Fledglings Flying Festively - the December Flylady thread

[santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa]
A warm welcome to the December (dare I say Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

We are a long running thread but always welcome new members; the more the merrier Smile.

The new slimline structure seems to work well so I will stick with that. I will leave some links in this OP and then some quick links in the daily posts. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn! Especially at this time of year.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is here.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone that it is getting close to Christmas so there are holiday missions here.

December’s habit is usually pampering yourself but has not uploaded yet; I’ll link it tomorrow.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to SC for a lovely November thread. FlowersCakeBrewWine

:o well since you’ve asked.

DD has very expensive taste in fruit Hmm and as we were wrapping gifts just us two, I commented on the posh gift wrap that has festive fruits on it. And she said Mum, IF it’s you who does the stocking rather than Santa, maybe I could have a pomegranate in mine instead of an orange? [she doesn’t really like the latter these days]

So this put me in a dilemma because I knew it would be funny to do so, but also it would confirm what she’s been back and forth on for months, that the stockings are in fact done by parents... so I said, would you be happy or sad if you got one?

Basically she knows really, but is worried about losing the magic. But I think it’ll become a tradition to give her a pomegranate :o

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/12/2018 00:24

Sounds sensible to me Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/12/2018 00:25

You know how i did a massive stash and dash before people came? I now have to access the room to find an important piece of documentation that I need by 12noon tomo. Yay me... Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/12/2018 03:57

O.m.g cag why have I not thought to do that sooner?!(allergic to oranges here, but love pomegranates!!!!

Slightlycoddled · 21/12/2018 05:48

My eyes. My eyes. Zoo my love, where is the coffee?.

Cag sorry but you have to put in an orange and a pomegranate for ambiguity's sake. One in the toe and one in the heel.

Hills good lucking finding the document sounds like a familiar scenario here

MeetOnTheSIedge · 21/12/2018 06:52

Well, I have to confess that I have never put fruit of any description in a stocking as I never realised you were supposed to put oranges in until quite recently. I had a vague notion that it was something that happened in the olden days but not that people still did it.

I managed all the wrapping except for stocking presents yesterday, plus a couple of hours work and a few errands in town.

Hills - good luck. My mission for today is to tackle a pile of paperwork so large that it slid off the desk of its own accord earlier in the week.

Bowerbird5 · 21/12/2018 06:54

zoo 💐thinking of you today.

Hills if you find my cheque book fetch it with you. DH knew where it was last month but can’t remember.

Last day at school today. Let’s hope it goes smoothly.

Bowerbird5 · 21/12/2018 07:02

Oh yes. I always put satsumas in and our tradition was also a chocolate orange. They still get the chocolate orange but not the stocking except DD as she likes that best except the year Santa put seven pairs of individually wrapped socks. She always gets a pair of socks as a reminder.

I bought some socks because she needed them. Then bought more forgetting about the first few pairs. Decided I may as well put all in to pad out stocking. She was about 7 oh she was so funny and thought Santa had gone quiet bonkers. I suggested the elves or. Santa must have been terribly tired by the time they got to hers having been to Australia first to fill the cousins stockings!

Slightlycoddled · 21/12/2018 07:20

In middle of dog barking, carton moving hell here. And dh (making coffee not helping) has just shouted at me in front of cleaning lady and his wife. Nice. Confused

Slightlycoddled · 21/12/2018 07:24

Zoo yes, I meant to say, I'm sorry today is such a difficult one for you Flowers

We always put satsumas and a chocolate orange in too. Plus walnuts and a few lychees for texture. Maybe chocolate coins but I don't find them easy to source here.

Wow Zoo that is amazng! Really cheery and pretty!

(I recognise the steps to that Playmobil house too as we had exactly the same one!) I am quite nostalgic for the years when dd used to decorate her Playmobil house at Christmas (sniffle).

Well done on doing all the wrapping Meet!! Star I haven't started our family wrapping yet!

Bower that's lovely re: socks. We had a much loved aunt (now sadly deceased) who used to send me and my siblings knickers every year. It became quite a tradition!

I can now formally announce the end of box gate!! Yahoo! My sitting/dining room and hall are now officially FREE from boxes. It was hideous carting them about and they have been dumped elsewhere all over the house but hey. I can now receive the tree tomorrow without embarrassment!

