No delayed exit for clutter - March Flylady Thread 2019 for fledglings!

What would a combo of exit and clutter be, clexit? Exclutter? Perhaps we should just stick with declutter ....

Welcome to the March Flylady thread, we’d love to have you with us as we chat and work our way through our houses in March. Flylady uses the zone method of cleaning so we’ll be focusing on a different area of the house each week – we will post daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady website which gives all the details of the current Zone, daily missions and babysteps.

Newbies are always welcome so feel free to join in at any time. Flylady does recommend decluttering your house first, so if you are not ready for the cleaning routines yet it’s fine to focus on the decluttering bit – add the babysteps in if you wish.

Aparently scarlet fever is doing the rounds around here and case numbers are unusually high.

I picked some results up from the GP to take to see the allegery speciailist. They were stapled together so I suppose I wasn't supposed to read them. I peaked anyway. And in no surprise they say: dust allergy. Well doh. Not like I didn't know that already. That said this conformation has me giggling like and loon and ds has sent me to bed early. Personally I am going to blame the stress from work being the real cause, I came out seriously considering handing in my notice, but by the time I had worked my notice the issue which is the problem should have been dealt with and resolved so a bit pointless. That said. fucking bastarding cunting work politicis

Cagliostro · 07/03/2019 22:26

Been lesson planning much of the evening and then mum showed up earlier than planned :) Rowan is now having a massive tantrum though.

I have a dilemma of sorts if I can sound off here 😳 recently we found out that we could hire a particular building which would be perfect for home ed stuff. Loads of people were happy with the idea of it becoming the base for a cooperative learning group thing. That is really “living the dream” in terms of home ed - small groups etc. I’d be happy to arrange it overall as in do the booking/collecting money etc as we would all split the hire cost. However nobody else seems to be forthcoming in actually suggesting ideas... that’s not a co-op then. The idea of a co-op is surely that all the parents contribute their skills/passions etc.

So now I’m nervous of going ahead. I don’t want to end up doing everything if we are still splitting the cost, so I pay the same as everyone else for the privilege of doing aaaaall the work Hmm or I’d have to chase everyone to actually come up with stuff and I am far too anxious to do that.

So my other option is to still do all the work, but charge more to everyone else so I (a) don’t pay out myself for my own kids and (b) maybe even make a small profit (though I’d have to cover materials too)

I don’t know 😬 I have ideas, but I am so tired, I don’t want to be making a vast effort when nobody else is, but if it was maybe thought of as more of a business venture... I do need the income after all 🤔

I’m not even sure why I’m writing this 🤔😳 any thoughts?!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2019 06:27

cag I'd be honest and say you would love a co op whee we ALL exchange ideas and skills, but if for whatever reason we go ahead without pledges of X,y,z from everyone I feel it's unfair to expect me to sort all resources and pay for caglets and would then require the cost to be higher reflecting that my time is valuable
Must admit I'd find hard sayimg that but you aren't a doormat for others to wipe feet on/take advantage

Hills does this new allergy result buy you cleaning get out clauses at all?sorry works so crummy

Bower enjoy the trip

I've hope you got somesleep

I'm tired and I don't want to get up."d"p is ment be coming today, straight from working last night which always makes him antsy.i need a man cave to hide in....

ChicCroissant · 08/03/2019 07:32

Cag, if you are in charge (imagine lots of boss babe hashtags here) can you stretch the useage to perhaps toddler groups and/or after school activities too? Or hire the facilities out to anyone who wants to run an after-school club as well?

Hills I have an allergy to dust mite droppings, I was advised to damp dust and preferably get someone else to do the job.

zoo I hope DP is more useful today Hmm

Just sliding in with the Launch Pad

Morning all!

Cag I agree with Zoo. I think you need to be very clear in your own mind whether you run a voluntary service with help , or you are running a business, and don't mix the two. It obviously depends on the numbers as to whether it could be a viable business but sorry to say, it's just the nature of things that in every voluntary organisation, club, hobby group etc, that I've ever been a part of, it's always mainly a handful of people that do the lion's share of the work.

