New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

StealthNinjaMum · 29/12/2018 10:28

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

Previous thread is here

I have spent a week at DParents doing some major decluttering .....but as that's not my house it doesn't count .

I have a Charity Shop bag so there might be clothes to go
An old string bag to the bin (Not suitable to recycle)

Not much else . I don't think I'll get anything done this week but planning to wash/dry the winter bedding and put on the lovely new M&S set .

Gibble1 · 02/03/2019 21:21

Scouting paperwork done. Well- almost. I have one daffy thing to do which is totally uneccesary and annoying and not my job and I had put the laptop away when I realised it was there to do 😬. Will do tomorrow.
Confidential waste burned. Need to hoover tomorrow.

Gibble1 · 03/03/2019 13:03

Just loading the car up to take items to the recycling depot. Also going to take the books to our local Morrison’s as they have a book table for fundraising.
Then will chuck hoover around and walk woofers and might make a start on the electrical category 😱

Gibble1 · 03/03/2019 14:23

The vax has gone to the tip too as it had died after almost 14 years of trusty service.

OublietteBravo · 03/03/2019 14:33

I’m busy filling the next bag of clothes for the clothing bank, but nothing has actually left the house this weekend.

I really need to deal with the kitchen drawers this week. Recording this thought here in the hope that it will spur me on to actually do them!

SandAndSea · 03/03/2019 18:42

DP and I have been moving boxes around and generally sorting things out.

  • We've done lots of hoovering, even under the stairs and under one of the beds (everything pulled out and dusted too).
  • We've found places for things which previously didn't have them, emptying about 5 cardboard boxes.
  • I've also freed up 1 plastic, underbed, storage box.
  • I've taken down a heavy curtain, washed it, cleaned the (large) window area and put it back up.
  • Various things which belong in the loft have been put back there.

Out: 1 canvas holdall and 1 roll of wrapping paper - I hate both of them.

The casualty of all this is, again, my dining room, which is now full of boxes which I need to go through.

Overall, I've just got Too. Much. Stuff.

MotherWol · 03/03/2019 19:51

Feel like I’ve done well this weekend. Out: some tatty underwear, DD’s nursery hoodie (which needs replacing, so that’s no net gain), and a few bits of clothing for the charity shop.

It took a while, but I also managed to find the dress I wore for my sister’s wedding, which is going to a group that reuses them for prom dresses. DS’s divorced now, so I don’t think I need to hang onto the dress!

StealthNinjaMum · 03/03/2019 20:27

You're all doing so well! I've not been as motivated recently, I think I need to do a Big List again tomorrow. Fortunately it's only one thing a day and dd2 gave me some clothes today that no longer fit her.

gibble greenwillow awesome work on the paperwork.

SandandSea another really good weekend, I can't believe you haven't finished this yet you are always so busy.

Gibble1 · 03/03/2019 21:15

I had a conversation with DH earlier along the lines of there being so much stuff everywhere it looks awful. However, I did also note that there are now lots of spaces being freed up and once we have finished with the grand declutter, hopefully everything will have a place and we should then be able to live in peace!
Electrical admin is still ongoing but it is reducing mental clutter so I will have to be happy with that for today.
I was happy to see people buying and looking through the books I dropped off to the Morrison’s table today.

Cherrysoup · 03/03/2019 21:41

Am filling a charity bag with 3 massive bags of clothes that have been upstairs for weeks. 😳 Also donating unwanted Christmas presents, a bit late, I know.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/03/2019 22:03

Gibble Thanks for that excellent Kondo list Smile

SandAndSea · 03/03/2019 23:19

Thanks, Stealth . I think it might be more talk than action. And, I'm just too damn sentimental! I spend ages going through things only to keep a big chunk of it, which I then go through again a year or so later. I'm looking at the boxes in my dining room now and thinking I've really got to cut this now.

vroc81 · 04/03/2019 07:35

I agreed with stealth, everyone sounds like they’re doing really well. Gibble well done on the paperwork.

I went through a box of old cards and things last night and threw a pile out including thank you cards from friends that have lasted longer than their marriage.. Blush

Also sorted through an old work bag from our understairs cupboard that had been left and some stuff from that went out too...

Not much but at least out not in.. I must sort through DD toys this week and see what we can get rid of prior to her birthday at the end of the month..

I just wasted ages mumsnetting and watching Prodigy videos on youtube (RIP Keith Flint). I am so unmotivated.

