Part 7 of the decluttering challenge - can you get rid of one item a day?

Back again!

A group of mumsnetters have been emptying our homes, gradually decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day.

We’re very green and like to recycle, sell, give away and sometimes eat our clutter I’m still alive after the 8 year old gherkins.

Newbies are welcome to join us. We just get rid one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress, get support when it gets hard, and suggest new household systems and ways of doing things.

The most exciting thread on mumsnet. In this thread @SandandSea will tell us what she’s going to do with her big plastic sheet…..

Morning all!

I love Christmas in June Haha! Hope it was awesome sand.

Hope miniwillows foot is feeling better willow, that sounds mighty painful. If I were her I'd be milking that for the best part of a year ;)

Pasta is my go to super quick meal, cant imagine ever making my own from scratch haha. Hopefully that's given you some good cupboard space back raspberry!

My outs today are a wallet, lanyard and two broken DD1 toys.

Howre you doing @StealthNinjaMum? We're getting full on this thread, i can start a new one if your computer is still giving you grief?

MotherWol · 11/06/2019 13:53

Out today: realised there were clothes moths in the cat's bed. It's gone in the bin (sorry cat). Pile of old towels got some CF responses on Freecycle, but the cat shelter would like them, so they're going at the weekend. DH has agreed that we need to sort the books, as we're running out of shelf space, but experience tells me that could take a while to translate into action, as he's not always been on board with the project before.

Decluttered the School Application forms to the Council. Hopefully I got them right. They weren't the most straightforward of forms. FX for First Choice for both of them, it's the only one in the village. 2 would be OK, as they would both go. Choice 3 is seperate Infant and Junior.
Find out in July.

Got another buyer booked in for tomorrow. Crossing fingers for a smooth sale.

SydneyCarton · 11/06/2019 20:01

Today’s outs: a bunch of lol surprise doll card things that DD1 got with a magazine. I think you’re meant to collect and swap them but she’s a bit young for that and hasn’t touched them for weeks.

Also a couple of happy meal toys (bane of my life Angry I don’t mind them having the food, it’s the bits of plastic crap that come with it!) and a plastic carry case that held some craft bits

SandAndSea · 12/06/2019 13:35

One big, adult bike: sold! Grin

I'm just loving the feeling of relief at being free of it.

WoogleCone · 12/06/2019 14:22

motherwol, bookcases always feel great to get sorted but definitely agree that it's a tough job to get started as it can feel quite daunting! Hopefully between the two of you you can get it sorted in no time!

80moves what school year are you applying for? DD1 is due to start Sept 2020 but I've no idea when to do anything!

Awesome going sydney! It does make you wonder just how many happy meal toys get chucked every week doesn't it? Like what do they do with the leftover ones that aren't given out too? Boggles the mind, McDonalds are probably a major % of landfill with everything they dispose of.

Some big items going out sand! Always great when the space comes with a few extra ££ too!

My outs today are lots of recycling and an old vase I found under the stairs that had a crack in it.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/06/2019 14:35

Woogle it's for Yr2&4. Normal applications are more straightforward than In Year ones.

Sandandsea well done on selling.

I hate happy meal toys, party bag toys, kinder egg toys etc. And LOL dolls which are just expensive versions! Just pointless plastic

Peridot1 · 12/06/2019 15:36

Hello all.

Ive been a bit rubbish and fell off the tread.

Woogle - what a lovely baby! She is so cute!

More seems to have come into this house than gone out lately. Mostly me buying stuff.

I did have a sort out of my bathroom yesterday. Well one shelf. So some bits and pieces gone and old toiletries.

I need to get back in gear.

DS due back after his last A level exam any minute so hoping to do a sort out in his bedroom next week. Books need to go back to school as a starting point.

RaspberryBlonde · 13/06/2019 09:31

So after counting up the random change in the bag I found I'm £35 richer! Unfortunately mainly in old pound coins; hopefully the bank will accept them.

We don't have happy meal toys as no McD's that near us but similar problems with the plastic bits off magazines. They are rarely used but DD won't let me bin them. I must admit though I sneaked the LOL dolls she got for her birthday into the charity bag before she realised what they were. Felt a bit mean but that's one trend I don't need!

Totally agree pasta should be quick Woogle. I'd prefer to bake or make a nice curry if I've actually got time to cook!

Hope exams are going well for all those sitting them, you must be relieved it's over Peridot.

SandAndSea · 13/06/2019 18:26

My charity pile has finally left the house. It was probably the equivalent of 2 substantial sackfuls. Feels good!

WoogleCone · 14/06/2019 07:49

Morning folks!!

Hoping you're okay stealth! In your absence I've made thread 8 as a holding space until you can come back :)
