Part 7 of the decluttering challenge - can you get rid of one item a day?

StealthNinjaMum · 06/03/2019 12:16

Back again!

A group of mumsnetters have been emptying our homes, gradually decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day.

We’re very green and like to recycle, sell, give away and sometimes eat our clutter I’m still alive after the 8 year old gherkins.

Newbies are welcome to join us. We just get rid one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress, get support when it gets hard, and suggest new household systems and ways of doing things.

The most exciting thread on mumsnet. In this thread @SandandSea will tell us what she’s going to do with her big plastic sheet…..

To make us feel better, a story from DHs work...
Today they discovered a forgotten attic full of forgotten furniture... Which now all needs disposing of...
Our homes are not so cluttered as to have forgotten rooms. And we aren't trying to declutter a sprawling site measuring a few square miles and comprising 100s of buildings which has all have to be completely empty in the next few months and much of the contents transported 100s of miles.

SandAndSea · 28/05/2019 21:08

Very true, 80moves.

Welcome, Sydney! It sounds like you're doing really well.

Haha willow Grin oooh how I wish! Had a sweep yesterday, still nothing! Got an induction booked for next week but I'm praying I don't get that far, idea of induction doesn't thrill me.

Just plugging away at the laundry here, potty training is just an exercise in 'how many things can she wee on?'

I might bake a cake later, just cos I want to eat cake Grin

Willow - I'm laughing at the Radox reference. You must have been posh! That was a treat in our house. Grin

CruCru · 29/05/2019 12:52

Hi all

Not a whole lot to report here. I have decluttered a load of old socks and, now that my bathroom is no longer a disaster zone, I’m using a load of cosmetics I can now find.

I had an induction both times WoogleCone, it wasn’t awful. To be fair, I don’t know what going into labour naturally feels like.

Box of bits from a relatives sorted through today. Lots of blurry photos cut up, manuals for extremely ancient mobiles recycled. Lots more socks for recycling- they’re not breeding here. More likely nearing extinction 😱

SydneyCarton · 30/05/2019 07:28

A couple of odd socks decluttered here as well! Also a jar of coriander best before 2012 Shock and two bars of chocolate from 2014. The daft thing is that we only moved here at the end of 2014, so already bringing out of date stuff into a new place Hmm. Never again!

I also chucked out a mesh bag thing for weaning babies that you put fruit in so they can hold it and suck out the juice (I’m sure it has a proper name). DS is 10 months old now and ate a whole chicken goujon yesterday without any help, so I think he can probably manage without it Grin

WoogleCone · 30/05/2019 14:04

Hey everyone!

This'll be my last post for a week or so as I had a growth scan today and this baby is so big they're going to come out the sunroof tomorrow morning!

So womb decluttering commences tomorrow :)

See you on the other side!

Peridot1 · 30/05/2019 14:11

Oh Woogle that is one way to declutter your womb! Best of luck! Looking forward to hearing from you once you are done and baby is here.

I havent been doing much really. Tidied a chair in the corner that had become a dumping ground. Have a bag of books to give to a friend. Also decluttered a few magazines.

Am wearing a top today that I haven’t worn for ages as it was buried in a drawer. I now know why! Not keen. So it will get washed tomorrow and straight in the out bag.

SandAndSea · 30/05/2019 15:18

Good luck, Woogle! I'll be thinking of you. Flowers

PurpleFrog · 30/05/2019 16:17

Good luck Woogle! At least the birth should be quick, relatively speaking. Flowers Cake

Thanks so much everyone, just a very quick message to say my womb is 11lb 8oz lighter!!!
I'd say that covers me for a while ;)

Peridot1 · 31/05/2019 13:17

11lb 8oz!!?!!!! Wow!

Congratulations and very well done, Woogle! Lovely news. Flowers Bear Brew

gassylady · 31/05/2019 18:50

Wow the arrival of the “little” Wooglet totally wins the decluttering prize today GrinBrewFlowersBear Totally need an emoji for labour ward toast!

SandAndSea · 31/05/2019 19:09

Some (relatively boring) quick outs:

A jar, a pot, a fancy tin and a used lightbulb (finally replaced!).

gassylady · 31/05/2019 22:13

Forgot my own outs in the excitement. More old blurred photos for the bin. Several books for recycling and several for charity bag. Few bits identified for a try on eBay.

SydneyCarton · 31/05/2019 22:45

11lb 8! Crikey! Congratulations WoogleCone

Trip to Ikea yesterday but actually not too much new stuff coming in as most of it was replacements for old and broken things (bin, dish drainer, salad servers), baby proofing stuff now DS is walking, coat hooks etc

Today’s outs: a broken ladle, half a bottle of vermouth that was years old, an out of date bottle of ginger ale and a load of sachets of laxatives I was prescribed after DD2 was born Blush She’s three now, so I think I’ll be okay....

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 01/06/2019 15:17

Wow Wooglecone congratulations !!

Not much decluttering here this week, unless you count all the weeds in the garden.
