The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Wait until you discover her meal plans, such little effort for really yummy meals. DH keeps complementing me on how nice all these new dishes are, I'm just keeping it to myself how simple they are to make!

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 20:41

Ooh I have actually read your thread Polka! It was a good one!! I read another one today though that spurred me on to look up TOMM. Did you learn anything from your thread out of interest?

Organised Christmas starts tomorrow! [santa]Glitterball

MetallicDandelion · 02/09/2018 20:46

Yep! I’m in. Found it randomly a couple of weeks ago. Like you, I’ve got an anxiety disorder and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the ‘impossible task’. Already to go tomorrow!!

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/09/2018 20:56

Meal plans too?! Amazing!! That is my biggest failure and consequently my biggest waste of money!

Willing DS2 to fall asleep so I can go read!

noobs18 · 02/09/2018 21:05

Please please please can I join?! This sounds great!

noobs18 · 02/09/2018 21:10

Wait, just read up on it. What do people do if they have more rooms than the list? Where do dining/utility/home office/spare bedrooms go?

Also, she cleans her toilet every day?! Does everyone do this? Am I some sort of pig as I only do it once a week?

WooYa · 02/09/2018 21:17

noobs there's a 'Friday focus' on those rooms Grin if you have extra time after when you've finished a room, you could give another a quick go over. I only have a small set of stairs so do my bathroom on a weds and DH does it at the weekend

Steala · 02/09/2018 21:30

I'd love to join please. I've been struggling with depression and anxiety and chaos has reigned. I emerged to discover what a tip my house has become and have been bootcamping on and off for the past three weeks. I'm ready to start the method tomorrow and want others to help keep me on the straight and narrow.

What I love about her videos is that she knows what she needs to do each day and says things like "I've got 10 mins before I need to leave so I'll put them to good use". This is a revelation to me. I would think "the house is in such a state and I don't know where to start, what difference can 10 mins possibly make?".

I'd love the idea of an organised Christmas. I'm so often stressed until the last minute.

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 21:33

Been for a peek at Christmas and meal planning on the website, very slightly giddy!

I am actually looking forward to following this!

The daily toilet cleaning is something I actually already do thanks to DS recently learning to wee standing up Blush I was lying in the bath a few weeks ago thinking what the hell is that smell ...... thanks son, all over the bloody place so lesson learnt. Toilet and surrounding area sees anti bac spray daily now as it's easier to deal with that way!

I do have a second small bathroom in the loft (toilet, sink & shower) which I mostly ignore (but shouldn't!!) so will work that into the level 1 jobs somehow!

1 load of laundry is also something I have worked on as a general habit this year too (was sick of constant pile of clean/dirty washing all over the place so forced myself to keep on top of it!!!).

Steala I hate coming out of 'the fog' and realising what has gone to pot whilst the depression has been eating away at you. It's shit it really is, been there a few times and it's hard! Hope we can help in some way?!

I have another thread on the go too for weight loss, between this one and the weight loss one I feel relieved I am not alone. And it's nice there are lots of people to share my new beginning with Grin

Ok I'm in- I have a huge tick list myself of tasks around the house, but am always trying to find a better way to organise them so i will give this one a go. I tried fly lady but only lasted about twelve minutes because she is soooooo annoying and insists on things like getting dressed to shoes, shining my sink before bed and praying. This looks more normal!

pacempercutiens · 02/09/2018 22:10

I’m in! This looks like exactly what I need!

What's the Facebook group that was mentioned?

CarrieBlu · 02/09/2018 22:12

I need to do this. With a toddler and a newborn, our house is currently a disaster area.

EachPeachPearRum · 02/09/2018 22:13

How is it different to fly lady? Anyone know?

2slicesoftoast · 02/09/2018 22:20

Unlike Flylady, you are limited to a max of 45 minutes a day. Also, Gem doesn't email you constantly "inspiring" you to exercise, drink water or wear shoes.
I love TOM!

Bobbiepin · 02/09/2018 22:43

Why is wearing shoes so important? I hate wearing shoes inside.

2slicesoftoast · 02/09/2018 22:59

Flylady is more for people who don't work. TOMM is more for people who do work outside the house.
Flylady insists on shoes as it makes you feel like you're doing a job and you're dressed etc. (This is my opinion. I have no evidence!).
Personally I like to wander about in my dressing gown and slippers and do sone housework....

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 22:59

I couldn't get on with fly lady for some reason - I like the shiney sink idea but my sink is never empty long enough for it to stay shiney Blush

And I also struggled with the shoe thing, shoes for me go on as I leave the house and come off when I come in. I have slippers and bad feet which breathe a sigh of relief when said slippers go on Grin

The Facebook group is 'TEAM TOMM' - be prepared to spend a while browsing in there then on amazon to price up all the recommended products Wink

I’m in. I have a week off coming up so might have to start with Bootcamp because me house is awful.

lovelychops · 02/09/2018 23:33

Can I join please ? House is overwhelming me after summer holidays. I've looked at a few videos and she seems nice. Not annoying. Think I will start with the bootcamp. Lots of decluttering is required !

Thomlin · 02/09/2018 23:44

I'll join too if that's ok? I am clearly in need of bootcamp so will start that tomorrow after work Shock

EachPeachPearRum · 02/09/2018 23:47

I never quite got past the shiny sink stage with fly lady and I'm not wearing shoes in the house so I'm in. We are moving to a new house so it's a great time sort it all out or at least try! I need to create some kind of family control centre where there's a homework inbox etc.
