Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, although Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2017/06/11/please-explain-the-zones-6/
here]]

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for June is : drinking water!

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Thanks SC Smile. Best of luck to any DC with exams coming up this week Flowers.

I also read some of that messy house thread! I wish I could be one of those people who finds tidying up quick and easy like some of the posters.

TooStressyTooMessy · 16/06/2019 22:09

Xpost Cag. I love dance shows so much, are the Caglets excited? No real idea what triggered it no Sad. Other than maybe Father’s Day and we all know that big occasions can sometimes be too much pressure.

ChicCroissant · 16/06/2019 22:18

I know what you mean Stressy, I get like that with the threads that I think are untrue. I'm on one at the moment (not this one, obvs!). But if you don't comment, you don't get the deletion message!

DD has drafted some homework tonight after ignoring it for weeks after some persuasion. I wish she'd take a little more responsibility as I do get fed up of the nagging. She tends to panic even though it is revision of topics already covered before a test.

Not a great deal of flying today, there is always a fresh start tomorrow though!

Cagliostro · 16/06/2019 22:37

They’re excited yes but DS is nervous about being on stage for the first time (DD has done a few already) and TBH I am quite nervous as to how he’s going to cope backstage for hours. Will send him with plenty of transformers (but not special ones in case they get lost) as they are his comfort thing - so much so that Cagletini will actually make the transforming noise on demand now :o

Baby is driving me batshit today she’s so grumpy.

I’ve not read that tidy house thread as it would probably make me sad, I definitely feel the Caglets miss out due to the mess, it is motivating to try and improve further though.

Just so worn out emotionally and physically today, really CBA. Will try and do a bit of tidying tomorrow for the Early Help team but again, not so bothered about them seeing the clutter etc (it’s not even that bad, compared to what our old house was like). I have a bad feeling I may cry when they visit because things are rubbish and I will have to tell them how much we are struggling!

TooStressyTooMessy · 16/06/2019 22:46

Tell them Cag; that’s what they are there for Flowers. Aww at transformer noise!

foxessocks · 17/06/2019 07:02

Morning everyone. Sorry about the rubbish day toostressy sometimes I find days like father's Day I try and make them really great and so I come across a bit tense which rubs off on the dc! I always find that the really good days are unexpected , so perhaps next weekend when things have calmed down you can have a lovely family day Smile

Today is my first official day of work with actual contracted hours and more hours than before too so I need to be organised and I need to ignore any housework until I finish at work - it is hard working from home because I get distracted!! Not that I'm complaining as it's also very convenient!

Cagliostro · 17/06/2019 07:28

So happy for you foxes I think it could be good in terms of routine to have set hours! I wish DH did as he’s always distracted by emails and stuff Hmm :o

Not really sure what we are doing today other than home ed and trying to tidy up a bit. I think we may have to move some of the BRCs back into DD1’s room :( it’s impossible to move in ours and there’s no space to do things like sort more games for sale (not like I can have them in the living room where Cagletini will destroy them!). I have just realised we could possibly put them in the airing cupboard (which has nothing but some paint and a few sheets in) though, must have a look.

I may try and get to the gym later if I feel ok - I (stupidly) signed up to this challenge for charity where you have to walk a marathon over two weeks. So I plan to focus on the treadmill instead of my usual workout. At my usual treadmill pace it would take under 9 hours but I can also use regular walking like to town etc, all adds up! I need to find a pedometer app for my phone I suppose.

Cagliostro · 17/06/2019 07:52

Well the Caglets are up and getting their morning stuff done early so they can watch TV so I think the routine is seeping into their brains gradually :o

We’ve still not set up the evening one properly. In all honesty I think it’s because we both know that once it’s typed up and laminated we have to actually act on it and the thought of it is exhausting. Even though long term it will be worth it.

Man I ache so much! I want to go swimming just so I can sit in the steam room!

ChicCroissant · 17/06/2019 11:10

Morning! Have the TV set to YouTube and I'm watching Inspired by Nikki's Flylady playlist (the shorter one, not the one with the other lady talking in between Nikki's videos).

Should get more done today as not finding MN such a draw at the moment, some threads are completely unbelievable Hmm.

School run seemed quieter without the Year 11's this morning! Ity's been busy due to some (long-term) local road closures so easing the load would be much welcomed!

Catch you later!

IVEgottheDECAF · 17/06/2019 12:40

Ha. It is not morning. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Cagliostro · 17/06/2019 13:02

Indeed it is not :o

We have had a productive morning home ed wise (despite having to spend ages sorting the printer AGAIN 😡) just breaking for lunch and a bit of telly and then back on we go. I’ve got two more macbeth activities for them to do (both checking their understanding of the plot), need to do some french with DD as she is struggling, and read some more of the railway children which they are finding very boring! Then I need to cut DS’ hair and do a follow up nit check 😭 and then hopefully get to the gym to start my marathon walk challenge! All a bit pressed for time really because I need to be back in time for DH to go to the quiz if he feels up to it.

