Flying Resolutions for the Fledglings

Ok. 1st of January.

It's a long running thread, but we like new people. Just be aware if we seem cliquey it is simply because some of us have known each other for many mumble mumble years.

Respect. We won't tell you what you are doing wrong if you don't tell us. hint if you tell us we are doing it wrong we will tell you you are wrong

Babysteps. If you are new start here. If you dropped off the fly wagon, start here. Basically start here.

Missions. Do these, if you start with the babysteps you will end up doing these during the course of the month.

Decluttering - you can't clean clutter. But experience has shown that fly lady is good for routines but there are other methods that work better for decluttering. Feel free to mix and match.

Emails - feel free sign up to them. Most of us don't because there can be a lot, ergo whilst you are welcome to sign up for them; we don't generally recommend it. especially as one of the babysteps is to delete them anyway

Linkies. We will be linking to the launch pad from there you can get to babysteps, missions, flight plans etc etc. Be aware that some don't update until the date that they are on (eg looking at the links before midnight on Monday will not show the information for Tuesday iyswim)

Morning all, very little Flying yesterday as I went straight out after work. Planning a tidying blitz this morning.

Bower - we've got a Dyson 10. It is great but was very expensive. I can't imagine going back to a corded hoover now (our old one broke when DH used it to hoover up large amounts of damp bicarb had been put on a carpet to absorb a milk spill). It is fairly heavy and can make your hand ache holding the button in. It needs emptying frequently (we have cats and two people with long hair). However it is pretty easy to empty - I lift the kitchen bin out the back door and do it there to minimise dust. It picks up a shocking amount of stuff from carpets, does well on hard floors, goes up to edges well, is great for use on stairs, in cars and on upholstery, I do love it, but the cost is Shock. Many threads on MN have a lot of people recommending Sharks as an alternative.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2019 10:07

bower should've added he takes Bach flower rescue remedy

Finally getting going(slow start)
Everyone's fed and washings on!

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/01/2019 10:17

Slow start here this morning too zoo But you are as usual ahead of me. I am still in bed.

I will be honest I think a few of you are forgetting the underlying principles of flylady. So here goes

You are never behind
A little and often NOT all at once
Housework is not the be all and end all
looking after yourself and your family is important - go on that meet up with a friend, take that time to do something with the kids

The whole point about flying to make sure that you have time to have a life. So many of you are beating yourselves up for not flying and yet if you read your posts yes you are flying.

This is January the month when those horrible little voices tall us we are not good enough, we can do more, be more. And society re-enforces it. This month especially it is important to be kind to yourself. To look at what you DID achieve.

But just a heads up, I will pull out posts and give examples if you need it to see what I am seeing. But I would rather that you can try to see it without me having to do so.

Now I think I might go follow that mighty babystep of getting up to my shoes and doing a load of washing and tackle a hot spot. I might, just might spend 15mins throwing some bleach and bicarb at the bathroom. But I wouldn't want to be crazy or anything.

Tired. Tired. Tired.

2hrs till arrival. Still on sofa.

Argh.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2019 10:52

hills I m most impressed in your motivational speaking
I did need to hear that.much appreciated

foxessocks · 12/01/2019 11:26

Fab speech hills and you're absolutely right!

MeetOnTheledge · 12/01/2019 11:45

Star Hills

Cagliostro · 12/01/2019 13:45

Said they’d arrive at 12.30-1, I finally get a message at 1.35 saying they are just leaving 🤔 for a 40min journey 🤔

I’ve done a lot of cleaning though. Now I have time for a little more I guess. First I’ll pack up the other baby clothes that I’m giving them (they were clean, but crumpled so I wet them and tumbled them to get some creases out)

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/01/2019 14:13

ta da
rescue laundry from ds' room
convo with ds re decluttering
put on 1 wash so I can actually have clothes to wear - yep I failed to adult and stuck in pjs atm Blush
Aired the lounge
Collected some of the washing up from upstairs
Not kill the teen who is deliberately pushing all the buttons and trying to get a reaction Hmm threatened to make him spring clean his bookcase in the end
Wood glue a toy to fix it.
Delegate the designing of some applique pieces for a decorative curtain
Laugh at people who have gone out food shopping to ensure they get home made pizza for tea tonight Grin
Be grateful that the poinsettia is still alive and almost looks like it has half a chance
Morn the fact the same can't be said for the Christmas cactus that shred half of itself earlier this week.
Watch DOI and get told off by ds for being "super bitchy" nailed every criticism and then some but at least this year they are showing their feet whilst they are skating. There is a reason Fred Astair had it written into his contract that they had to show his feet when he danced!

Going to be honest I really cba and my to do list is super scary in length. Might have to find something to motivate me...

