Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

I never realised that stressy.....

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/06/2019 16:03

Grin. Also just realised that maybe you are asking Cordelia to call you Confused? I need clarification Grin.

I find labelling and organising strangely therapeutic when I have the time to do it.

Have half an hour before we need to go to the party so am going to try to do physio exercises.

It is raining but still hot here, that sort of summer rain you get.

Callmecordelia · 02/06/2019 16:44

I love this - I hadn't really thought about what to shorten it to! IRL my name is one which has many variations, so I think I can live with a similar thing online. Smile

The username itself is from Anne of Green Gables - when Anne first comes to live with Marilla, she has a rich imaginative life to escape the awful childhood she has had, and rather than tell Marilla her name she asks, "Can you call me Cordelia?" It's a book I have always loved. My Canadian friend who has never cared for Anne finds my love of L M Montgomery and romantic view of Prince Edward Island hilarious.

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/06/2019 17:01

Thanks! I have never read Anne of Green Gables but have meant to for years. Perhaps I should investigate a film / tv version as I am more likely to achieve that.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2019 17:29

Oh,cag I didn't realise twas a reference.you smartie pantsStar

I've just watched escape room on Netflix with dd2 as she wanted something a "bit scary".sometimes you need to be careful what you wantI enjoyed it,think she got slightly more scared than wishes to admit

Need start chivvying showers etc and tea..
Tonight it's veggies sausages and jacket sweet potatoesand green beans.pud is some jelly that's left from yesterday

Callmecordelia · 02/06/2019 17:54

Stressy - I'm sure you will be shocked to know I have a favourite adaptation Grin. It's the 1980s one starring Megan Follows. The actor who played the love interest died a few years ago, and the New Yorker did a piece on him and the Anne phenomenon on women of a certain age - www.google.com/amp/s/www.newyorker.com/culture/sarah-larson/jonathan-crombie-why-we-loved-gilbert-blythe/amp

foxessocks · 02/06/2019 18:41

Thread has gone all highbrow Grin!

Nice relaxing day here but unfortunately dinner time was stressful and now we are just trying to get the dc to bed with no more arguments! Dh on bath duty at the moment and I'm keeping out the way.

You are all doing better than me I haven't given any thought to school uniform for tomorrow or clean socks etc, I'm just hoping there's stuff there! I haven't given much thought to next week at all tbh. Probably got loads of stuff I've forgotten. I did sort dd PE kit out at the beginning of half term so I get some points for that?!

foxessocks · 02/06/2019 18:42

Glad you've had a nice day with your dscag

I still find it odd that such little kids have PE kits 😅 far preferable to having to do it in vests and knickers in my day though 😳 (I’m only 32)

I love hearing where people’s usernames come from! Mine is from an anime film called the Castle of Cagliostro.

I have never read Anne either, it’s on the future list for DD, if she doesn’t grow out of letting me read to her! I’ve never done as much of that as I should. Slowly getting through Howl’s Moving Castle (as we love that anime too :o)

Cagliostro · 02/06/2019 18:59

Blimey I was so slow reading I missed lots, the PE kits was in response to foxes!

I did really enjoy my time with DS both today and yesterday with the games. I really do need to make more effort with this. Too often I end up home with DS and we just do our own thing really.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2019 19:27

cag I spend all day with D's everyday but we don't enjoy it much..it's get school work done/I'm try do chores
Planning more actual time enjoying each other this week, spur on by your time with D's

My name's just basic-i do live in what feels like a bloody zooGrin

foxessocks · 02/06/2019 19:43

My name is from a book too...a Julia Donaldson toddler book that dd was obsessed with when she was tiny Grin we also have about a million cuddly foxes in our house , seems to be a thing now!

I can't remember what I wore for PE at primary school at all! I think we had a PE kit but probably just any t shirt and shorts. Dd has to wear logo t shirt in her house colour! Shorts and plimsolls or tracksuit bottoms when it's cold. I remember in secondary school tracksuit bottoms were not allowed even if there was frost on the ground, skirts for netball only! Doubt they do that now. And we were PE knickers too in secondary school. Ah memories!

Well as predicted ds is being a pain in the bum because he fell asleep on the sofa earlier and now he won't go to bed.

foxessocks · 02/06/2019 19:44

*wore not were... that would be weird

Lisette1940 · 02/06/2019 19:46

Mine's the heroine of a novel set in Nazi Occupied France. There'd be no point dropping me into Nazi Occupied France. I'd be hopeless.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2019 19:57

Ah,pe.im of generation vest and pants,
Middle school

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/06/2019 19:58

Should add they do pe in rain often with teacher snuggled in coat with umbrella...
They hate her as other class get go in if it's wet etc

Singingcricket · 02/06/2019 20:12

Well dinner was fun. Confused Sooooo lovely to have a monosyllabic teen at the table scowling at their plate Hmm when you've cooked their favourite Sunday roast in 28°c heat. I have truly tried my hardest this weekend to keep upbeat and supportive re: exam stress etc but confess to having barked a bit when a simple request to set out napkins results in arguments! [sigh]. I give up!

So glad your DD had a lovely time last night Cag! Smile

Hope comedy evening enjoyable Cordelia (Miles Jupp maybe?)

Well done for pottery decluttering Foxes , Sunday ironing Bower , delicious grub Zoo and timely school prep Toostressy!

Poor old fox, has lost his socks .....

I know that one well

We also live in a house of many stuffed foxes strangely! I thought it was just us Grin

Cagliostro · 02/06/2019 20:16

Dohhhh foxes I’m a numpty! I had always wondered if it was from Fox In Socks by dr Seuss. But this time round I’ve been using charity shops for board books and I picked up Foxes Socks, and despite reading it approximately seven million times I never made the connection!

I had to point out the second sock to DH by the way. :o

Singingcricket · 02/06/2019 20:24

Love all the name origin discussion! Smile.

Ah yes, more nostalgia ...Aertex shirts, wrap around sports mini skirts with inbuilt matching knickers Hmm (yes really), mottled thighs, puddles like lakes, mud, seagulls, freezing temperatures ... hunched over a hockey stick being screamed at by an irate nun wearing a wool coat and several scarves over her habit ...ahhh happy days Grin Grin.

Also love hearing about everyone’s lovely names. I’ve said this before but I like your name the best SC as it is such an inspired idea to be able to name change while staying the same. Family meal sounds painful as they so frequently are Flowers. DH and I ate our tea together on our own while DDs were at the party. We were saying how strange it was to be eating without mess or arguments in the daytime Grin.

My name is more about my daily life like you zoo! I played around with a few when I first joined and then TooStressyForMyOwnGood came into my head which pretty much sums me up a lot of the time Grin. Felt obliged to name change after the latest data breach as I had been a bit stupid and registered with an email address I also used in daily life. This time I have a specific email just for MN. I was lucky that I could still come up with a very similar username and sadly t is perhaps even more true to life Grin.

Girls back from party. DD1 still awake. DD2 just fallen asleep now. Very much hoping to sit down later after having had such an organising day.
