The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Winning at life right now with this

holidaylady · 13/11/2018 20:42

Me too. Our house is the cleanest it's ever been, but I don't feel like I'm always cleaning. It's super.

comeagainforbigfudge · 13/11/2018 21:03

Wandering back in as its dropped off my "I'm on" list. I've totally fell away from it but trying to get back into the swing of it. But work full time and studying so the housework is last on my list of priorities still.

But the end of my course is nigh Grin them i am totally back on it

Littlechocola · 14/11/2018 21:46

We can do this comeagain

holidaylady · 14/11/2018 23:24

Well I've been vaccuming every day since last week, as per TOMM. When we got the Lidl cordless Vax. So that has never happened before, ever! It takes 6 mins to do the whole house. And I empty it out after.

Here's why I've kept going- as each day there is exactly the same amount of crud being 'hoovered' vaxed up. There's no way we are tracking that much dirt into our house (shoes off at the door house).

I'm keeping going til theres practically nothing coming up. Will we have any carpet left? Were the floors really revolting and we had no idea? Time will tell!

Kitchen done! Have decided I will clean out a cupboard every Thursday as the kitchen doesn’t really take a full half hour.

Need to check what tomorrow is.

Looking forward to the weekend off of cleaning but I always feel it’s so gross by Monday! Maybe I’ll become a swot and do extra.

chimichangaz · 16/11/2018 17:06

I never do a Friday focus as I think I've worked hard all week so want my Friday off! May decide to front load Monday's instead as I end up doing it on a Saturday...

The method feels like a lot of work but I can see the payoff in having a cleaner, tidier home Grin

BadgersBiggestFan · 16/11/2018 17:55

It does feel like a lot. I’ve never ever done 45 mins of cleaning per week never mind per day but just to know I won’t have to have a meltdown and start from scratch again is fab!

And knowing we now have a full weekend of no cleaning in front of us bar the essentials 😍

chimichangaz · 17/11/2018 08:19

@BadgersBiggestFan Yes indeedy GrinHalo

Ilovealexa · 19/11/2018 17:12

Monday done!

Littlechocola · 20/11/2018 12:29

I love today’s play list! I’m playing catch up because work has been exhausting and apparently no one else can do anything in the house!

Boobahs · 20/11/2018 19:48

I think I'm going to swap my days around a little, I finish work slightly later on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in between giving my toddler lunch and trying to get him down for a nap before danger zone, I need to do the quickest days then.

Thinking:

Monday - Living room and hall/stairs
Tuesday - Bathrooms
Wednesday - Bedrooms
Thursday - Kitchen
Friday Focus

Trying to think about what I can get done while he's napping upstairs/before lunch. I would prefer a day for the bathrooms, and timed the session yesterday so I know I can do living room/hall and stairs in 40 mins.

Littlechocola · 21/11/2018 12:47

I swap my days depending on my shifts. Not a chance that I’m doing the kitchen after a 12 hour shift Wink
I try to stick to the routine but sometimes swapping days is all that works for me.

DH thinks I’ve gone mad, I’ve asked for a shark for Christmas Grin

I just ordered myself a dyson v8. Ridiculously excited with the prospect of my new vacuuming habits Grin

Littlechocola · 25/11/2018 10:07

@comeagainforbigfudge what have we become!

Want2bSupermum · 25/11/2018 15:05

Joining in. Both DH and I work FT and we have 3DC aged 7 and under. We have a dog and 2 cats.

DH has asked us as a family to follow this method because it gives him the structure he needs to be able to jump in when he is home and help out. It makes a lot of sense, even if he is home for 1 day between now and December 27th vs my 18 days. In Jan he will be home a lot more and I'm going to make him stick to it.

Littlechocola · 27/11/2018 10:35

I hate bedroom day Sad

Cherrypi · 27/11/2018 11:06

Good music today to get you through it. Im dreading Friday and bathroom day though it’s not too bad.

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2018 11:45

I normally do a big clean each week as a family activity. Kids do it with me. This is the absolute opposite. I got home at 10:30pm last night. I did the basics minus the laundry and jumped into bed.

Littlechocola · 27/11/2018 15:23

@Cherrypi I went upstairs and fell asleep Grin I’ll try again in a bit. I’ve stripped the bed so it can’t happen again.

Boobahs · 27/11/2018 15:51

Got late afternoon appointments coming out of my ears this week (I work until lunchtime) so caught up on living room and hall/stairs today. Will have to do bedrooms tomorrow when I have enough time to dry the bedding. At least I haven't thought "sod it!" Wink

Ilovealexa · 27/11/2018 20:59

First night in over month since we started that I’ve not done my half hour and it’s really Unsettled me.

Will maybe be worth staying up an extra half hour just to get it done.
