Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.
**

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

Tidy Flowers. Glad the Flylady system is helping give some control. Lovely to hear about all dance stuff.

zoo, I am starting adult tap dance lessons in September! Never worn tap shoes in my life. She is definitely not too old Smile. I will say though that the class you find is important. I started ballet at 9, was in a class of mainly 5 ish year olds and the age gap was just too much and I quit. I think if you could find a class with different ages or older kids in it that would be best. There are lots of dance clubs these days with older beginners classes.

Thanks for all well wishes. We are back from holiday and preparing now to leave my in-laws’ house. Then the food shopping, tackling of Mt Washmore and dealing with post-holiday comedown will begin Confused.

Also lovely to hear about someone else stating adult dance lessons Expletive Smile.

I love hearing about all extra curricular activities. Totally agree it is not so much about what you do but the skills and extra experiences they give you.

Sorry to hear about your loved ones tidy 💐

I was just reading about the US mezzo soprano Joyce Didonato. A total late bloomer. Had to rebuild her voice from the age of 26-29 and was roughly 6 years behind everyone else getting roles. Was once told in an audition that she had nothing to offer the art. Watched her in the Proms on TV the other day. #nevertoolate

Lisette1940 · 17/08/2019 11:52

Mind you if someone told me at an opera audition that I'd nothing to offer the art, they'd be right 🤣

Bathroom cleaned

lunch eaten.

supper tonight DH has bought sweet and sour from M&S

ChicCroissant · 17/08/2019 15:34

I haven't caught up with the personals properly, but Tidy I'm sorry to hear about your relatives.

Never too late to dance, although an open or beginners class would be best - if she tries a grade class with people who have already been doing it for years tap in particular is hard to pick up. Find the right class and go for it!

I am feeling quite intentional at the moment, but it's all plans and no action unfortunately! We've had a very chilled week and it's been lovely, DH is back now. Still swamped with clean washing that needs ironing and/or putting away.

Trying to plan the rest of the holidays out, and any bits we need to get for school (shoes, another bag, blouses) as we'll be away for the last weekend - but we will have a few days when we get back but I'm hoping to have those for fun and not serious shopping!

Catch you later!

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/08/2019 21:42

Hello all, have done a huge amount of laundry and a bit of unpacking.

Have had enough now so a few more things to do then bed! Not looking forward to getting DD2 up for her activity in the morning as it will be a shock to the system!

Woke up early but don’t want to get up yet. The recycling is going well. One more coat today.
More gardening. We weeded the new bed so need to put membrane down and the shillings maybe get the path done if it stays dry.

IVEgottheDECAF · 18/08/2019 10:50

Ok im coming over here to sulk. So many of my antenatal thread have had babies or are going in to labour.

Someone entertain me please ....

Lisette1940 · 18/08/2019 11:34

I can give you virtual Wine. Not sure how entertaining I am but this morning I've baked two cakes. We have guests coming at 2.30. I'm in a work funk. Sounds like you are in a baby funk. What about eating really cold ice-cream? Would that shift baby?

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/08/2019 13:00

Sounds as if you are making good progress Bower and great cake making Lisette! Hope all goes ok with guests.

Welcome back toostressy!

Sorry I'm a bit behind the thread!

Having one of those days today where I intended to clean and tidy EVERYTHING but in reality I've probably made more mess Confused you know where you get stuck on just one cupboard and it just unearths more and more stuff...

ChicCroissant · 18/08/2019 14:25

I'VE have you tried the usual suggestions of curry and pineapple (not together although if that is your craving go for it)? Walking around or up and down stairs is not an option for you unfortunately!

foxes I know exactly what you mean. We are ploughing through a load of cd's & videos from the loft, seeing some lovely family stuff again but it is taking up a lot of space in our one main room downstairs. My inactivity isn't helping, although one of the videos unearthed was me, many years ago, and it is like looking at another person - what happened to that person?! I need to get some of that person back again, she must be in there somewhere!

Weather a bit variable here today, have been food shopping. Still behind on thread and still swamped with clean laundry, will attempt to shoehorn it all into wardrobes and drawers today too many clothes

Have a lovely Sunday, everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2019 18:16

I've if you have any strength left you can help me bury "d"p somewhere or come watch me do it ...