The only "third " way I imagine is getting an outside body involved (are there any home ed charities?/could your old place of work help if you lobbied for funding?) and have them set up the infrastructure (or add it to their own) and they organise rotas etc. Good luck with it though, it sounds great!

(Last thought, whichever way it is run, you'll have to be careful with h&s aspects and (your) liability should someone blow themselves up with a bunson burner they've loaned from you, for example. Might have to get borrowers to sign a "at my own risk form" before they take items away. )

Hope the trip goes well Bower!

Dust allergies here too Hills

I can't say what I was going to because it will break my Lenten promise not to moan on here. Grin Suffice to say, half term holiday has been interesting.

Hope everyone has a good day! Half

Sanguineclamp · 08/03/2019 07:47

It took me so long to type that on this ancient tablet that that was a crossed post Chic! Ta for link!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2019 08:39

Still pink cheeked and struggling to swallow breakfast I've sent lil zoo to school as her attendance isn't great and she has weekend to rest.she was up and down til 2am,last visited me at midnight.i feel like very bad mum as she's clearly feeling quite poorly.dp is walking her in now...
Dd2 tired and grumpy as up with mouth with her on and off.shes now got sore lip where tightening brace elastics only on one side are causing braces to rub.glad we bought dental wax now!she's smothered in that and stumbled bleary eyed out the door.im so proud of her as she's so exhausted and miserable can't chew/eat properly.today should be last tough day then starts feel but better
Well I've got 6hrs respite not counting D's underfoot from grumbling...
Need get some more bread n milk in a bit
Forecasts good til about 11 then awful again so soon do gets back we shall stroll to shops

Today D's is looking into (Saint )Veronica, who we learned yesterday at church ,gave Jesus a cloth/shawl to wipe his brow as carried the cross and his face is said to have imprinted on the fabric

Cagliostro · 08/03/2019 09:45

Ooh that sounds good zoo can he make a poster/info leaflet or something? Poor lil zoo I hope she manages today. Attendance rules are so harsh :(

Thanks for all the thoughts. Yes, with volunteering to sort it I just can’t envisage everyone contributing. I think there are a lot of confidence issues with it, eg not knowing where to start with maths activities or whatever as there’s a lot of “oh I wouldn’t have a clue” etc. And I think people are generally happy to pay for things to be taken out of their hands if that makes sense. Just not sure how to go about saying that, I don’t want to make some arsey passive aggressive post about people not contributing 😳 hence sounding off here!

Basically it would be a three hour hire every week or more likely fortnight, for a two hour session with various activities available. Or possibly 2hrs hire for 1hr session (£30 vs £45). Downstairs would be activity tables where parents could help younger ones (or possibly even the older kids could help them as a work experience sort of thing) with things like basic maths and phonics, maybe some kind of crafty thing. Then upstairs would be stuff for older kids. Which TBH I would probably end up leading anyway (nothing like maths as while I happily tutor individually, it is incredibly hard to do in a group with such a variation in ability/needs - it would more likely be working through a topic book but with a lot of supplementary stuff, so even if I “just” did that it would be a lot of prep). Hmmm it’s a thinker. Need to keep it affordable but it’s not a massive venue and with many of the kids having ASD, overcrowding would defeat the point if it becomes stressful.

I already sort of teach other kids with mine, but I was happy to take that on as it’s books I wanted to do with the Caglets anyway but having friends round to share it with makes it more fun. And it’s in the comfort of my home etc. This is very different.

