Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

DS downstairs panicky.....

Lisette1940 · 02/06/2019 22:53

I think you went to the same covent as me SC 🤣

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/06/2019 23:27

Well, exams looming for my DD too, year 8, all week this week. She seems to have done quite a lot of revision. DS (y10) has had his already and doesn't seem to have done much work these holidays but has got his week planned out. We are trying to do a bit of extra maths and English as often as possible as he is not very strong in either.

As for names, mine is related to my previous ones even though the link might not be obvious unless you are in the know.

Flying wise, hmm, we've been away for the weekend, came back to unpleasantly humid conditions but I have managed two lots of washing, on the line overnight, a lot of weeding (garden waste bin gets emptied tomorrow and I can't bear to not fill it), unpacked, done the weekly food shop and put away, and everything else will have to wait.

ChicCroissant · 02/06/2019 23:33

Back home! Will catch up tomorrow!

Singingcricket · 03/06/2019 06:32

Good morning! Lovely to have so many fledglings in the nest, ready to start the Flying month! Strangely, it looks like we are only back in Zone one for one day (today!) this month so mission may take longer than 15 mins... . From tomorrow we are in the kitchen again.

Glad you are both back safely Chic and Expletive!

Good luck to all Fledgling offspring who have exams currently or shortly! 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Right (groan) lots to do including "work" work today (bigger groan) and it's Monday so it's home bleugh day too! (Thrice groan Grin!)

Had better get on with it!

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

I've glad it's not just us! Foxes are popular at the moment maybe!

Cag 😂 my dh also couldn't find the second sock. And tbf more recently the dr Seuss story fox in socks has become a favourite of dds (I love it but I love tongue twisters, dh not so much!)

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/06/2019 06:58

Ps excuse lurid pink walls,I inherited it from the girls that colour about 9years ago and haven't gotten round to changing it just added black curtains, bedding etc to tone it down but looks like a harlots boudoir

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/06/2019 06:59

Xposts foxes morning!
Hope getting everyone up and running on a school day again isn't hell on earth

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/06/2019 07:24

I woke up at 4 boiling hot despite having a window open, opened it wider and managed to get back to sleep eventually. My eczema has flared up and its awful on hot nights. Hoping we don't have another heatwave this summer.

Singingcricket · 03/06/2019 07:59

I hear you Expletive - horribly humid here - weather hasn't broken as promised overnight. Storms coming at 10 am apparently (here's hoping). I'm useless in the heat. Really do not want a repeat of last summer.

Oh well Zoo if we are doing animal pics Grin... yours is a gorgeous bundle of curled-up fur by the way!

Waves to Foxes and everyone else!

Lisette1940 · 03/06/2019 08:10

PS I wouldn't wish that on anyone Lisette

I thought you were referring to being dropped in Nazi Occupied France then scrolled up to find my post about my convent school 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

To be fair I'd lovely feminist nuns but I think it depends on the order.

Lisette1940 · 03/06/2019 08:14

Can we have a cannister of zoo's calming vibes in the naughty corner, please?

Trying to avoid difficult schoolgate Mum this morning. She's on a rant about a to do between the teacher and her - teacher's not the problem I think and while I do sympathise with the mum's predicament I'm just not in the right place this morning.

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/06/2019 08:23

After an hour of everyone getting in each others way, muttering at each other and general Monday morning-ness they have all gone and I am home alone Smile. I will be going to work in a bit but am starting and finishing later than usual today.

Zoo - my eczema is mainly on my hands, it is up my arms too at the moment but it's only the hands that bother me in the night. After a particularly bad run with it about three years ago I had patch testing, found I was allergic to nickel, stopped wearing a cheapo "silver" ring I had acquired in the 1980s and had a long spell of freedom from it. It flared up again badly about a month ago and I can't pinpoint why. I had changed both my soap and shampoo so reverted to old types again but to no avail.

Tada!

Put bins out, including empty kitchen and wastepaper bins
Helped DCs sort PE kits
Watered patio plants
Cleared litter trays
Sorted stuff I need to take to work
Emergency school shirt ironing

Just going to go and do enough shirts for the rest of the week while it is still cool-ish.

Cagliostro · 03/06/2019 08:51

Awww love the furry pic!

I adore Dr Seuss I can’t wait to dig the books out for Cagletini. Actually I could probably get away with it now as she doesn’t rip them anymore, the only time she ever sits still is for books.

I’m in an anxious mood today as I’ve procrastinated over sending something soooo long that it may not even be needed anymore, I’m such an idiot I’ve been spending far more energy feeling guilty and anxious about it than it’s actually taken to package it up. FFS I really hate myself sometimes!

ChicCroissant · 03/06/2019 09:27

Day 1 and Famille Croissant are disappointed not to see a professionally-cooked breakfast buffet available, hotel-style. Madame Croissant despatches DH to work and child to school, then buys almond croissants for her own breakfast. Quite nice.

One load of laundry done and out to dry, one more in the machine at the moment. House needs some serious enforcement work Using the timer would really help today.

Catch you later!

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/06/2019 09:32

cagremember self kindness my dearFlowers
Expletivemaybe try variant of wet wraps I use?clean hands.wet pair cotton gloves and squeeze so wet but not dripping.coat hands in vaseline.put on wet gloves.to with a dry pair...it gives moisture and coolnessand prevents scratching in sleep
Sometimes do it if going just be still for a bit

Singingcricket · 03/06/2019 09:40

Well neither of them are great to be fair Lisette Grin Grin. Hope you have managed to avoid ranting school mum and sympathies re: Mon morning fragility. I know the feeling! Brew

Just spent a full hour picking up dd's dirty clothes/water bottles/choc wrappers off the floor and generally tidying up; all totally unnecessary had she done the minimum. That combined with attitude with capital A makes me Angry I should be more forgiving. She is feeling very tortured because she is very much on the cusp of pass/fail re: exams, is kicking herself for being a bit ostrich like over maths and physics (which she was told repeatedly was not good idea) and that is arguably a harder place to cope with than '"no hope, definite fail" ifyswim, as she knows at this stage a few points here and there will be vital. Trying trying trying to be patient here.

Sorry, missed the bit about excema Expletive , which must be extra uncomfortable in this sticky weather.

Cag we all do it, believe me! [Hands over official permission slip to forgive yourself and move on.] You have a full-on toddler, are home edding, have health issues, as does your dh, and are having broken nights. Things are bound to slip through the net. That's life. Please don't feel badly about it or yourself. Flowers

Right, place vaguely tidy. Quick hoover has been done. Machines are on. Off to do office work now. Bbl fledglings!
