Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

I make indestructible sacks of waters. They do not break without intervention.

Lisette1940 · 16/08/2019 09:20

Sounds a bit like musical chairs. At least school is looming.

Zoo who is nelly? I should know but I've got it in my head that she's a Guinea pig and I know that's unlikely due to the walking. She's a dawg isn't she?

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/08/2019 10:05

Nelly is a 🐈 i think

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2019 11:27

I've is correct Lisette nelly is a cat.a house cat, from completely indoor cat household she's very fearful of outside/has no road sense etc but during hot spell she venture to doorstep to catch a breeze.she now wants go sniff grass but doesn't come when called reliably and bolts when startled so as my gardens not secure enough to release her we have to "to walkies" she prefers after breakfast(6am) as neighbourhoods quiet she hates rain and wind and yowls at me like it's my fault/I should make it stopGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2019 11:29

Here is her ladyship!!Grin

She's gorgeous zoo. I love the photo - many thanks. I'm sorry for suggesting she was a dog Grin she is very much a cat.

Today is dominated by a search for junior swimming goggles before a class at 4.30.

I'm looking at the ironing but I've other stuff to do for work. Dinner is mince something!

Awful weather here in very northern Scotland. I'm cold with layers on.

Looks like you got a lot done ive.

Toostressy enjoy your flight and have a good rest tonight when you get back.

No sign of Goggles but leisure card located so we don't have to pay for a new one of those.

DH bought new goggles so of course we will find the old ones fairly soon!

Tidyhomewannabe · 16/08/2019 19:55

Too yes my dd1 dances, she'll be 13 next month and has been dancing since she was 3. First joined a small local dance school , where everything was very much fun, the teacher and her mum made the costumes. As she got older she wanted to join the local Razzmataz school as well, last January she came to me and said she wanted to join the local performing school that provides all dance and performing styles and is also a college. So she is now only with this school and studies tap, ballet , advanced freestyle and advanced musical theatre. The standard is a lot higher than she was used to but she's come along so much since joining. She was asked to join the competition squad this year and she won her first competition after only having 2 competition lessons, however unfortunately my father in law got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the beginning of the year so I lost a days work (they looked after dd2 whilst I worked) , we managed but financially it was tight, then a few months back my mum has been diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer so I've had to give up work all together, my oh spends the weeknights after work with his dad and supporting his mum , while I travel to my mums at the weekend (she lives about 120 miles away) to spend time with her, so we couldn't commit to the competitive side of dancing and she has had to give that part up for now. It's a shame because all her teachers say she has a true passion for it but you never know, once this heartbreaking year is over , she may be able to return. The dance school have been very supportive and said she is welcome to rejoin the company squad whenever she would like to Smile Dancing is really good for children's confidence levels I think and a great fun way to stay fit !!
My ds plays in 2 football teams and so far my dd2 doesn't do any clubs, but that will change over the next year and I will have to learn how to be in 3 places at once .............

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 20:43

I'm sorry about your mum and FIL Tidy, that all sounds very hard. My DD (also 13) gave up dance last year, she never took it all that seriously and prefers singing and acting (she's been in a musical theatre group for years but parking that for now too although she will still do holiday workshops from time to time plus singing lessons). Swimming has taken over as her main hobby now (4+ times a week), I also have a DS who is in two football teams, its all go, but lovely to be on summer break now.

Well, what a wet day. My day off work, took DS into nearest big town for a couple of hours, then home, cleaned litter trays, did washing, general tidying. DH is working late and DS has gone out so DD and I have just been to the local pub who do a very tasty and very reasonably priced carvery, just the thing in this weather.

Oh and finally got round to digging out ancient paperwork and putting in a PPI claim, cutting it a but fine, but done now.

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2019 21:23

tidyFlowersso sorry about poorly family members

Lil zoo has developed a major love of dance.at 11 is she too old to attend beginners classes for ballet/tap now??she began an open ballet class during term time just before xmas.its very relaxed -wear what like,no barre etc dance with some ballet moves and the teachers very easy going and she ADORES it.have we left it too late?

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2019 21:26

DS opt try out his travel size battleships he got as a treat the other day.best £2.99 I've spent in a while.he LOVED IT and was great to see him engaging and enjoying himself for a bit❤️

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/08/2019 23:36

Zoo - I took up ballet and tap in my late 40s, so no, it's not too late! Seriously though, it's a good time of year to contact any local dance schools and see what they suggest, with term starting soon maybe DD could do a taster class or two. That's lovely about DS Smile.

Tidyhomewannabe · 17/08/2019 07:41

Thanks everyone, it is a tough time but there's nothing we can do to change it, so we make the best of the time we have left with them. I think it's probably why I came back to flylady because it gives you a sense of control back.

Ex once they get to 11/12 they start to realise what they're passionate about so some hobby's fall but the ones they keep they truly enjoy. I don't mind what hobby any of the kids do as they do something, I personally think it's really good for confidence, learning to work alongside other people, how to take directions from others and also a good work ethic.

Zoo definitely not too late, my dd didn't start ballet until she was 11 Smile
