New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

StealthNinjaMum · 29/12/2018 10:28

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

Previous thread is here

I'm sorry stealth. It must be such a shock. If you're anything like my sister you may find it easier now he's gone. At least the atmosphere isn't there in the house any more, even if you do have to do everything yourself now. You and the kids will get through this. Flowers Lots of lists and keeping busy sounds like a good plan.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/01/2019 19:01

Dd2 helped today by decluttering some of her toys to sell at a pretend market at Brownies this week. I don't think they're using real money, so it's more like a swap shop but they all seem very excited about it. (I'll close my eyes when she brings back other people's tat)

SandAndSea · 26/01/2019 19:10

@StealthNinjaMum - So sorry, I only just saw your previous post and so sorry for what you're going through at the moment. Hope you're OK. Flowers

gassylady · 26/01/2019 19:14

Bag to charity shop today. Couple of (very old) books into recycling- really too tart even for charity bag. Few things identified to list on eBay.

Mokepon · 26/01/2019 19:51

Wow, congratulations Keiki.
And I don't know your story Stealth but it sounds like a shitty time. Onwards and upwards Flowers. Extreme decluttering.

On the decluttering front, it's hard going. I feel like I've gotten rid of lots of stuff but the house doesn't look any better. Hopefully a breakthrough soon.
This week...
A pair of holey wellies.
The old ripped up changing mat. I'm not buying another, we're potty training.
Old school books/artwork recycled/binned or filed.
A set of storage drawers that are too babyish for dd now we have filled with toys/clothes to take to the charity shop along with 2 other bags and a ball pit.
I will take them on my next day off in a week or so.
So DDs room is almost done, our bedroom is done.
Next on the list is the shitpit of shoes and bags that live under the stairs.
The bathroom just needs a proper deep clean.
The sideboard in the living room which is a nightmare.

Mumof1DS · 26/01/2019 20:31

@keiki, congratulations!! Enjoy the newborn snuggles and make sure you get plenty of rest! Flowers

@stealthninjamum, I'm very sorry for what you are going through Flowers Wine i hope things look up for you and your DC.

Absolutely no decluttering achieved here. A full week of work while full of cold, a baby with a cold and a DH with the bubonic plague a worse cold than me Hmm

SandAndSea · 26/01/2019 20:38

Today's out: a CD I probably haven't played for about 15 years. Maybe more.

Isn't it weird when you suddenly see clutter that you haven't seen before?

pippistrelle · 26/01/2019 21:57

Congratulations to keiko!

And strength to you, stealthninjamum.

pippistrelle · 26/01/2019 22:03

Today I tidied out the tights drawer. Chucked out about half its contents. It's still full, but it's neatly full, rather than struggling to close it full. Also found a favourite pair of socks that had slipped down from the over-flowing sock drawer above. Clearly, the sock drawer is next on the list as it's crammed so full that I've had to stow some in a sock overflow drawer. Nobody needs two drawers full of socks.

pippistrelle · 26/01/2019 22:05

Keiki, not keiko.

Thatsnotmybaby · 26/01/2019 22:23

26 January - 8 items from my pants drawer in the bin; also found some maternity underwear with tags still on;
so I'll put them with the rest of my maternity wear in the attic for now. I could have been more ruthless though so I will revisit that drawer for more decluttering soon.

reallyanothername · 26/01/2019 22:59

Congratulations keiki

PippaParty · 26/01/2019 23:04

I've been reading for a while.

My update - half a box of photos to be thrown out ( just what does one do with a very large, gilt framed 'oil' painted effect photo of ex and I. We didn't even buy it, it was part of a display in the hotel and given to us) ...anyway back to the declutter - 20 items listed on eBay. Some are my clothes from the 80's hangs my head in shame which have now become vintage and dare I say fashionable???

I am working my way through the whole house after a renovation.

I've kept a list - can I really admit to 28 bags to the charity shop and 30 to the tip.....I honestly didn't live in a tip!

Baby congratulations and here's to a new start as your ex moves out stealth. Decluttering is good for you, make your home just as you want it!

WoogleCone · 27/01/2019 06:01

Lists always keep me focussed stealth, that sounds like the best plan, the house exactly as you want it for you and your kids. Sending you lots of strength, Flowers, Cake and Wine :)

Got rid of a bit of recycling yesterday and today we have a couple of hours with DD being taken to the park by PIL so we have a list! Fingers crossed I can check in later with some positives!

KarBB · 27/01/2019 06:06

Joining as 35w pregnant & living in the most spectacular mess with major renovation works going on... need to get at least a few items out before the baby & all its paraphernalia comes in (currently there's a huge pile of it all cluttering up my parents' spare room as no room here!)

pippistrelle · 27/01/2019 08:43

That is some impressive decluttering, PippaParty!

Good luck, KarBB. It's hard when you've got renovation to contend with as well.

433challenger · 27/01/2019 08:55

I like greenwillows advice, just take it one breath at a time. This is your time now, you've come this far and we are all rooting for you.
Hope keiki is getting on well.

Today I've got rid of 7 children's books an unplayed with pack of children's dominoes and I've sorted through DD's clothes so that's another full bin bag for the local charity shop. There is also now a drawer full of things I know will sell, and be profitable too, but I need to summon up the enthusiasm to sell them. I shall deal with that bit by bit this week. DS's clothes are my challenge for this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday Smile

433challenger · 27/01/2019 08:57

I've also walked the dog, prepped all the vet for Sunday lunch, unstacked the dishwasher and put a load of washing on and hand a shower!! The perks of being woken up at 5am by your child Grin

gassylady · 27/01/2019 11:34

Tiniest item ever today an old silver coloured ring into the box of metal items for the next tip run. I was tidying some of the bits from relatives house to discover one old sweet tin was just full of old screws and nails so off to the tip it’s going ShockConfused

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/01/2019 14:31

I thought I wasn't going to do much this weekend, but I've managed something. I'm off to the supermarket and so took some dvds to the charity book and dvd bank they've got. So 14 dvds gone means I'm ahead!

Thatsnotmybaby · 27/01/2019 15:19

27 January: put some odd socks from DS's drawer into the clothes bank bag.

WoogleCone · 27/01/2019 15:35

Welcome KarBB! And congrats on your impending arrival, not long to go! I've got what feels like forever left!

I've put my four frames up finally, deep cleaned the kitchen and chucked a load of erroneous paperwork, cut up the big fruits so I have fruit pots for lunches all week, hoovered upstairs and on the stairs, DH cleaned the bathroom.

Back to work tomorrow, I sooooo can't be bothered!

abitoflight · 27/01/2019 16:00

This week...
4 roasting pans (brand new - not idea why I got these 🙄)
Another 4 DVD's
A pair of boots not worn for years
4 charger plates
An old night light from DD
Old bathroom bin
Pile of cardboard from garage

Not working tomorrow so may have another swoop of the garage which is an awful job imo

pippistrelle · 27/01/2019 17:33

Big bag of clothes sorted for the charity shop. That wardrobe not quite so squished now.

Husband took some stuff to the dump.

Even daughter tidied up her room.

I had to shame them into it though, but if that's what it takes...
