Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Morning all

THE SUN IS OUT 🌞

That is all

Cagliostro · 18/06/2019 08:14

Thank you lovelies. :o SC that haircut joke made me laugh! TBH I wouldn’t be nearly so bothered if it weren’t for the fact their tap show is on Saturday and they’re filming it for a (hideously expensive no doubt) DVD. Really hoping I can persuade him to try some wax or gel. Blush

Busy morning trying to get stuff done in advance of the meeting. Including nit check for DD as we didn’t have time yesterday.

Have emailed to get a date for therapy to start. I was thinking of delaying it because of the end of term craziness but actually it’s times like this I really need it most.

Also TMI but this week I need to sort out leg hair removal for DD 😭😭😭 it’s really starting to bother her from a sensory POV (uncomfortable under leggings), I’ve checked nobody has teased her and they haven’t, TBH she is quite fair so you can barely see it anyway. I always said to myself I’d help if I ever had a daughter and not let them suffer in silence - my own story is a common one, I wasn’t allowed to do it as mum said I was too young, so I tried the razor myself but having no help ended up with painful rashes! 🙄 I’m really glad she’s been open with me about it, but right now it’s just like FFS yet another thing on the to do list 😩

Best dash downstairs for breakfast so I can be ready for nit check. FFS. Today is going to drag. I am super achy after the treadmill yesterday.

Singingcricket · 18/06/2019 08:45

Morning's me darlins'! Hope everyone ok!

Very early start as DD has to be in for history exam by 7.30 am! She was up revising at 5am which I am not sure is a good sign or not tbh! I now know more about the Reformation and Counter Reformation/ the Huguenots, Ghengis Khan and the Mongol Empire and the reign of Charles V than my middle aged brain can tolerate Grin.

I hate to say it but even with a visitor, things are so much calmer in the mornings with DH away, and DD seems less stressed as a result. Also have much more time with furries away at trainer's. The "puppy" is learning to retrieve atm! She's really good at it! Grin

Ta da:
DD delivered to exam
last night's supper things and breakfast things in DW
kitchen sink and surfaces cleaned
kitchen bin washed
two loads laundry out to dry on terrace
and fed again
home banking

To do:
a bit better S&S than normal
boudoir
home office
prep lunch for 12.00 as DD will be hungry (cold roast chicken, rice, and salad) cherry tart (bought from bakery)
on-line shopping

Doesn't sound much but boudoir (and home office) a huge job!

Morning all,
No sunshine here, we did have a bit yesterday but forecast overcast for the rest of the week, which is OK with me as I hate hot weather.

Did a good lot of tidying Fri/Sat which has definitely made a difference to how the house feels. The main thing on my to do list ATM seems to be paperwork, the list of small jobs never seems to end and there are several DCs events with time clashes so we are going round in circles discussing who does what/when.

Someone mentioned UV lights for detecting cat pee, I bought one last week and, wow, it works.

I haven't caught up with the full thread but was wondering how Scoutcat got on with the biopsy Zoo.

Lisette1940 · 18/06/2019 08:48

Thinking of exam sitters on the thread. I remember well thinking 'oh today's not so bad, only a three hour paper on X before horrid exam on y on Friday'

Very impressed with exercise commitment CAG.

Still sorting here stuff 😆

Singingcricket · 18/06/2019 08:51

Good luck to your dd today Zoo (ditto DD thinks she aced English and bombed maths). Good luck at physio!

Must dash, have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 18/06/2019 08:54

expletive I didn't realise the ultraviolet thingy actually existed for cat pee !

Singingcricket · 18/06/2019 09:09
Grin

Crikey! Ultraviolet detector sounds all very csi! It will be luminol next Grin

Good luck with paper work Expletive and sorting Lisette!

🍒 waves to everyone else!

OP posts:
Singingcricket · 18/06/2019 11:28

Ta da cont'd/:
rubbish and recycling
cleaned recycling bins and put on terrace to dry
hung up another load washing (great drying weather!)
two more in
cleaned bathroom imperfectly (cleaner will be doing it perfectly on Fri)
tidied toiletries cupboard
carried more dirty laundry downstairs
cleaned bathroom bin
prepped lunch
about to serve

DD back from history exam and it went well! Smile. Although she learned she has definitely failed maths as she suspected.

OP posts:
Singingcricket · 18/06/2019 11:32

Actually, thinking about it, luminol or ultra-violet would not be required in certain rooms in my house. A person could be murdered in the home office for example and create a perfect outline of a body in dust bunnies Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/06/2019 11:40

It's just a small torch with a UV bulb instead of a normal one, about a fiver from Amazon. It also detects human pee splashes on the outside of toilet bowls Angry.

Sorry about maths exam SC but glad history went well.

foxessocks · 18/06/2019 12:22

Does that mean she has to repeat sc or is it not as black and white as that? Hope she's okay anyway must be disheartening.

I'm just stuffing a sandwich down and then back to work as I'm not actually supposed to have a lunch break as my lunch break is collecting dd from school later! I have managed to tidy the toys in the living room, empty and reload dishwasher and put some washing on whilst making cups of tea!

The sun was out here but now it's gone very dark which is annoying as I washed the bed sheets hoping I could hang them outside. I should have trusted the weather forecast and not just look out the window! Grin

ChicCroissant · 18/06/2019 12:43

Raining again here, I think we are on the edge of the storm predicted for today. Really over the rain now.