FestiveForestieraNoel · 21/12/2018 09:57

That's lovely Zoo such shiny hair.

Glad progress has been made with the boxes SC. Waves to Bower CAG and meet and lurkers.

Last swimming lesson before hols today. Was out at a neighbour/colleagues party last night. ConfusedGrin Am a bit tired and dehydrated this morning because I'm just not used to partying!

Have a good day all. Not many sleeps now.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/12/2018 10:03

I am in Aldi waiting to pay. It is soooo busy. This morning’s to do list will need to be massively reduced as it has taken nearly an hour in here to get a few bits Xmas Shock.

Love the idea of pomegranate tradition Cag.

Back later!

It is indeed SC not played with much, but a bugger to move..the girl cats occasionally invade and run off with a random piece that takes their fancy(people usually)
I did a fun post on Instagram couple years back of Playmobil people all posing at xmas.will see if I can finds and replicate it for you!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/12/2018 10:41

zoo , Flowers for today. Love the Xmas hair!

Woohoo for end of box gate SC. Sounds as if you’ll need to share the Brew with Forestier Xmas Grin. Well done on wrapping Meet, that’s fab.

Waves to Bower and Hills and everyone else.

Ta da:-
Aldi shop. I know, I know, I got an online food shop last night but wasn’t sure how much would fit in fridge etc and also forgot some bits of course
Glass recycling

Just got back so now I need to run around in a Christmas stash and dash!

FestiveForestieraNoel · 21/12/2018 11:24

Thanks Toostressy could do with it. Sorry for forgetting to mention you in my previous post - head's not with it.

FestiveForestieraNoel · 21/12/2018 11:26

Online shop arriving tonight. Then more perishable veggies being bought closer to Christmas day, like spuds.

Slightlycoddled · 21/12/2018 12:44

Just back from end of term Mass and teachers' meetings. Soaked through just walking back from tram, cold and weary. Rock and roll monk was a no-show sadly.

You sound frantic Toostressy so here's a Brew in return and one extra Brew for luck!

Festive you and me both, a glass and a half and I am anybody's nowadays! Xmas Wink Hope swimming not too strenuous!

Only if it's not a hassle Zoo but I'd love to see it Xmas Grin

Still very cross and upset with dh whilst trying to allow for the fact that he isn't quite back to full fitness (still having tests which all come back fine though). He's part of a profession where men (usually it is the men) can get very up themselves. He usually isn't like that but I'm afraid it rubs off sometimes. He actually uttered the phrase in front of friends/acquaintances recently "I think what my wife was trying to say ...". I could have clocked him one frankly. [seethes]

Slightlycoddled · 21/12/2018 12:54

Oh yes here's the deranged funny bit

Had my hair coiffed last night, cut and proper blow dry etc. So this morning, instead of washing it in shower as usual, just put big hair clip in (clip light blue a bit like a long plastic peg but more pointy and about four inches long) so that crown didn't go all flat in shower. Anyway, you guessed it, half way through Mass this morning and put my hair up to my head and there it was. The shame. Why oh why did no-one say anything ??? Xmas Confused Must have looked a right wombat... !

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/12/2018 13:25

Oh dear SC! Perhaps it just looked like a messy updo????!!

Forestier, yes, I will need to get perishables nearer the time too, hoping for Sunday.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 21/12/2018 13:28

Oh if I could get lychees to put in the stocking DD would be beyond ecstatic, they are her favourite, and mine too! Some years we can’t get any at all

Or maybe physalis, they’d get a bit squashed though.

See, expensive taste she has.

Just spent ages wrapping one present as it’s a special one. Colour illustrated hobbit, for DH to read to the Caglets, it’s his favourite and he has a ratty old copy that I got him years ago but the Caglets prefer colour pictures.

Need to go into town 😭😭😭 meeting a friend though which should make it more bearable.

Awesome Xmas hair, and thinking of you zoo x

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/12/2018 13:41

Fuck, I forgot to do the online shop ShockSad. Oh well. I have a back up plan for some bits but eeek and crap. Will have to sort them shortly, and they will have to arrive when they arrive. It has been that kind of year. Sad

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/12/2018 15:04

Oh no Hills. Can you get out to a supermarket / other shops? Or as you say they will have to arrive when they arrive. Fab present idea Cag.