Hi all,

Well - what a week - I've been absolutely shattered this week, falling asleep on the sofa once kids are in bed and ive eaten tea so no real flying this week - everything went to pot!
Ah well - on wards and upwards.
Rest day today then move on tommorow.
Went for a run this morning and other than that just sat watching kids play - plus feeding them at random intervals GrinConfused
I will endeavour to post more next week as I try to get back to my routines!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2019 15:09

2loads laundry(dark uniform,whites are in drier)
Lunch made and eaten(veg and chickpeas soup)
Wipe bath and sink
Played dragon wood card game with dp and D's(excellent fun and D's actually seemed quite happy playing!!)

EustaciaVye · 12/01/2019 17:19

Hi everyone

Lots to catch up on. All I can remember is braces for sass dd. Bless. I hope she is ok.
And cag very rude relatives. I wouldn't open the damn door. But i guess at least you now have a tidy house....

EustaciaVye · 12/01/2019 17:21

I have sorted out diaries with DH and planned lots of nice things for the next few months, as well as take both DDs for haircuts. I am in a bit of a grump today though tbh. No real reason, could just do with time to myself I think :/

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/01/2019 18:12

My motivation to do more was to take a nap.
Homemade pizza has been made and is being destroyed as we speak.

only thing else I am going to do tonight is to clean out the fish tank.

EusaciaVye any chance of getting a little time for you soon?

Thanks Hills you are right.

Thanks for the dyson info. Yes I nearly bought it last night but I am usually a “ think about it overnight”on big purchases. The fact that it is heavy and that you had to keep finger on may make the difference. I can’t carry heavy things as right wrist knackered now after three
fractures. DH said might need to keep finger on which is not good as had dislocated thumb twice. It goes out more easily now and aches. Scafoid not mended properly. So means I need to try it out which if they are selling it means a trip to local family shop. I would use it mainly for stairs and upstairs later.DS 3 is going to let me use his Morphy Richards one about £100. So I can wait a bit longer. He also says there is a vacuum there he doesn’t use. So I will bring that back until dyson is fixed.

Hills. I fell back asleep and woke when DH rang at 9am. Didn’t get dressed and couldn’t be bothered to do a lot. Got dressed later and got stuck in which she might have a point on, though I still had my slippers on!

Ta das
Bathroom cleaned except floor.
Four loads of washing including sheets, duvet etc.
Tidy kitchen.
Wash up
Load dishwasher
Tidy sitting room and dust.
Had lunch and watched most of a film till DS3 phoned.

Need to sort a box of decorations.

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2019 19:21

Also having pizza. Homemade soup, Sainsbury’s vegan pizza slices.

Zoo rescue remedy is great. It helps me. I wonder if it would be beneficial to go to a homeopath. Might be too costly.
I agree with what you are saying. See if you can find information about adolescent brains from Dr. Christopher Green. I was lucky enough to go to one of his lectures and later a man in the north who lectured at Nurture training. Both talked a lot about teenagers re wiring. Made very interesting listening.

Cagliostro · 12/01/2019 23:05

Totally behind the thread sorry.
Visit was nice once they actually arrived 🙄

And I am really pleased with how much I achieved this morning.

Two big bag for lifes stuffed full of outgrown baby clothes left the house too :)

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2019 23:15

Hi Cags. Glad it worked out well in the end.

Much easier with Caglitini otherwise occupied.

Despite feeling exhausted I am also quite pleased with results. As no one is here at the moment if I tidy it stays tidy unless I make a mess🤦🏼‍♀️

Cagliostro · 12/01/2019 23:29

And she hugged me and said the house looked lovely :o

Cagliostro · 12/01/2019 23:31

I think it might be a regular thing TBH especially while DH is off work. I can get more of the cleaning done that DH is struggling with (due to the pain - normally he’d do more than me) and actually enjoy it especially now that I have my lovely speaker and Spotify :o and I get child free time. Although without a looming deadline of visitors I wouldn’t have to be quite so frantic and could break it up with Netflix :o

EustaciaVye · 12/01/2019 23:45

Trying to make a point of more me time Hills. It is hard to develop as a habit when you are used to prioritising everyone else.

Glad visit went well cags

I watched the first Marie Kondo tonight with my kids so went off and tidied my pyjamas drawer after. I cleared out all of my clothes recently but the folding is a good idea.

SassitudeandSparkle · 12/01/2019 23:52

Hills is absolutely right, both about the housework and about Fred Astaire insisting on a full length camera shot to get all the dancing in don't start me on Strictly on this point

Thank you for the good wishes with the brace. Unfortunately, there is an issue already so I'll ring the ortho on Monday and see about getting it fixed, a tooth and a bracket have parted company already. DD worried that she caused it but I don't think she did, and she's very anxious about eating. Hopefully this will wear off in a week or two, in the meantime there is always Wine (for me, not her).

DH has bought DD lots of nonfood treats to try and soothe her nerves but I expect this to continue until we've had it fixed.

Parenthood. It's not for wimps Hmm Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/01/2019 00:23

EustaciaVye totally agree with that statement

fish tank did not get done, I went out. It was a painful evening of exercise. Hmm it will get better I hope though. seriously when did I get old fat and so unfit?! I still 25 no?
