and filled three ballet dance class instructors that are within a manageable distance enquiring about beginner ballet for lil zoo

She had a great time at summer school yesterday, made a friend who is actually in her class!!
They decorated bags, lanyards, masks and t shirts.did big tour of school and various other little things!today they are doing drama based stuff and tomorrow are required wear t shirts they decorated to a park which has some rides etc within our county.when dd2 did it there was one coach went but it has grown bigger year on year and 3 are going this time around, taking about half the year group!!

Tada
Wash on
Fed cats
Littertray and bins
Sorted couple bags random crap
Located dance schools in area and emailed
Wiped surfaces in kitchen
S+s bathroom

About do breakfast
(We need leave in hour get lil zoo to summer school)

Wellbeing at community cafe today.i need Badger dd2 to come.shes very down, worryingly so,and hasn't really seen anyone this holidaySadcouple of meet ups fell thru, she was due to go out Wednesday and friends backed out as not done her summer homework and mum's on her as they away next week then back to school week after so can't go.another offer of sleep over has come to nothing.what with everything going on here it feels she's become very isolated and dare I say it depressed...any ideas?

TooStressyTooMessy · 20/08/2019 12:31

Hi Laputa Smile.

Glad to hear someone benefited from the 25% off then foxes Smile.

Great anti-procrastination zoo re ballet. Aww your poor DD2. I hate the long summer holidays; I think some kids really struggle in them for lots of reasons. Did she go to community cafe with you?

Ta da:-
DCs at an activity so I have got as much done as possible
FINALLY on top of the laundry
Big food shop
Got some leggings for DD1 although she’ll need to try them on and a school top that DD2 needed
Big food shop done and put away
Got some little sun creams for school bags
Midway through cleaning and organising freezer.

Had hopes to tidy the rest of the house but I think that’s unlikely

To do:-
MUST order name labels. Really have to do this today
As many physio exercises as possible
Get swim stuff ready and prep quick tea

To those saying about the sainsbury's 25% off. Have you tried doing in through argos online?

LivingInLaputa · 20/08/2019 13:26

Oh Ive that’s an interesting idea, as we have an Argos gift card and a love2shop voucher to use up 🧐

Went to yoga this morning (oddly it’s a much more gentle class than the “gentle yoga” class on Thursdays, WTF?) and my friend had some anxiety issues so I ended up having lunch and chat with her after.

Well done for emailing ballet people zoo DD1 only started ballet a couple of years ago and she’s a lot older than most of the girls in her class, the school we chose is fairly strict on them not skipping grades as you need to learn all the exercises for each exam and then retain them for later grades. But obviously being older she is ready for exams sooner etc. She’s perfectly happy there, the only thing that bugs her sometimes is behaviour of some of the younger ones! But that could happen anywhere really.

Been trying to anti procrastinate here too, I’m in a group where you trade art cards and I was behind on mailing them out from last week and one even from a couple of weeks earlier where I said I’d make a duplicate as two people wanted the same one. But I got them all done and immediately after the trading session (everyone uploads their creations on Mondays) I actually packaged and addressed them all. So I’m all caught up. I’m attaching a picture of the cards I made last week. It’s so much fun. DH and DD1 are doing them too! The individual card is one she made using paint drips.

Sitting around now as quite tired. Definitely been in flare up mode, since the trip down to the assessment centre I think. Tiresome. I hate it, it’s really frustrating when I’ve made so much progress with my fitness and at times like this it feels like it’s all been for nothing!

LivingInLaputa · 20/08/2019 13:28

Also we have done a lot of decluttering the last few days. I forgot I’ve not been posting and so haven’t mentioned it!
DSD needed some boxes to repack all her stuff (although her friend has done a 180 on her and backed out of the house share 😡 so she may be staying a bit longer!) so we sorted some of our boxes of random crap, also went through all the bigger Caglets’ clothes, passed on some small baby stuff to a pregnant friend etc. Lots of little things done.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/08/2019 18:59

Laputa very productive thenStarand those cards are fab!!

