New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

Previous thread is here

Popping in to focus - I have 2 whole days off work and allocated to cleaning/decluttering next week - yay!

How much can I realistically expect to get done?

List so far is-
Clean oven
Steam clean bathroom and try to get any mouldy off the grout.
Wardrobe of doom

I hate meal planning and cooking for the kids so much. I definitely don't spend as little as 10 minutes a week. Perhaps if I did the same things every week I'd be quick but I do try to give them one new meal a week which takes time to researc and usually gets binned.

Looking down I realise I have those annoying holes in my top from seat belts / jeans zips. It's one of my favourite tops but will have to go in the rags pile later.

We had a freezer malfunction just after Christmas and so after mad frantic rearranging in the other 2 freezers while we fixed the big one, I've now put things back in a sort of system. Leftover freezer meals in one along with frozen veg and kids freezer food in one, desserts and ice cream in the little one and 'raw food' for making into something in another. We are now trying to work our way through some of the meals in there - sausages and a carton of frozen onion gravy for tea tonight with some Yorkshire puddings and frozen veg (although I have to virtually force feed the kids to eat it). That's a bit more space...

I bought a jigsaw for my DS and a pair of work trousers for me in the charity shop today so on my way home I was using my new mantra of "double of what comes in the house, must come out". So 2 in, 4 out - found 8 bankers box lids (no box to go with them) that have gone into the recycling, a letter tray that is unused and ugly in the bin, a sports direct mug that no-one uses in the bin and cleared a pile of letters/flyers that were on the dresser. So achieved todays goal.

Oh I hate that stealth! I need to sew a random hole in on of my fave tops (in the sleeve, goodness knows how I did that).

Meal planning/shopping is the bane of my life right now, super tight budget, hungry partner and fussy kids! I rotate pretty much the same things every week with the odd wildcard. It's so dull but I really don't have the mental energy to cook too many new things. One day I will recover my joy for cooking, maybe when my DD is at school?!

Today I have decluttered a load of small boxes that I was saving for posting eBay items. The thing is, I've sold loads of bits on eBay over the last year, but have had some of the boxes longer than that! So, gone into recycling they are. Also visited a friend and returned her rather large carpet cleaner, so that's more space at home again.

I shredded loads of cardboard and loo-roll tubes to make some guinea-pig bedding.

Everyone is doing so well. I don't get chance to post much but I like to read this thread every day (because that's how exhilarating my life is!! 😂) and get ideas for what to look at next.
This holes in tops are so annoying aren't they? And they always seem to happen quicker to tops I like.
Thank you for all the cupboard love everyone. Most cupboards in my house are that level of tidy now. In our lounge we have - courtesy of a very handy DH a beautiful feature wall with all the wires hidden behind it and bookcases built in the alcoves with half wood/half glass doors. It's nice to look at. I can get to what I need instantly and I can always change the display when I feel like faffing... Although with two kids faffing time is something I'm short on! There is however a basket of random PC stuff and wires in one bookcases that is DH's and he hasn't looked at it in over a year so I think that might be this weekends challenge. My enthusiasm for decluttering is still going strong!!!Grin

Any news keiki?
How are you getting on stealth? I'm hoping the separation is going as well as it can for you. You sound very strong and capable.

Well I've decluttered my womb and DC2 is here safely. Very tired and still in hospital so house decluttering may stall for a while.

Keiki love it that you were decluttering up to 16:16 yesterday! Congratulations on the new arrival!

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/01/2019 12:57

Congratulations keiki Flowers I may be a little jealous of all the newborn snuggles you'll be getting but not if the sleepless nights

My decluttering has stalled for a rather less exciting reason, work. I've got so much work to do it's taking all my time and headspace. I'm barely keeping up with basic stuff like dishes and clothes washing.

WoogleCone · 26/01/2019 13:08

Thanks for the kind words 433challenger (and everyone else who has been so sweet over the last few weeks.)

Stbexh has moved out. A man with a van decluttered a load of his stuff today and I took dc out because I am still in shock and didn't want to see him go. We seemed happy apart from normal ups and downs and now he's gone. I guess I am going to keep writing really long to do lists to keep myself busy and take my mind off him. Item number 1 of mondays list is to find a divorce lawyer.