Singingcricket · 17/06/2019 17:49

🌼 Very very belatedly here is the sneak peak for the week because I'm terribly late with link and you all know what the launch pad looks like my now and how to access it!

Mea culpa! I'm terribly sorry I forgot to post link last night! Blush. Collected guest from airport around 11.30 pm and had to wait so back late and fell asleep!

This morning was a rush with early exam/DH departing/collecting DD from exam (because she's still a bit unwell) /feeding of teens etc etc (although exam finished by 10.30 pm so just did fruit platter and sandwiches and they didn't stay for lunch as rushing off to revise for yet more language exams tomorrow!). But then had to cook lunch for guest and Dd, and then take DD to find a Dutch dictionary to replace one she has lost and take her to university print shop to get something printed out for presentation on Wed.

And breathe ... .

Boiling hot here! Have washing X 2 grilling on terrace. Hope everyone ok!

Hope your busy day is going to schedule Cag! You sound invigorated! I love the idea of a staggered walking marathon! Good luck with it!

Wow! So do you I've that's another fab list!

Enjoy the You Tube Flying Chic! I'll have to look that one up!

Whoo hoo Foxes hope your first official day at work with longer contacted hours is going/has gone ok!

I agree about the best family moments being spontaneous, unscheduled ones ...the same goes for posed photographs imho!

Eaves to Toostressy and everyone else!

Must go and start supper now! Dashing but back later!

Hello all. Day 1 of kids’ screen time ban in the Stressy house. We are all still alive. Today I have actually been productive too (after reading yet more threads about how to be productive!) and have cleaned and tidied the airing / linen cupboard.

Big wing flaps to all.

When do exams finish SC and zoo?

foxessocks · 17/06/2019 19:07

Thanks everyone - first day was good and I even managed some home bleugh as well! Tomorrow is a full day of work so I have tried to get ahead and done my meal plan tonight...

Toostressy good luck with the screen ban!

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/06/2019 19:12

Sounds great foxes Smile

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/06/2019 19:12

And thanks for good luck!

ChicCroissant · 17/06/2019 19:56

Good to hear the first day went well foxes Grin Hope the exam went well too SC

I have done some ironing, laundry and washing up. I've had an issue with my steam generator iron but hopefully the item that will fix it arrived today. I will have plenty of chances to test it.

Just need to prod DD to do homework, back in a bit.

Cagliostro · 17/06/2019 22:23

Well today was all kinds of crap. Home ed went well until the end when we ran out of steam because DD was grumpy about French - I really need to not push so hard and just settle on a way to progress at her pace.

Then I tried cutting DS’ hair and it went really wrong! Normally I manage ok, it’s a forgiving style (think classic Justin Bieber kind of thing) so it doesn’t have to be perfect, but I really messed it up because I couldn’t find the proper scissors and the big kitchen ones were too harsh and his fringe too short, so DH had to take him for his first ever proper “short back and sides” type cut, and he’s really struggled adjusting, he hid in his coat and dressing gown for hours :( and I’ve felt awfully guilty and crap for screwing up.

I did manage to get to the more local, smaller gym in the evening as the quiz was cancelled. Walked 3.3 miles in 60 minutes which is a lot for me, stopped halfway and did the arm machines so I could sit down!

But had sooo much other stuff we were meant to be doing today and nothing got done. So frustrated. But probably better for the people visiting tomorrow to get a proper view of things.

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/06/2019 22:25

Oh Cag Flowers. We all get it wrong sometimes.

ChicCroissant · 17/06/2019 22:46

Cag Flowers I hope the visit goes well tomorrow, it must be a tough thing to have coming up - the emotions that go with saying out loud that you need help and the hope that it might be forthcoming.

Hair grows. Might be hard to cope with right now, but it's not a permanent situation.

DD seems to have a hormonal headache tonight and has had an early night. I hope she's OK. See you tomorrow fledglings, sleep well!

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/06/2019 23:12

Hope your DD feels better after some sleep Chic.

I have stumbled on another parenting comedy series for those of us that like them. It’s on BBC iPlayer called Better Things. It’s American. I wouldn’t say it is brilliant but I have found it quite an easy watch and some of the time it really nails the parenting guilt thing. It’s older children and teenagers rather than babies and toddlers though.

Singingcricket · 17/06/2019 23:41

Evening all!

Hope your dd feels better in the morning Chic!

Last exam on Wed here Toostressy (last written one tomorrow) then a week of hideous waiting for results! Top marks for linen cupboard reorganisation! (I need to do the same!)

Hope visit goes well tomorrow Cag! Question: What's the difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut!? Answer: Three weeks! Wink Smile. I'm sure he'll love it by then!

Hope tomorrow's work goes as well as today's Foxes!

Waves to everyone else!
