[santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa]
A warm welcome to the December (dare I say Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

We are a long running thread but always welcome new members; the more the merrier Smile.

The new slimline structure seems to work well so I will stick with that. I will leave some links in this OP and then some quick links in the daily posts. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn! Especially at this time of year.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is here.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone that it is getting close to Christmas so there are holiday missions here.

December’s habit is usually pampering yourself but has not uploaded yet; I’ll link it tomorrow.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to SC for a lovely November thread. FlowersCakeBrewWine

Well I was wrong, periods aren’t ok yet 😖 hope I’m ok tomorrow as I really don’t want to miss our first poetry tea time (we missed last month due to the sickness bug).

Today DH and I finally put the clean clothes away, he’s done more painting, DS put his laundry on. I read to the Caglets (always try and finish books before Christmas so they can start new ones they get given - particularly excited about the illustrated hobbit this year). No shopping online though.

Had a good chat with a friend, and shined the sink because OMG the drainer was utterly disgusting. 😳😳😳

Bowerbird5 · 17/12/2018 03:27

My sink is very shiny and lying on its side😕

Sorry to hear that Cags, the one thing that is good about getting old.

Merry Christmas Hills. Relax it’s Boxing Day.😄

SC that furry is way too cute. Both of them are. I would love a dog. I am awake because DDs cat was yowling. It has got upstairs( my fault) and shit in the shower. I guess it is better than the carpet, especially mine as I have old Persian silk rug from gran’s house. Is it old pine floor boards.
We have had extras for about 8-10 years. We might be having a nurse too. The boys have a lovely Irish friend who may not be able to get home so I said to check with him. If he isn’t on shift, if he is I will send him a plate for later. I love having them DH not so keen. At this rate we might be at DS2’s house. Why did I agree to have a kitchen at this time of year?

Not doing much flying.
DH took washing to son 1’s house while I was at church this morning. He did ironing last night a rare event but still grumpy. He cooked beef tonight while I was at church carol service. I just have hospital singing left to do.
I thought I had finished present shopping only to be given two at Mass. so two more to get which I might not need to buy as I found things bought in sales and put away. Candles, shopping lists from Laura A and a pen that matches one.Wrote most of the cards and gave some out at church.

Charity event tomorrow night. School finishes on Friday.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 17/12/2018 07:39

Morning all, lets hope your sink is in place very soon Bower.

Well, didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped, but DH did a massive pile of ironing (approx 95% of which was his as he lets it pile up for the month in the corner of the bedroom Angry whereas I do mine and the DCs weekly). Finished writing cards while watching SPOTY and The Apprentice final. I also did a big food shop, trying to get ahead for next week. Off out to meet a relative for lunch today and exchange gifts as we won't see each other next week.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/12/2018 08:11

Relax its boxing day? Nope exam day here. And I have woken up in so much pain that I can't sit, stand or think straight. Haven't even had chance to open a text book for any revision yet either. Plus there is the post cooking clean down to do.
No relaxing here, it is not allowed... Hmm

Ta da
ds' uniform in dryer
my clothes for today in washer
dish washer loaded and waiting to be run
coffee made half an hour ago but can't face drinking because of pain
Discovered pain meds are no longer 4 hours between but 6 hours between which means can't take anything for pain until 11am so that they are in my system when I have the exam.
Still arguing with parent pay...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/12/2018 11:42

Hello all. Good luck today Hills.

Going to fit in a quick trip to the gym then school event for DD1 then pick up and gymnastics. Start of another super busy week.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 17/12/2018 16:37

No but you have had a lot illnesses zoo and that can cause some additional shedding.

Did not take exam. Got sent home. Went to doctor got signed off work for a week. Hmm They have no idea to treat whatever it is that is the problem. So fluids rest and pain killers Whilst they conflab... Which is just peachy... Hopefully they can figure it out because rest, fluids and pain killers haven't changed the situation since August. HmmSad

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/12/2018 16:53

Oh bugger hills interesting you think illnesses may have added to our shedding issues, hadn't thought of that!

foxessocks · 17/12/2018 16:57

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/12/2018 17:59

Oh no Hills Sad.

Star for getting penguin washed foxes. Hope nativity goes well tomorrow. Such a lovely thing to watch.

Well done for getting cards finished Meet. Nearly there with mine now except for leaving a few out in case we get some that I need to write back to!

Hope you feel better soon Cag. Fingers crossed for kitchen progress Bower, you seek to be dealing so well with it!

Another day, another bickering session with dp.i get he don't do xmas.i get it brings back horrible memories of parents trying to forge a ceasefire and in natural attempts at ceasefire.i don't get why he just tried to cause rows in run up to it,as then we are repeating what he hates most
I'm tired of all of it
DS birthday tom(13) so need give myself an almighty kick up the arse so I'm"okay" for his special day.no idea where energy for it all's going to come from

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/12/2018 21:04

Pop psychology zoo, do you think he starts rows to ‘get it over with’ so to speak, in case the thought of the row is worse than actually having it, or viewing it as inevitable?

Sending you lots of good luck vibes for tomorrow.

DD1’s school nativity was lovely but something went wrong with one of her lines (slightly her fault but mainly just one of those things and it just went wrong so not really her fault iyswim?). Had hoped she hadn’t really noticed but she has gone to bed crying poor thing. Of course in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter but she is still justifiably sad Xmas Sad. Have tried to say that you usually learn far more from when things go wrong than when they go right and she dealt with it all very professionally.

Not eaten yet (unless you count two double decker bars Xmas Blush), still to unpack gymnastics stuff and supposed to be doing more of online food shop tonight. Also both DDs have school things tomorrow. Must keep going!