One school has email me back.they want to assess her/taster session in grade 2 as she has done bit open ballet(not really learned any technique tho so we going to check out grade one stuff on u tube and cram a bit before assessment!!)grade 2 is a saturdayornjng,or Thursday night.we opt Thursday night as she wants continue the open ballet class in Saturdays as it's such fun(but lacks technique and terminology she craves)if she decides to go there will have to wear uniform(open ballets super relaxed, hair anyhow and leggings and t shirts).logistics will need adaption for us all as it's an hour walk so early teas and dd2 taking homework to do as we can wait there for her to come out...

TooStressyTooMessy · 20/08/2019 21:14

That sounds promising about the ballet zoo. Very productive day Laputa, sorry to hear about your DSD being let down.

Never realised you could do it through Argos Ive, thanks for the info!

Great news about ballet zoo, I really hope she enjoys it !

I feel like I've only just survived today ! Dd2 has been perfecting her tantrums , dd1 had dance rehearsal again and ds had football practice! Everyone is clean , fed and in their pjs so once they are in bed I am celebrating keeping them all alive and getting them to their things on time with a very large gin !Wine

Lisette1940 · 20/08/2019 22:23

That's great about the ballet zoo

It's a bit chaotic chez Lisette. Work changes, office move, meeting with new line manager - I'm not good with change. Ds back to school tomorrow but I've an emergency dental appointment at 4pm as filled tooth giving trouble. Must get my hearing aids retubed and new moulds done plus right aid needs check up but tooth first.

I'm like the six million dollar woman - we can rebuild her...(for those of you as ancient as me)

I hope I won't need a crown.

Lisette1940 · 20/08/2019 22:25

Ah, it was the bionic woman.

Bowerbird5 · 20/08/2019 22:41

Good for you Tidy it is hard work juggling everything.

zoo let me know if you need a leotard I might be able to help you out there as I think there are some of DDs about. Whether size will be right or not I don’t know. Ask me before you buy one though. I said to DD she should take it up again when she gets back. She was very graceful. I can’t remember what grade she was when she left. She had one more trophy but didn’t want to go any more and I was distracted with a very ill niece and a sister about to collapse with exhaustion.

Laputa lovely to her from you. It is great to be creative isn’t it.

So today I have finished painting the chest of drawers but no paper yet for the fronts.
Cleaned out and washed all my cake decorating box. It is all air drying overnight.
DH and I went on the hunt for some stones. Went to B&Q didn’t have any 10mm. So went to the Range and got 3x£10 of pea stones. Yeah. Their trellis was just what I wanted but not at £25 for about 6x2!
Had lunch very late at 3pm. Then watched a film as I sorted some stuff I found in the car.
Later started the Alpine garden. Got half way but eaten by midges.so do the rest tomorrow. DH has been doing so much weeding I asked him if he was putting the house on the market!
I didn’t tackle the bedroom and I promised myself I would soooo tomorrow...
I have to be up earlier as the electrician is coming to fix the water tank. We’ve had no hot water for days. It was Luke warm when DH was away and I thought he had turned the thermostat down. Needs a new ? So car needs a new gear box. What is the third thing going to be?
I’m missing the fact that I haven’t been away on holiday. I should have gone up to sisters. I am going with church people at the weekend and due to car I am getting a lift. I just would have liked a few days somewhere different, to explore.

Bowerbird5 · 20/08/2019 22:44

I’m more ancient Lisette. That means my great nephew and nieces will be back too. I think all my nieces and nephews have left school now maybe one left.

Lisette1940 · 21/08/2019 00:14

I put silicone around the shower surround and tray and the basin. Husband did the ironing

LivingInLaputa · 21/08/2019 00:18

Aww thanks zoo I traded loads this week. Made a couple of cards this evening as I couldn’t sleep. SO annoying, toddler dozed off early (having not napped) so I got her into the cot at 7 and still haven’t managed to drop off. Ended up going back downstairs for painkillers and stayed there with DH and DD1.

Meds aren’t touching the pain really. FML. Luckily I don’t have plans for tomorrow.

Lisette1940 · 21/08/2019 00:24

Laputa do you mind if I ask what the flare up is? Is it your back? Sorry to hear you're in pain.
