The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Even my children have been mopping because they like the pedal Grin. It’s easy to empty as well.

Level 1 jobs done and half of kitchen. boom!

comeagainforbigfudge · 17/12/2018 13:21

Ok. The last essay is finally DONE, time for much needed focus on the home.

Im jumping in with a kind of bootcamp, in that i am focusing on tiding and cleaning hallway, living room and DD's bedroom as hosting xmas so need these done first. Kitchen and bathroom will be done at some point over the next few nights. DD at nursery so trying to make most of it today.

So far:
Cleaned oven window - more because i wanted to try the pink stuff. Its cleaner but needs another going over.

Hallway cleared, lifted rugs, hoovered and mopped floor.

Oven now on to make my lunch so going to tidy living room as much as i can. Think I'll keep coming back with my progress today, going for short blasts of productivity, half hour at a time 😂. Hope it works!

CollyWombles · 18/12/2018 20:47

I investigated TOMM after seeing it mentioned on here and DH and I started it today. We are doing the boot camp and today we did the lounge, the hallway and stairs. Tomorrow will be kitchen and bathrooms. Doing more than is stated each day but that's because we want the house in ship shape for Christmas and there are the two of us doing it together.

Loving it so far and I'm going to try really hard to stick with it. I tebf to go through fads of getting my act together then slumping again.

Crimson72 · 23/12/2018 11:08

I spent about five days’ worth of time over the last 1.5 months bootcamping my seriously grubby kitchen and have finally finished!! Every single inch has been deep cleaned, scrubbed and disinfected.

I moved onto the lounge yesterday (a much easier room, bar the filthy fireplace) and am planning to finish that and the hallway and stairs today. I won’t have time to bootcamp the bedrooms and bathroom before our guests arrive for Christmas sadly but I’m going to give them a cursory clean so they’re presentable. The conservatory is a total tip and will have to wait till after Christmas.

Quick question though - does anyone else add a wipe-down of the kitchen surfaces and dining table to level 1 tasks? If I only did the kitchen surfaces once a week they’d be filthy! Or have I missed the point?

Crimson72 · 23/12/2018 11:10

Also, I’m still feeling so overwhelmed with the amount of cleaning that needs doing for bootcamp! Will I ever get there?! I’m hoping it will get easier from here on in after the nightmare that was the kitchen...

NamedyChangedy · 23/12/2018 11:57

Crimson I don't think wiping down surfaces is included because it's assumed that you would do those after every meal anyway.

Thirtyrock39 · 23/12/2018 14:10

It can be frustrating that on top of level 1 jobs the washing up and wiping down isn't included which can be quite time consuming !

cathf · 23/12/2018 17:11

Anyone want to share their Christmas OMM tweaks?
I've done the bedrooms and upstairs landing today. Will do the sitting room and hall/stairs early tomorrow morning, so that's me done until Thursday!

Thirtyrock39 · 23/12/2018 17:36

My Christmas TOMM:
Get as much washing done this weekend so don't need to do any Xmas or Boxing Day
Lounge and hall tomorrow-Xmas eve
And will do bedrooms on Boxing Day (not bedding this week though)
Will keep doing bathrooms, beds and hoovering everyday though

cathf · 23/12/2018 19:56

Still on track - DH just finishing the kitchen floor now. Hope to get all housework fo ished by 8.30am tomorrow so I can start Christmas properly!

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 17:31

Thinking of doing this as a resolution, does it really work?
Do you take any days off eg. Xmas etc.
Thanks X

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/12/2018 08:20

bumble I’m very messy but this is working for me. Yes, I’ve taken Christmas Day off but I actually made sure I loaded the dishwasher and hoovered after the guests left last night. I’m actually looking forward to going downstairs in a minute and seeing a nice, tidy kitchen.

And yes, I do take days off. I have a job, elderly DM, elderly DILs with health problems and 2 DC. On the run up till Christmas odd days have been missed but as it’s a rolling thing, I know those rooms will get done next time.

Anyway I’m off now, just about to start on my Wednesday jobs

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 13:39

Sounds brilliant @JiltedJohnsJulie
I would like to be able to relax a bit and stop with my all or nothing attitude

Either I literally do nothing or I blitz the place from top to bottom
I very rarely get a happy median

tryingtosortmylifeout · 26/12/2018 13:45

Either I literally do nothing or I blitz the place from top to bottom

This is exactly like me Bumble. I had a week off before Christmas and had to spend the whole of it deep-cleaning the house due to guests coming to stay over Christmas. If I’d been doing TOMM and sticking to it then I’d never have been in that position and could’ve taken the opportunity to enjoy some much-needed R&R. I read a comment by another poster who follows TOMM who said she’s always guest ready in about 10 minutes now - which is literally my dream. I’m really hoping to finish bootcamp soon and start TOMMing proper next year. I want to get my life back!

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 13:47

Think I might need boot camp!

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 14:11

Can't upload the page?
Does anyone use the book?
Tia xx

cathf · 26/12/2018 15:36

I am an all or nothing person generally, I but I have found the OMM very easy to adapt and I have also reached the happy position of always being guest ready.
It is a pain doing housework every day (I adapted the method as I have a few rooms not included in the routine) but honestly, I cannot evangelise enough about how much easier your life is overall by doing just 30 mins a day!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/12/2018 16:29

Can't upload the page? Does anyone use the book?

I’ve not seen the book sorry Bumble. I wonder why you can’t see the page.

Somewhereovertheroad · 26/12/2018 16:59

Hopefully this will show for you Bumble

The Organised Mum Method
Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 17:19

Thank you @Somewhereovertheroad
It's still not loading on my phone will try the laptop once the kids are in bed.
I desperately need a new phone 🙈 it crashes on browser a lot although my aps are still working

mabelstanley · 26/12/2018 17:45

I really like Tomm but i wouldnt recommend the facebook groups or even following her stories, she's really annoying!

Bumblebee39 · 27/12/2018 16:11

Starting boot camp once DCs are in bed hoping to start the new year the right way

JiltedJohnsJulie · 27/12/2018 16:57

Wow bumble you’re on a roll.

Which room is everyone else doing tomorrow, I think it’s the room of choice Smile

cathf · 27/12/2018 17:13

I think tomorrow is outside space, but which is a bit vague and challenging at this time of the year! I will either be tackling the offcuts of wood my DH collects throughout the year and taking them to the tip, and or starting to tackle the garage. Wish me luck!

Bumblebee39 · 27/12/2018 17:22

According to the quiz I need to do the clutter buster not the boot camp
Either way as soon as DCs are in bed I'm getting the housework under control!