Stressy it stresscat now pleased to see you all or indignantly ignoring you for leaving??Grin

Did bit more school shop with "d"p yesterday.ended in a distaster after he cracked.mild words were said.he stomp to bed and slid out without saying goodbye in middle of night which he has been told so many times distressed D's who was already very upset with his behaviour from the day(they all were)
He sent me a text at 130am(glad had turned off notifications )once home saying thought we were a upset with him so best leave.can pop over tomorrow if allowed to accompany us drop lil zoo at secondary school summer club
I lost my temper and gave both barrels of what responsibility and being accountable for actions/apologizing as an adult means.he has not text me back and I am last caring.ive never seen him get so strung out nor zoolets so stressed by it which he was oblivious to
Walked into town today(45mins each way) got trainers and bag at tk maxx for dd2.shes beside herself to have some branded stuff but has worked so hard at school last year and was an absolute star trying keep D's calmer in back car when things got unpleasant (was a self calming tactic too primarily.a funny questions game on her phone) and trying to her lil zoo too.they all deserved so much betterSad

Few other bits got too(incl lil zoo shoes)

Still need trousers/shirts for dd2.shes to tall/big for schoolwear now(5ft7 and size 14) so need broaden search.matalan had nothing, tried asda.next in desperation yielded nothing a teen be seen dead in.thinking might try Tesco at some point(need more funds first)

Sorry to keep ranting all the time.as you were...

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/08/2019 21:45

zoo, cat is being super affectionate Grin. I suspect tomorrow she will be back to her usual lovely grumpy self but for today she is being cute and cuddly Smile. She has had a special lunch and tea to celebrate being back home and DDs have sprayed her toys with catnip spray.

Also glad to hear you lost your temper at DP.

Chic and foxes, I have done loads of laundry and unpacking today but house still has stuff everywhere Confused. Thankfully DH sat with the girls (and the cat Grin) watching a film this evening letting me carry on getting stuff unpacked. I was quite happy with this as was watching Netflix on my phone at the same time Grin.

Big wing flaps to everyone.

Our cat was grumpy last night as I brushed her tatty bits and cut her claws. She didn’t come near me after that but stretched out on DH s chest and went to sleep.

I’ve I sympathise but try making the most of your time. Put you feet up with a new magazine. Watch a favourite film etc.

Zoo good for you re DP.

toostressy yeah how come it is always up to the women to pack and then unpack and do all the washing ,ironing and my pet hate putting away all the clothes from holiday.

About to get up.need to put washing away and tidy half of boudoir the other half just needs a dust.
Painting chest of drawers today. Need final coat on top and four drawers to paint edges today.

Had gammon last night so no cooking today as several salads to have with it.
Hoping DH will help with a few chores. Shower tray, bathroom floor, kitchen floor. Vacuum then I can sort and declutter this afternoon.

Tidyhomewannabe · 19/08/2019 09:23

Zoo sorry 'd'p is being an arse Sad

Too I've never thought about the unpacking but I always do ours aswell , why is that ??

Ive it's the only time I'll wish you pain - really hope baby makes an appearance soon Smile

Bower sounds like you've got lots of plans today - good luck!

We got back from my Mums late last night, she was well enough for the kids to stay over so it was lovely for the kids to spend time with her. OH will be going straight to the hospice after work to spend some time with him so I'll be flying solo with the kiddies today. Extra dance rehearsals mean I'll be in and out of the house today so if I can unpack and keep everyone clean and fed , anything else will be a bonus Grin

Ta da
Everyone's up and had breakfast
Washer is on

The house definitely felt a little more organised when I came home last night which made me feel a little less anxious about it all , so I'll be battling on with the cleaning and decluttering this week when I can .

Need start planning some school work for D's whilst we still in limbo.have ASD initial assessment next Thursday

Got builder fixing some steel struts into cement to support subsidence on thursday.thats going to be challenging as drilling etc with take D's over the edge on noise and invading his safe space levels

No word from dp.not an apology, nor any texts to the kids.didnt offer lil zoo good luck for today.nada.fucking idiotAngryI've absolutely fucking nothing to say til he makes attempts mend bridges and if he can't be bothered to do that he's not worth fussing about!

S&S
Beds made
Sorted some bits out that I need to return to the shop when I drop dd1 off at dance

I'm on a go slow today, really could do with getting a move on but struggling for motivation! Going to set a time for 15 mins , get the breakfast pots cleared, hang the washing out, organise what is needed for dress rehearsal later and look at what we could have for dinner .
