The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

FreshPrincess, you might need to do the TOMM Clutter Buster before you even start bootcamp. It's just having a good old clear out but I think Gemma adds some structure to it, can't link right now but have a look at the printables on the site?

Villanelle123 · 02/11/2018 10:01

I can’t believe how much I’m loving this. The half hours are great because you end up doing so much.

Cherrypi · 02/11/2018 11:28

How do you clean the front doorstep and what is a bin store? Think I’ve done the whole 8 week circuit now.

Freshprincess · 02/11/2018 11:44

Namedy - thanks, I have got the clutter buster sheet downloaded and it is really helpful. One week boot camp is too unrealistic for me, I work full time. If I had a full solid week to go at it I’d probably be much further along.
Going to read all the thread to get a bit of motivation, I’m starting to lose faith!

NamedyChangedy · 02/11/2018 11:53

Oh good, see how it goes and don't lose faith, even if it feels like it takes a while to get started. I also work full time and the system really does make a big difference.

Boobahs · 02/11/2018 11:54

I've decided to start with the boot camp on Monday, I have an active 2.5 year old and am currently 11 weeks pregnant so the combination of weeks of morning sickness and tiredness have taken their toll on my cleaning.

I'm thinking it will be a good start to sorting out some of DS's toys ready for the Christmas replacements (although I'm planning on keeping some for the baby).

Wish me luck!

Daily level 1 jobs I do as asked by pp:-
Wipe barhroom sinks and counters - alternate bAth and loos (2 minutes)
1 load of washing wAshied, dried and put away (or out in ironing basket for Sunday) ( 10 mins)
Make beds (1 minute)
Hoover / sweep downstairs (3 mins)
Easily done in 15 mins

Brideslave · 02/11/2018 15:34

Thanks all - I think I am on similar lines with my level 1 jobs, although some days I barely do 10mins over the course of a day.

Cherrypi · 02/11/2018 16:37

My daily jobs are one load of washing, unload dishwasher and reload with breakfast things, something in the bathroom no matter how small and hoover or mop downstairs if needed.

mrsoutnumbered · 02/11/2018 16:43

My level 1 jobs are:

-Washing (not every day, only when laundry basket is full so prob every 2/3 days)
-Load/unload dishwasher
-Tidy after meals ((wipe surfaces, wipe table, vacuum kitchen floor)
-Clean toilets
-make beds
-vacuum high traffic areas
-Wipe down sinks (bathrooms and kitchen)

Getting back on track after two weeks half term. Yesterday was strip beds and do lots of washing plus quick tidy around. Today did the bathroom the bath had been seriously neglected.

Made a start on kitchen cupboards, have emptied one food cupboard found out of date stuff so binned it. One three drawer system, took everything out cleaned out drawers and put everything back in the right place. Lobbed a couple of things because we never used them. Why have we got two wooden rolling pins I ask myself and a frying pan that does not work on an induction hob. The third corner cupboard, which has shelves which pull out the top one has somehow slipped out of the system do not know if a screw broke or something but it needs fixing. That is another thing, when something breaks I am going to get it fixed instead of putting up with it forever and a day.

Babbas · 08/11/2018 13:33

Tried the method and hated it. I just don't agree that you should do a loaf of wagging every day. 'Non negotiable' she says. That's ridiculous. The method is catered for stay at home women. Not men. Just women. Yes she gets her work Donne by 9am because she doesn't work and hasn't for a long time, this is now her career, het vom depends on her doing it, and she now being paid for advertising which she vehemently argued against.

It's another cleaning account that iuds making women feel crap. Every time I missed a day I felt crap. Also the method isn't really a method it's effectively do your housework every day and then pom top of that do 30 min of extra jobs. And like Jamie's book it's never 30 min really.

It's a big no from me. Especially now it's become another monetised account. And her followers are just as scary as the hinch army!!! The fb group is unpleasant sometimes.

Babbas · 08/11/2018 13:34

Load of washing not wagging!!!

Littlechocola · 09/11/2018 08:11

I often miss a day due to work and never feel crap. It gets done eventually.

I also disagree that it just for stay at home women. I work long shifts and my family are quite capable of cleaning.

I like that it’s relaxed, no pressure. I can keep up and I have begun to enjoy having a tidy home which I was never bothered about before. We definitely don’t have it done by 9am as that’s not realistic for us.

I don’t go on the Facebook page so no idea what it’s like.

As with anything, don’t take it too seriously.

BadgersBiggestFan · 09/11/2018 08:45

I think sometimes you just need guidance and that’s what it is.

It’s working brilliantly for me but I do wish there was a day for the bathroom to get all the extra bits like mirrors etc so will start doing that on a Saturday.

Thirtyrock39 · 09/11/2018 09:55

I've not really done a Friday focus yet and have still seen a massive difference - I just do level 1 jobs every day jncluding weekends and the mon to thurs half hour and on my day off I'll do a little bit extra - I don't think the focus is that vital
The bedrooms is the one that is hard in half an hour and kitchen definitely takes a good half hour but the lounge and hall days I can do really quickly so save them for days when I'm really busy at work

katand2kits · 09/11/2018 15:12

I agree, there needs to be a bathroom day ideally. I think I will start giving mine a clean on Wednesday because it doesn't take me long to do tiny hall and stairs

mrsoutnumbered · 09/11/2018 15:57

@katand2kits that's what I do - bathrooms on Wednesdays and halls and stairs with the living room on Mondays.

plaidlife · 09/11/2018 16:37

I do extra cleaning needed on Wednesday, en-suite bathrooms and sometimes some extra bedroom work.

boomshacka · 09/11/2018 16:49

@Babbas hugely disagree with you. It's turned my life around and I love it! I never feel crap even if I miss a day

BadgersBiggestFan · 09/11/2018 17:38

That’s a really good idea @mrsoutnumbered

Boobahs · 09/11/2018 19:02

I've just finished Day 5 of the Bootcamp, just got to do my conservatory tomorrow. I'll be following the plan next week and then I'll decide whether I need to swap any days around.

I definitely won't be doing a load of washing every day as we simply don't have enough to warrant that, every 2-3 days will probably be enough, I also won't be tumble-drying it as we rarely use our dryer to keep costs down. Clothes-horse will do for me!

I think as a rough plan it's great (I may change my mind next week! Wink) and my house has never been so clean and tidy but, as with anything, you need to tailor it to you (I did extra jobs in the Bootcamp). In all fairness Gem does tell you to do what suits you!

ICJump · 09/11/2018 19:55

I don’t work Wednesday so use it as a catch up day. I think I’ll move the Friday focus to Saturday.

The washing is the tricky thing for me. We don’t have a drier and have a large capacity machine so it can 10 minutes to hang out the washing.

Agree a bathroom day would be good. I think as mine is in such a state that just a little daily isn’t enough.

AllGoodDogs · 09/11/2018 22:57

I've been doing it 8 weeks now and my house has never looked better. Had a bit of a break from the routine over half term but all caught up now. I do my bathroom on a Wednesday with hall stairs & landing, but do a little bit as part of my level 1 jobs daily - toilet, surfaces, bath or floor etc. I switch it up as needed as it lends itself well to being flexible. I work 3 days PW so if I don't get a room done on a working day I know I can catch up.