ChicCroissant · 08/03/2019 09:49

Ah, I thought you were taking over a whole building full-time! That sounds more manageable.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 08/03/2019 09:56

Ah yes that would be way beyond my skills and finances! 😳The lady who has done that with the building for a community thing though, she is amazing. Loads of different stuff going on there, including the art class the Caglets do. But then I found out said building is available at certain times for a really decent price, it’s far more suited to our needs than just a hall (which often aren’t available in the school day anyway, most church/community buildings seem to be used for playgroups) as it’s basically like a house with a large downstairs room (including sofa area which will be great for parents) and upstairs there’s toilets and a little kitchen area plus a smaller room. £15 an hour is an absolute steal for that. But I’d need to get commitment in advance etc. Really don’t want to risk being out of pocket.

Sanguineclamp · 08/03/2019 10:25

Cag Ah sorry thought parents would be hiring learning resources to take back to their own homes (like a library) What you describe sounds a lot more manageable and a great opportunity. Could you ask advice from the lady who runs the building?

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/03/2019 10:53

Motivation please peoples?

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2019 11:57

I've

foxessocks · 08/03/2019 12:21

zoo just popping by to say I really sympathise with your dd as my braces are causing me nothing but trouble!! I haven't actually eaten properly since getting them fitted a month or so ago and I've been back once already to check things are ok...I really hope it gets easier!!

Sanguineclamp · 08/03/2019 12:59

Very little motivation here either I'm afraid. Trying to get on top of laundry because it's one of the few things I can do ATM (apart from lifting up and down stairs). Need to finish guest bed linen first though. Hoping being in control of one small aspect of housekeeping will motivate me to do something else exciting not like organising spices but I doubt it. #living life on the edge as ever Confused

Ouch Foxes that sounds really uncomfortable.

Zoo hope your brood can recover a bit over the weekend.

ChicCroissant · 08/03/2019 13:09

foxes that's awful about the braces - my DD has managed quite well with hers, I can see that some of her upper teeth have moved already tbh and she hasn't even had her first tightening yet! I have arranged the first tightening after school at the start of the half-term, but realise that we may not always be that lucky. I hope they get more comfortable very soon.

IVE, don't do too much if you are still feeling rough, you've had a bad week. Watch inspiring videos of other people working, that does it for me Grin I've been watching 'Inspired by Nikki' today, she makes the Flylady cleaning look impossibly glamorous Glitterball

Probably the most useful thing I've done today is stocked the fridge for tonight Wine , changing the bedding is boring (although slightly tricky on DD's raised bed).

Started raining here now, will press on with the help of YouTube (I'm getting worse than DD with it all).

OP posts:
foxessocks · 08/03/2019 13:39

chic thanks, my teeth have definitely moved so at least it's not for nothing! I think they are moving so much it's causing a lot of toothache and I've got wires that rub and the wax just falls off Confused and two bits that just keep breaking so I'm paranoid about chewing most of the time! I'm sure it will get better...

foxessocks · 08/03/2019 13:39

Tbf I don't remember it being nearly as bad when I was a teenager with braces!

Cagliostro · 08/03/2019 16:47

I BOUGHT CLOTHES! I got a black pair the same as the grey ones I mentioned the other day, and three tops two of which are slightly out of my very very basic “comfort zone”.

And had a nice lunch thanks to my mum, it was nice to be able to talk and eat without baby interrupting.

ChicCroissant · 08/03/2019 19:18

Well done Cag, sounds like you are kick-starting the princessing for the rest of us Grin

Thank heavens it's Friday. I'm ready for the weekend, even if it is the last one without something on for a few weeks! I will check back later but I will warn you now, probably after Wine with any luck.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2019 19:30

Cagliostro · 08/03/2019 19:32

I also antiprocrastinated my ass off by sending various emails and paying invoices and ugh now I have even less money

foxessocks · 08/03/2019 19:45

I made my a lovely pie tonight, leek, apple and cheese (it was a bit like a quiche in a way). Served with baked beans and cucumber sticks Grin

I am also very glad it's Friday! WineBrew 🍫

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/03/2019 19:50

foxes that sounds heavenly!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/03/2019 19:58