Aw stressy bless her.if it makes her feel better tell her about our carol singing Saturday...
A lady who reads a church often got up to read and a few toddlers were distracting with noise she was doing the wise men reading and said bought gold ,Frankenstein and myrhh(and I don't think she even noticed as didn't correct herself) must sit zoolets double takes when she said it were priceless.took superhuman efforts not to snigger a touch!Xmas Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/12/2018 21:25

Thanks zoo, I will tell her that Xmas Grin. Was trying not to put myself but I’m probably being paranoid and have changed a couple of things so... it was actually that she didn’t get to say one of her lines. It was her favourite one and was her last line. Basically she paused ever so slightly too long and the next bit was a whole class song and the kids just all started singing so she couldn’t say it Xmas Sad.

OP posts:
FestiveForestieraNoel · 17/12/2018 22:50

Our school play was 'Showboat' and the girl who played the Sheriff was meant to announce her investigation to Miss Parthy: 'Case of a white man marrying a black woman' for the musical was set in the racially segregated Deep South.

She announced 'Case of a white man marrying a white man'. Stunned silence then the entire stage and audience errupted into laughter.

Unfortunately Miss Parthy (the class clown) laughed so hard she wet herself. We had to clean the puddle and help her through a costume change.

Didn't get to the ironing. Another day tomorrow.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/12/2018 23:02

Oh no! Yes, it could be much worse, at least nothing like that happened.

Slightlycoddled · 18/12/2018 06:56

Good morning all!

Aw Toostressy your poor DD Sad - children take these things so much to heart - thought your response was perfect. You could also remind her that none of the audience would have known the script, so wouldn't have noticed. Hope she is feeling a bit cheerier about it all today bless her.

Festive and Zoo those are both hilarious!! Xmas Grin

Hill's glad you are signed off work and can rest and hope the pain is subsiding x

Hope your school nativity goes well tonight Foxes. Makes me feel homesick for UK when I hear about them, as they don't do nativity plays here for some unknown reason!

Hope you had a lovely lunch yesterday Meet

Zoo Well fwiw, I think DC do shed hair like pets! Well judging from the amount of really long hair I remove from shower plug which definitely isn't mine or dh's!! . We've had to have the plumber out to de-gunk bath pipe as well! I'm also shedding for England be aude of hormone meds but have short hair thankfully!

You sound crazy busy Bower do hope the kitchen sink is installed soon x

Hope you feel better today Cag!

Waves to I've Sass and Honu KingsScorn and everyone else I've missed!

Loads going on here but can't really spill sadly Xmas Grin which is probably just as well in circs (yes dh family still here say no more Xmas Wink ) So behind with everything, so much to do, so little energy to do it!

Yesterday did not go well. Had a stable door built in rudimentary cow-shed kitchen at wreck2 because the old one was falling off it's hinges. Went to check on it yesterday (because couldn't get there before with dh being ill) and the builder decided to keep the original door there "for warmth". So you open the top part of stable door, only to see the original door behind it. Bizarre in the extreme and we've paid good money for it. Xmas Confused. This is what happens when you are not on site to check there and then what is being constructed (sigh).

Went to gynae appt yesterday evening and surgeon wasn't there! A load of nerves and build-up and faff and hanging around and battling through traffic for nothing! [sigh.]. Still do not know day of op (double sigh).

And dsis2 upset because her parcel for DD which she had sent to us two weeks ago has gone missing. This is the second time in two years this has happened! Also bizarre and I understand why she's upset as parcels take a lot of time and trouble, not to mention expense (having just sent out 12 of the blighters to family, nieces and nephews, godchildren etc which took 3 days of packing, I certainly know this!!) and she's upset for DD. However I have no idea about what to do about missing parcel. All other parcels having reached us fine! Very strange!

On a positive note though, saw dhorse yesterday who came charging over the field to empty my pockets of pony nuts see me which was lovely!

Also, puppy (not really puppy but calling her that as she is still so wriggly and bitey and puppyish) is a joy! Her behaviour has improved so much just over three days! (She had not been given much attention in her previous home owing very sadly to divorce of owners). You should hear the racket however when the door bell goes Xmas Grin. Arming myself with Herta sausages for training purposes Xmas Grin

Have a good day everyone and keep warm! And remember to try and stop for just 5mins if you can to grab yourself a cuppa and breeaatthhee. (If we don't do this for ourselves at this mad time of year, no one else will do it for us!)

Tally-hoooooo!

Slightlycoddled · 18/12/2018 06:57

Cripes, sorry, that was a bit long, sorry Xmas Blush

Slightlycoddled · 18/12/2018 07:00

Sorry again, just realised my entire post could have been summarised in one sentence ie "animals are such a fabulous antidote to stress because they force you to live in the here and now". Xmas Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/12/2018 07:24

foxes hope you enjoy your first nativity!!
Good luck🍀to dd

Didn't sleep.happy face plastered on for D's today.can it really be 13 years since he rocked our world?!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 18/12/2018 07:36

Awww, poor DD Stressy. My DD was in a show a couple of years ago where she was disappointed at only getting three lines and on the night one of the other kids missed a line and went straight to the line after her longest one so she didn't get to say it at all, she was not happy.

Zoo - we get an astonishing anount of hair in our hoover (two cats plus one person with waist length hair and two with shoulder length). I have had alopecia in the past so am quite conscious of any hair loss and mine definitely comes in cycles, there is definitely a link with stress/illness too, with a lag of a few months.

SC - you need one of these Drain Weasel - the results are vom-inducing but satisfying and cheaper than a plumber. Grrr about the door, how annoying.

Slightlycoddled · 18/12/2018 07:55

Happy birthday to your ds Zoo!
Thanks Meet! That looks evil but effective!
