The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Sorry cathf, you’re right it is the outside space. Think I might start with picking up a the litter which seems to have acculated in the front garden over the last few days. Think someone has emptied their house litter in our street.

Crimson72 · 28/12/2018 08:55

I notice there’s no weekly day for bathrooms specifically - it just mentions wiping down every day during the 15 minutes and then a Friday focus once every eight weeks. How does that work - do people find the bathroom stays clean enough without a dedicated weekly day?

cathf · 28/12/2018 10:02

My bathrooms are small so that's a help.
I clean toilets, sinks and quick wipe of bath ledges every day. I clean the mirrors and floors on bedroom day and the baths properly on stairs/hallway day. I find that the ff is enough for the rest.

Crimson72 · 28/12/2018 10:59

Thanks Cath - I like the idea of combining the bath clean with hallway and stairs day!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/12/2018 12:38

I clean the toilet and sink every day, the shelf and mirror probably every other day. I clean the floors on Hall day when I’m doing the landing and make DH or DS do the rest Smile

I have just did a half hour clean around house. Really just the everyday jobs.
So tidied dry dishes away, washed up the few un the sink, quick tidy around living room avoiding the new toys , quick hoover in hall, living room & kitchen, wiped down sink and toilet. Tried pink stuff on hob. Only left it for five mins but seems to have made a difference already. Will leave it for longer next time.

I am liking having a cleared dining table. Xmas Wink

Is it too late for me to join? Just spotted this yesterday and had a look at the blog and think I could work with it. Hoping it helps with my anxiety about housework. I get stressed and anxious that it is untidy and feel that everyone else has beautiful, clutter free show homes. I think I just like the idea that I can just follow the plan and know that I am am doing a ‘good enough’ job.

Santasushi · 29/12/2018 11:41

@Skinfulnappies46 it certainly helps my anxiety.
The feeling of I’ve achieved something and the fact that I can keep on top of the housework. A less chaotic house means that I have a less chaotic mind!

I’ve been slacking over Christmas but luckily all but one room is presentable!

Skinfulnappies46 · 29/12/2018 14:33

When mopping the bathroom floor do you use a separate mop or just wash the mop head after doing the bathroom.?

Stompythedinosaur · 29/12/2018 16:48

Hi, wonder if I can join at this late stage? I've doing a huge amount of decluttering and cleaning for Xmas and I'm keen to keep on top of the house (and make further progress on our spare room and utility room, which are still messy).

I don't think I'll be able to manage my usual daily jobs in 15 mins but going to give it a go.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 29/12/2018 20:03

Skinful it definitely helps my anxiety but I don’t time myself when I’m doing the jobs as I feel that would put extra pressure on me. I think sometimes it’s just knowingly what makes you worse Smile

The mop i use is a cheap microfibre one from Wilko’s so when I mopped the bathroom, I wash it with sone other cleaning cloths at 60.

Stompy not too late at all, I’ve not been doing it that long myself Smile

Skinfulnappies46 · 30/12/2018 13:49

Thanks jilted will begin tomorrow in week 1 .

Stompythedinosaur · 30/12/2018 14:49

Thanks Jilted

I'm doing some extra stuff today so the house is good to go for week 1 tomorrow.

Skinfulnappies46 · 31/12/2018 10:43

Hi folks, what do you all keep your bathroom cleaning stuff in and where do you keep it.? Gems house looks clutter free. Mine will never be like that .

Stompythedinosaur · 31/12/2018 10:48

I keep loo cleaner, spray, wipes, cloths and a roll of bin liners on a high shelf in the bathroom so they are to had but out if the dc's reach.

mabelstanley · 31/12/2018 10:54

I keep a separate cleaning caddy in our wiring cupboard upstairs.

mabelstanley · 31/12/2018 10:54

Airing cupboard!!Grin

Littlechocola · 31/12/2018 12:52

I’ve got a small stand alone cupboard in the bathroom for empty wash bags and cleaning stuff.

Skinfulnappies46 · 31/12/2018 13:03

Great thanks. Was thinking of the airing cupboard . Do you all use a wee cleaning caddy with antibacterial spray, wipes, bleach?

mabelstanley · 31/12/2018 14:10

Mine has everything for upstairs so I don't need to bring anything up with me when I do the bedrooms.

So, bleach, wipes, bathroom spray, e cloths for mirrors, polish and dusters, shake n vac and vanish carpet cleaner. Plus bin bags for the numerous bins we have in bedrooms.

Xiaoxiong · 31/12/2018 20:40

I have a stack of microfibre cloths in the hall cupboard upstairs and next to each toilet I have a bottle of bleach and one of flash. Never more than 3 steps from a cloth to wipe things down!

Skinfulnappies46 · 01/01/2019 10:20

Good idea xia so you have everything to hand and it only takes seconds!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 03/01/2019 16:23

Has anyone got any idea since of how to stay on plan while you’re unwell? The GP has told me to take it very easy for a few days and I don’t not want all of my good work undone Smile

Xiaoxiong · 04/01/2019 11:05

Jilted don't bother if you're sick!! Life is too short to be dragging yourself out of bed and cleaning when you feel like death. If you feel up to doing some/any of the Level 1 tasks then you're ahead of the game already. If you have a partner they should be picking up some of your tasks as well to keep things ticking over and help you get well.

The beauty of the method is that rooms come back around on schedule so even if you've been sick or been away for a whole month, you'll slot right back in where you left off on the daily and weekly tasks and the Friday focus days will come back around eventually.

Many houses are cleaned only once a week. Those houses aren't completely disgusting after a week and neither will yours if you spend a week in bed. Take it easy and get well soon!

Littlechocola · 04/01/2019 12:59

Get well soon Jilted. Have a few days off!
