Fledglings Flying Festively - the December Flylady thread

[santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa]
A warm welcome to the December (dare I say Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

We are a long running thread but always welcome new members; the more the merrier Smile.

The new slimline structure seems to work well so I will stick with that. I will leave some links in this OP and then some quick links in the daily posts. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn! Especially at this time of year.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is here.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone that it is getting close to Christmas so there are holiday missions here.

December’s habit is usually pampering yourself but has not uploaded yet; I’ll link it tomorrow.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to SC for a lovely November thread. FlowersCakeBrewWine

There's vitamin c in apples I've < nods sagely>

Bowerbird5 · 22/12/2018 23:17

SC you have got to be joking. DH went to pub for half an hour...hmm. so comes back half cut and decides to put tree up. I suggest we wait till tomorrow but oh no. Tree is out and he cuts the green leafy ties. CUTS THEM. They are supposed to be twined around centre pole. places tree in corner before fluffing out branches. Next he insists on going up to the loft to get lights and decs. Breaks a long mirror in DD's room shattered half all over the carpet. Later knocks stuff off the table so I yelled at him about that. It turns out to be just the sewing kit but sounded more like breaking glass and it went every where.
After messing about in the kitchen he goes upstairs and as it has been quiet and the football is on I go to toilet and peep in to find he is in bed reading a book half mattress. So me with my bad back i'm decorating tree. Took an hour to do branches and I haven't finished but i have had enough. Offers Raspberry gin i can't join you as I am taking co codamol. Which I might add has knocked some of it on the head.

Sitting room covered in two piles of random crap and four boxes of decs. Didn't know we had so many. The tree looks pretty good. Need to get some pine bits tomorrow so I can see if DD notices. I am presuming she has left Australia but we haven't heard from her. Touches down in Manchester on Christmas Eve which is the reverse of what i did to my mum one year with DD. Her face was such a picture.
Picking up turkey tomorrow after church. Then to other butcher to buy gammon i like to share it. Some veg there too hopefully. They had chestnuts the other day and fresh cranberries. Glad you got your stollen can't have Christmas without it. I used to child mind for a German and she made me a small one every year. yum!

I have whittled a Naice point on the pointy stick for tomorrow. Right i am off to bed with a half done tree. It doesn't look half done but I haven't found the little soldiers that my eldest chose about 35 years ago so there must be at least one box to put on. I put them into saved Roses or QS boxes then into a big red and green box.

Bowerbird5 · 22/12/2018 23:17

Insanity I would say she meant SC.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/12/2018 23:33

Oh Bower, glad you salvaged the tree decorating.

Xmas Grin I meant Christmas but given that it is 11:30pm and I am wrapping presents rather than tucked up in bed I am thinking insanity Xmas Hmm. Have finished all the ones which cannot be done in front of DDs though so that is ace.

Bowerbird5 · 23/12/2018 00:14

👋👏🏼Toostressy well done on the wrapping. Every time I say I am finished it I find another gift to wrap. I’m just panicking because I can’t remember if I posted cards to two sisters I know I did the third.

Glad I reminded you. I hope to just pick one up from second butcher
Luckily they are near each other. They usually have loads I did say to DH we should get one last week. Hoping it will be easier with largercooker. I’ tucked up in bed now with a cup of tea and tablets taken. I also forget Cags.ouch back just gone into spasm. Think I have done too much. Need to plan shop tomorrow or DH will go off half cocked and buy too much and he is go8ng on Wednesday.

Morning all! Dragged from my bed by dd (5) rude. She is now playing aqua beads and munching toast. I am trying not to wet myself as need loo but dc4 is sleeping and his room faces bathroom, to be fair i could use downstairs but i dont like it 🤣

Today i need to go to several shops, only managed half of what i needed yesterday. It wasnt too ridiculously busy yesterday so fingers crossed. Also must continue to make house look decent before random people start dropping in with gifts and the like!

Brew
MeetOnTheSIedge · 23/12/2018 08:37

Glad you got the tree sorted Bower

Zoo, wow you really are productive in the mornings. Good luck with all the shopping. I am hoping to finish mine in Waitrose today (turkey and veg being delivered tomorrow).

I don't feel at all organised Sad. I have more or less been winging it with the food shopping (been buying in dribs and drabs). I have a Christmas folder with a master list and recipes and haven't even got it out this year. I am still feeling CBA.

foxessocks · 23/12/2018 08:45

Morning! Sorry I haven't quite caught up with the thread but you all seem very busy which is to be expected I guess! We have had guests this weekend who are still here so have been non stop but once they've left we are having a quiet few days before Christmas - thank goodness! And no more baking for me , my sausage rolls and mince pies went down a treat. We do have to pick up the butchers order today - be a bit of a disaster if we forgot that!!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve everyone Grin

EustaciaVye · 23/12/2018 09:16

Hello.
I used to be on this thread a long time ago. Years back. Going through some stuff and so I find myself here.
I hope you still take in strays like we used to.
Merry Christmas all x

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/12/2018 09:31

We take in everyone Eustacia Xmas Smile. Welcome back.

Glad baking was a success foxes.

Yes, terrible news which absolutely puts things into perspective.

Ta da:-
Had a lie in so am in a much better mood Xmas Smile.
Wrapped 2 small presents which I forgot had to be done without children - that’ll teach me for being smug last night! Don’t judge me but Santa always leaves a couple of things for the cat in her stocking Bear.

To do:-
DH has taken DD1 with him to do thefood shop, just the perishables we need to get so not a big shop at all. They will be there when it opens so hopefully not too bad.
Convinced DD1 that today was really not the best day to brave clothes shopping and she would get more for her vouchers after Xmas anyway so that’s one thing temporarily off the list.
DD2 and I are going to tackle the spare room as we have guests arriving tomorrow (in laws)
Need to make a list of food prep to do tomorrow. I am a shit cook and DH is working a lot tomorrow and in the evening so I need him to tell me exactly what to do for the cooking.
Possibly some wrapping
If time, clean house a bit but not the end of the world if this doesn’t get done
DD2 is ‘tidying’ her room so need to check on this as she has come to a standstill.

Before all that though I need to get up and dressed and get us both breakfast!

Good luck today everyone.

Welcome back Eustacia!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 23/12/2018 12:07

Welcome back Eustacia, it's always nice when Fledglings return to the nest Smile.

Well, I survived Waitrose by using the self-scan thingy so only had to queue for a minute or two. It was very busy but everyone was good natured and polite in a Waitrosey sort of way. I realised after I posted earlier that although I had already got most of the Christmas stuff I hadn't got much normal food for today and tomorrow, so it ended up as quite a big shop. I've put the frozen stuff away and am having a coffee before tackling the rest of it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/12/2018 14:11

Nice bit! Holly and ivy has been gathered in with help of two lively daschunds! Lots of beautiful berries this year Xmas Smile

Godsons' presents have been wrapped in time for visit tomorrow (large and awkward so a job and a half).

Now what. So much to do it's embarrassing frankly.
