Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Oh Cag Flowers.

Shadycorner · 03/06/2019 19:13

Oh that's crap Cag and so hard for your DH, especially with him being so sports minded.

Hope headache went away Lisette and you feel better

Wow mega list as ever Zoo! Especially considering you are tired!

I've if that's slacking then I'm the Pope! Grin
Glad evening primrose working for you Foxes
Take it steady both of you! Extra testing when littlies transitioning from nap time!

Ha Toostressy! You are so organised your DC were able to eat tomorrow's snacks today! Grin Star

I'm ashamed to say I've served supper, eaten it with DD and DH, and come upstairs to bed. Feel wiped out this evening (and a bit dizzy/tired) for some unknown reason. Rather pitiful performance on my part! Blush

Just watched the news. Loathe Trump but do not envy Melania having to fly about in that chopper. Must play havoc with the ham sandwiches! Think I would have barfed on Her Maj's shoes Envy

Waves to Honu Bower Expletive Mog Cordelia and all newcomers!

foxessocks · 03/06/2019 19:18

Sorry cag that sucks.

Zoo glad there is some peace in your house for a while anyway! At least where your dd is concerned!

I have watched all of those apart from the most recent one on Netflix someone mentioned (can't scroll back on my phone very well) . I liked them all. I'd definitely recommend outnumbered it's great! My dd reminds me a bit of Karen actually (I remember watching it pre kids and thinking she was a bit much and kids weren't really like that then dd came along!) Just her ability to ask very difficult questions all the time and usually at bad moments, constant need to talk and the really great but crazy imaginary games she comes up with Grin

Which reminds me I almost had to have the where do babies come from chat with her this morning Shock I have a book somewhere at five year old level called mummy laid an egg which I'll have to dig out I think!

foxessocks · 03/06/2019 19:23

At dinner time today dh said ds had verbal diarrhea, dd pipes up "can I have some purple diarrhea please daddy?"

Ds was putting potatoes under his chin to see if he likes them (someone showed him the buttercup under your chin means you like butter thing!)

Needless to say not a lot of dinner was actually consumed...(tonight was gammon in the slow cooker, cauliflower cheese and mash sweet potato, I'd highly recommend slow cooked gammon!)

Wine

Ps sc ds has been transitioning from naps for what feels like forever!! And don't worry about disappearing off to bed, sometimes you just need some time on your own to recharge. I often feel that way!

Cagliostro · 03/06/2019 19:29

Thanks all. On the plus side he said DH should start running again, but very gently.

So he said “I won’t do proper running. I’ll just go at [his eldest]’s pace.” 😂😂😂

Lisette1940 · 03/06/2019 19:40

Well that's something CAG.

Shady headache is gone - think it's perimenopause related made worse by glass of red wine yesterday

Will keep a diary to see when it happens in the cycle so I can have some forewarning.

Have just done a quick house tidy. Males out at junior soccer match.

Lisette1940 · 03/06/2019 19:42

Oh Foxes that's so funny Grin. Never thought of holding a spud under my chin.

[Hands I've toast, crackers and ginger ale.]

Forgot to say very well done to your dd Zoo re: weight loss!

Aw at your ds Foxes and the spud under his chin! Smile. And your dd sounds like such a bright spark! Smile

Ah well that's a small positive for your DH at least Cag as long as he takes it steady!

Sadly I can no longer drink more than a glass of red without feeling it the next day either Lisette

DD thankfully a bit happier tonight because no further lessons at school (apart from in one subject) so she had big chunks of time to revise today! Phew!

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/06/2019 20:59

Ah that is a small positive thing then Cag about the runnng.

In case I am not on here early tomorrow zoo best of luck getting scoutcat sorted and at the vets.

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/06/2019 21:01

Oh no I missed that Cordelia, what a stress! I looked at Anne of Green Gables options to watch. I couldn’t find the adaptation you recommend (which sounds great) without paying extra but Anne with an E is on Netflix so was wondering about trying that first. Has anyone seen it?

Callmecordelia · 03/06/2019 21:38

Stressy, I have to confess I didn't like the Netflix Anne, for selfish reasons that probably won't apply to you.

I think it's because I loved the books so much, which are very unrealistic. It's only with adult eyes that I can see that Anne suffered so badly. The image of the orphan rising above her upbringing with delightful imaginative whimsy is seductive and part of a tradition of plucky orphan girls in literature, but it is just very improbable. Anne was starved, beaten, her parents died when she was a few weeks old. She should have had attachment disorder, PTSD and any number of severe psychological problems. In the book she's funny, and loving, a star student and that is skated over - in the Netflix adaptation it isn't.

