Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

chic red velvet cake just reminds me of the time I gave ds a bit at a cafe when he was about a year old and then his poo went bright red and I totally forgot about the cake and took him to the doctor's, they asked if he'd eaten anything different...doh!

Cagliostro · 20/06/2019 07:22

:o brilliant

I want to still be asleep 😡

Singingcricket · 20/06/2019 07:48

Wow Cag that is really impressive re: your walking and gym work. You have really gone great guns with your fitness regime over the last couple of months! Really inspiring!

You are also doing very impressive bicycle rides Lisette! Good luck with the decluttering decisions!

You both put me to shame - going to try and "launch myself" fitness wise - for the eightieth time in the holidays - really must do better!

Red velvet cake sounds scrummy Chic. Hope your dd manages to fight off her cold.

Gingernuts sound scrummy too Zoo! I used to live (briefly) in the S Lakes and occasionally used to go in to Lancaster which was once (appallingly) the fourth largest slaving port in Britain, built on the wealth created by the slave trade. Truly horrific. Anyway, on a little hill just outside the town, there is a grave of a little slave boy and an accompanying (very poignant) poem on his headstone described here. There is lots of info about it on-line. Just thought that taking the story of that poor child may be a more "personal" way of approaching the subject of slavery for your ds, albeit very distressing.

I never know where to start Foxes Grin

Waves to I've Honu Hills Toostressy Cordelia and everyone else I have missed!

Well the exams are over thank heavens, after three very long weeks of exams themselves and a fortnight of pre-tests before that. We had a nice afternoon yesterday - watched Paddington 2 (her choice Grin) - then went out for a bit of a shop and a meal. We came home fairly early though because dd was exhausted and she went up to bed carrying eight books she said she has been dying to read this term but has been too busy to do so! I doubt we will see her for a while today Grin

Visitor still here so we will probably be going out for the day, except its raining unfortunately and much colder this morning!

Also, dh and the furries are home (separately). I am very worried about the "puppy". She seems very ill at ease and almost fearful Sad. A bemusing personality change. Going to ring the trainer this morning and find out what the jeff is going on.

Have a good day fledglings!

Singingcricket · 20/06/2019 08:00

Zoo I thought this article provides a simple over-view of what is known as the "triangular" slave trade and the North of England. [Sorry to waffle on, but this was one of the history subjects I studied at Uni. ] It's actually shocking how, until very recent times, the subject has been ignored or covered up.

Oh no Zoo sorry about the meeting and all of the stress involved Flowers

ChicCroissant · 20/06/2019 09:58

Paddington 2 is some of Hugh Grant's best work IMO, love the bit in his room with the photos!

Hope the meeting goes well later today zoo, don't forget to eat and rest yourself - you need to look after yourself to be able to look after others Flowers

DD fighting off cold well (echinacea helps I think) and has happily gone off to school. I am continuing to wipe cake batter splatters off the kitchen this morning, as the raw cake batter tasted nicer (to DD) than the cooked version! Will freeze some of the cakes and ice some tonight. A bit too sugary for DH but I liked them all mine

We had some glorious sun this morning, gone a bit dark now I've put a load of laundry in but I am keeping faith that it will be dry-ish today.

Catch you at lunchtime!

Lisette1940 · 20/06/2019 11:46

zoo hope meeting goes well.

Very touching poem about the slave boy a long way from home. God bless him.

Have done the momentos without collapsing in a heap. Books next. Last thing is to put pictures up but will leave that to another day. Need to find wall homes for all and frames for two. Shredding ongoing - shredder gets too hot so have to pace it.

Am planning to teach ds to cook over summer.

ChicCroissant · 20/06/2019 14:04

Ugh, spent the morning folding and ironing laundry living my best life and still so much more to go. Will make sure we have suitable ingredients to make butter icing as a cake will be much needed later.

Good luck with the meeting today zoo

foxessocks · 20/06/2019 14:26

I did some bedroom cleaning at last!

Ta da
School and nursery drop off
Work
Daily routine and s&s
Collected ds, made lunch
Cleaned bedroom door, bits and pieces on dressing table and bit of decluttering on dressing table and cleaned some jewellery
Spoke to opticians and rearranged appointment (eventually)
Spoke to summer school people and finally got booking confirmed
Hoovered downstairs and stairs

Off to collect dd in a minute and then cook dinner - pork loin steaks with apple

Lisette1940 · 20/06/2019 14:33

Okay, books done and ready to donate a box. Have decided not to frame two pictures and have donated to charity. More shredding. Magazines sorted and ready to donate.

Mouth watering at thoughts of cake chic and also that pork foxes

Just shredding now. School run, quick dinner and then important football match for ds tonight.

Wing flaps to all.

Singingcricket · 20/06/2019 14:36