I did go through another big bag of school work so I now have 3 binbags of rubbish / recycling from all this effort. I am very bored and need to do boring admin like sorting out a broken BT line and broken computer. Very, very bored with life admin and housework at the moment! Need one of you to give me a virtual kick up the arse.

greenwillow I hope you're feeling better now and getting more done than me. The advantage of this life is that yes we might sometimes do nothing for two days (i.e. tidying) but it is much quicker to do it when you finally get round to it.

SandAndSea · 04/03/2019 15:14

Come on mate, I need you!! I came on here to get some motivation - that's not going to happen with you being all wibbly!

(That's the best I can do as I also have some v v boring admin to do and complete relate to your post.)

With this rain, I'm almost drowning in laundry (about 8 or more loads still to do I reckon). However, I have identified a top and some holey leggings which are going out. I also caught myself hoarding an empty washing tablet box - I had a good reason and everything, but, I spotted myself, gave myself a good talking to and binned it appropriately. Phew! That was a close one!

WoogleCone · 04/03/2019 15:33

Hi everyone, not checked in for a while, sorry! Everything's been on the back burner as I've got some pretty spectacular PGP atm, work has been interesting to say the least.
DD is sick today too so I've had to call in sick as she can't go to nursery.

I did sort the tins cupboard out last week as we've been stocking up on bits before maternity leave but it throws into light how much storage space I don't have :/
Using up some sugar and stuff on a cake that's currently in the oven though as DD is napping.

I'm going to catch up on the thread now but from what I've seen so far you're all doing amazingly well! X

StealthNinjaMum · 04/03/2019 15:42

Thanks SandandSea.

I Have Some Paper. Will Do List Later. Keep Kicking Me.

The thing is I have got rid of a massive bag of paper - which isn't to be sniffed at - but there is so much to do and I can't even be bothered to pick dc up from school. Must do that in a minute.

(Seriously I think I was on such an adrenalin rush December / January where I got so much done that I'm now on a bit of a low).

wogglecone hope dd is better. I'm not very industrious either but SandandSea is kicking me virtually. Perhaps she'll kick you too.

OP posts:
SandAndSea · 04/03/2019 17:08

Grin No more kicking from me today. I'm actually feeling inspired to make a cake too, thanks WoogleCone. I've decided to forget the admin job for today - it's too hard. Instead, I've cleaned round the kitchen and bathroom and played with the laundry and I can definitely feel a nice cake coming on.

Maybe give yourself a break, Stealth ? You've done loads recently. Pat yourself on the back and maybe treat yourself? Bubble bath and movie night?

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/03/2019 20:27

Stealth - "I Have Some Paper. Will Do List Later. Keep Kicking Me."
Maybe you need a night out, Stealth? I'd say cocktails but I remember your everlasting vodka!!
SandandSea - "Maybe give yourself a break, Stealth? Bubble bath and movie night?"
and look, SandandSea had the same idea!
(I know I'm not doing much here lately but I still love reading the posts every day and it gives me a different mindset regarding letting things into the house.)

StealthNinjaMum · 04/03/2019 20:56

I think the problem is that I am giving myself too much of a break at the moment. I seem to spend ages online, going to coffee shops and going shopping - but not buying very much because my decluttering reduces the desire to bring anything into the house!

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 04/03/2019 21:12

Well, you have just gone through a massive personal shock. It's not surprising that you might be doing things a bit differently for a while.Flowers

WoogleCone · 05/03/2019 07:11

Thanks stealth & sand, the cake turned out well, been trying to find a good chocolate recipe for a while and I think this one will do the trick! (Has caramel in it!)

DD is a bit better today but still not good so will be another day inside. Will try and get out for a bit later if I can coax her out of her nest for some fresh air.

What I get done today will depend on DD and any naps we can get in so hopefully I can report back later with progress.

Have a great day everyone!

RaspberryBlonde · 05/03/2019 10:09

Mmmm, cake sounds amazing Woogle. I must start baking again although guess we’ll settle for pancakes today! DD is unbelievably excited as they are her favourite. Hope your DD is on the mend.

DH had a sort out in the garage over the weekend so currently have 3 bags for the charity shop in the car boot, may take them down this morning when DS finishes his nap. It’s a nice morning so will be good to have a walk.

Stralth I am always amazed at how much you get done. Sometimes lack of motivation is a good reminder to give yourself some downtime.

Job here for today is decluttering of the tidying up variety...think I’m going to set some 15 minute timers fir individual rooms and see how far I can get.

RaspberryBlonde · 05/03/2019 10:09

Sorry Stealth, complete spelling fail!