I read the books as escapism when I was a teenager, and they spoke to the imaginative lonely girl I was. The Netflix adaptation is interesting, but it's not the story I loved. Perhaps it's a better, more truthful, less romantic story. I don't know, I'm afraid I couldn't finish it! Blush

Cagliostro · 03/06/2019 23:40

I don’t know what it says about me that the above makes me want to watch the Netflix version 🤔😳

I am so headachey and also have to resort the packaged up stuff I mentioned this morning because yup, too late for most of it, although that may have been the case even if I’d done it before, but argh. Anyway it’s given me a kick to swap cagletini’s clothes over to the next size so that’s something, although it’s group learning tomorrow and no I didn’t plan, didn’t even do the homework with the Caglets so need to set my alarm now to make sure it’s done in the morning.

Singingcricket · 04/06/2019 04:45

🌼 Launch pad link containing flight plan for Tuesday. Best to read and not download.

🌼 Please note, rather unusually, we are starting in Zone 2 today, with the mission being to clean out one shelf of your pantry.

🌼 Also, I'll be away from thread for large part of the day so apologies for absence. Back tomorrow morning if not before!

Have a good planning day everyone! And remember to keep drinking the clear stuff! Smile

Callmecordelia · 04/06/2019 06:57

I will stop writing essays that have nothing to do with fly lady now!

To do
Get car to garage
Wash filters on vacuum cleaner and pray
Put away washing
Meal plan
Inspired by today's challenge I am going to clear out the fridge and veg storage. I think there might be some fossilised potatoes lurking.
Inspired by Cag, I am going to sort some clothes out.

Have a good day everyone.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/06/2019 08:11

fossilised potatoesGrin

Thanks stressy in waiting room nowhe was super stroppy over the no breakfast situation, but is being very quiet and good in his box

Fledglings step their way through June; yikes we'll be Flying in to summer soon!
Cagliostro · 04/06/2019 08:50

Aww bless him.
Cordelia FWIW there isn’t much that is actually flylady related on the thread sometimes :o essays of all topics welcome!

Cagletini slept six hours straight and then dozed off in bed with me, so I feel a bit better this morning, but annoyed as DH left his tablet up here (was too sore to make it up the stairs to bed) and his alarm was half an hour earlier than mine, I reaaaally miss that extra time! I only set my alarm to make sure I had time to supervise homework.

Struggling so much to get back into “term time” especially as all of us now have sleeping issues and resulting issues waking up, but it needs to be done. Somehow.

I realised that part of the reason I struggled last week though is probably the lack of routine - while it’s nice to have a break from the constant “what must they learn next” (I can totally see why many home educators buy in whole curriculums, but it’s not affordable or practical for mine with their SN) I think actually home ed is pretty much the only thing keeping my self esteem in a vague semblance of existing! As in, I feel pretty useless in all other aspects of life and parenting and it was the one thing I am doing a decent job with. So without that I’m just here for no reason. :( I don’t even have the confidence to set up my tutoring business again since having the baby, and I really need to fix that because clearly we desperately need the money now.

I guess I should have done more planning during the break really to keep my confidence up. I also need to carefully plan what we will do over the summer holidays - it’s important that they keep doing some stuff but we also don’t want to set them apart from their school friends too much so we have to be selective.

Enough moaning sorry, must get up and sort homework. Will need to clear the table too and then plan the lessons properly while DD’s friend is here since I won’t have to be actually teaching then.

IVEgottheDECAF · 04/06/2019 09:10

Sooo sore this morning. Dunno what i have done but spd is awful. Tried to do school run without pain killers which was silly. Need to drag myself to the kitchen and dose up

foxessocks · 04/06/2019 09:26

cag and I've CakeBrewFlowers

Hope all goes well for your lovely cat zoo

I am in toddler tantrum hell and at the end of my tether. Also had to clean poo off the carpet this morning so not the best start to the day.

Cagliostro · 04/06/2019 12:18

Must woman up. Homework done with the Caglets (not managed any other work though) and I’ve emailed a private psychotherapist who specialises in adult ASD/ADHD.

Need to get on with planning lessons

Also arranged a play date for Monday with another home ed family who like board games

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/06/2019 12:33