Sorry to hear about the maths result SC, what will happen about that?

zoo try unplugging the kettle from the mains for a bit, it might reset itself. They often have a safety feature that triggers to prevent boiling themselves dry. I bet you can guess how I know this

DD did feel a bit better this morning and has gone to school, many thanks for the good wishes. I had terrible trouble with my periods even though I started them a lot later than she has, so I'm hoping she doesn't take after me in that respect - but the migraines she does get from me and a family trait from my slightly useless biological father's side If she's tired tonight again she can skip dance (and do the way more expensive music lesson!)

Will get some lunch, have been out this morning so not much flying yet, unless you count laundering three shirts which I can no longer hang out BECAUSE OF THE CONSTANT RAIN!!!

Lisette1940 · 18/06/2019 13:16

I still can't get over a school exam at 7.30am.

Only household paperwork to tackle. Includes all school, art keepsakes, photo collections, 7 year's tax records, instruction booklets etc. I'm taking a break before I do that. I think that might take a few days but will be worth it.

Long term garage clear out also to be finished.

I've done the household leads and wires and charging plugs etc.

Cagliostro · 18/06/2019 13:17

Keep plodding on everyone (through the puddles and all)

Meeting was fine, just got to wait for a family support worker to be assigned. She said the house is actually fine 😅 and that the kids are awesome (well, duh 🤪).

She’s referred the kids to Young Carers too.

Feel rather flat and tired from it all. Just waiting for a friend to arrive and then need to crack on with Vikings project and a bit of French, then English

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/06/2019 15:37

Well I have learnt about UV lights and cat pee now Smile.

Oh that’s a shame about the maths exam SC.

foxes, I can sympathise with ddecisions about putting washing out Grin.

Lisette1940 · 18/06/2019 15:49

CAG a friend of mine is a lecturer specialising in the Vikings. He once corrected a first year exam script which described how Viking men raided places 'while the women hoovered in the background'. He thinks the student meant hovered 🤣 but it's fun to think of Frida with her Dyson.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/06/2019 16:11

LisetteGrinat hoovering Vikings
Expletive he has enlarged lymph nodes, suspected allergies poss parasites...having skin scrapes and hair analysis Friday, then blood in couple weeks tested as we've no insurance
SC bugger about maths, what happens now?
Cag dd2 has an electric Asda "lady shaver" for her legs as I've neither time nor patience deal that ev five minutes, bad enough with lil zoo wolf pelt dark hair legs..less risky than razor blades?worth thinking about anyways..
Foxes good to hear you still got time to sneak and see us,even when working

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/06/2019 16:31

Sounds as if decluttering is going well lisette. Not surprised you are tired Cag but glad meeting went well.

Cagliostro · 18/06/2019 18:11

Seem to have lost a post earlier

That’s funny lisette :o

Cagliostro · 18/06/2019 19:09

Why have my highlighted posts changed colour 🤔 I like the little bookmark buttons though.

Phew, knackered. The meeting was a bit draining and I didn’t quite get across how bad some things are (it’s quite hard when you’re faced with this lovely sunny person!) so I’ve got her email address. She also spoke to the kids privately (within earshot though) and DD really hated that. DS was fine as he just chatted away as usual :o

Lessons went ok but it really is exhausting keeping 2-4 kids all on track! 3 with diagnosed ASD! We did a bit of Norse mythology today (no hoovering wives). I really need to plan better as I wanted to do all sorts of stuff around the subject rather than just following the book and I’ve not managed that yet. Crafts and stuff.

foxessocks · 18/06/2019 19:16

Well I'm worn out! Dd had a friend's birthday picnic in the park this evening so as soon as I finished my work we went along to that and dh has only just got home with ds who has obviously been on best behaviour for Grandma and grandad and now is really really hyper!! Like he can't hold it in anymore 😂

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/06/2019 20:02

Glad it's nothing more serious for Scoutcat Zoo, and glad your shoulder is improving. I've had a minor injury to mine for a couple of years, had physio before Christmas and it has been a lot better but pulled it again yesterday.

We've had more torrential rain this afternoon but no storms. Supposed to be wet again tomorrow then brightening up. I too would like to get some washing on the line. One of my poor neighbours has got a duvet on hers, it must be soaked.

Work today, I have agreed to take on some new responsibilities which is good news as I am currently in a bit of a rut. Not much Flying, but I have cracked on with some of the admin jobs that I was moaning about this morning.

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/06/2019 20:32

We have rain now and rain forecast again tomorrow after a couple of dry ish days.

I just came on to brag really that I made a Spanish omelette for tea and it was actually ok! I am a terrible cook really and this actually worked Smile. Plus it wasn’t too time consuming because I prepped stuff earlier. DDs helped me and made their own simple omelettes as they didn’t like the look of what we were having. DD2 ate it and even fussy DD1 said she would try it again with some modifications Grin. So that is a meal for now while DD1 will tolerate it.

So I am feeling very pleased with myself. Have piles of laundry everywhere but you can’t win ‘em all.

Hope your DCs settle for you foxes. Sounds v annoying about shoulder Expletive. That’s great news if yours seems to be improving zoo.

Behaviour boot camp continues here. I am trying to be much firmer and less scared of the kids Grin. Bit of a disappointing day though in one respect as a party thing they were looking forward to at the weekend has been cancelled.

Thanks for links SC. Big wing flaps to all.
