The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Well when I get stuck put MAMMA MIA film track on, that gets me moving/dancing. I also put netflix programme on my netflix sometimes, I find these things make it more bearable.

BookishOwl · 01/10/2018 12:10

Good idea, I'm going to listen to my audiobook to see if that gets me off this chair

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 12:22

I had a great week last week but I've woken up feeling knackered today so I got back into bed after the school run Confused

However the cleaner is here doing downstairs so at least somethings being done, but I still need to do the every day things like laundry, making dinner and the Christmas jobs ( my decorations are in the loft!)

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 12:23

I'm also 24 weeks pregnant so I'm using that as an excuse Smile

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 12:24

I find music motivates me so much, I literally can't do anything without it. I'm going to stay in bed with tea and biscuits and force myself to get up about 1.30 and do my jobs, then its off to do the school run and brownies/rainbows!

madmum5811 · 01/10/2018 12:25

Pregnancy does muck up your energy levels. Just do what you can when you can. I had so much more energy in the 2nd trimester, by the end of the third I was flagging though.

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 12:46

I'm usually the same but I'm still feeling treacle tired most days and still being sick a few times a day too. Sad I'm lucky we both work from home though so I do get round to doing things but not always first thing in the morning!

Cherrypi · 01/10/2018 13:55

Third week of this and it has changed my house so much. Did living room in the half hour no problem today and was looking for extra things to clean. Still need to learn how to do streak free windows. Hope I can keep it up.

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 14:00

@Cherrypi donyou have an ecology? I bought the window ones the other day and they are amazing!

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 14:00

Grr do you have an e cloth Smile

TwittleBee · 01/10/2018 14:01

Cherrypi I swear by just water and a tiny bit of washing up liquid. Then use a squeegee to wipe down and a cloth to wipe away any excess water

Steala · 01/10/2018 14:01

Me too! I finished the basics with 8 mins to spare, so ended up doing jobs I never dreamed I would get around to.

April241 · 01/10/2018 14:03

I’m new to this and am planning on doing the boot camp this week as I’m not back at work till Friday night. I’ve written it all down but struggling to get it started with two snotty kids. Can’t get out my own way today!

happytobemrsg · 01/10/2018 14:16

Started this today in the rooms not destroyed by the builders. You can get a lot done in 30 minutes!! Finding I need to spread it out a bit (i.e. I can't do 30 minutes in one go) but I don't think that matters

Sparklyfee · 01/10/2018 14:23

Good luck @April241 I've nearly finished boot camp, took me an extra few days but I've a lot of rooms.

It feels great to finally be on top of it!

Cherrypi · 01/10/2018 14:29

Where did you get your e cloth from @furandchandeliers?

Littlechocola · 01/10/2018 14:29

I’m tidying around house guests. We had a massive party at the weekend too so the house is slightly trashed. Guests are out for the day tomorrow so I’m planning a bath, a nap and a catch up on housework! I’ve missed doing it properly! Front room is done but wasn’t as done as I wanted it to be.

furandchandeliers · 01/10/2018 15:09

I got mine from amazon but you can get them anywhere I think Smile

RaspberryBlonde · 01/10/2018 15:15

Second the ecloths for windows, mine are from Ikea so not 'official' ones but work well. Also just getting the window wet enough to clean it helps me avoid streaks.

DH not well today so have been distracted from housework by trying to cheer him up. Just a cold which the rest of us had last week but he seems to be suffering more! Have got level 1 stuff done but that's it, hopefully I'll be able to catch up this evening. Need to get ahead this week as we have a weekend of houseguests coming up and don't want to be dashing around on Friday.

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/10/2018 19:33

Very cheekily i have changed the bed sheets today, dusted and hoovered living room and kids bedroom, sorted through a massive pile of uni stuff. Put one wash on and dried/Put away another. Remade kids bed and now need to do my own. Oh and wiped bathroom sink and flung bleach down toilet.

I'm trying to work my way through bootcamping our dining room but ive been using it to study and its now a dumping ground of, well, everything. Its so demoralising Sad but i know i will feel so much better when its done

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/10/2018 19:34

Demoralising in that it doesnt look like ive done anything yet but i swear i have Grin

Littlechocola · 01/10/2018 19:55

comeagainforbigfudge it will all come together

April241 · 01/10/2018 20:37

I’m trying to do Bootcamp but I’ve just picked a time lots of jobs today rather than focusing on one room but it’s worked.

Managed to put away laundry that’s been in our room for days and days
stripped the beds
done two loads of washing and hung it up
got rid of clothes that have been hanging about my wardrobe for ages
scrubbed the kitchen sink, worktops and cupboard doors
cleared living room clutter
hoovered half the living room (hoover wasn’t charged and cut out 🙈 in charge now)

...feeling really productive now and feel like I’ve managed to clear some of the mountain of laundry and other jobs that just weren’t getting done. Will continue the rest of the week with more bits and bits then I’ve allocated rooms to days and made a plan for daily tasks.

Littlechocola · 02/10/2018 08:48

Bedroom day! It’s pouring with rain here so tumble dryer will be on.

madmum5811 · 02/10/2018 08:50

Great inspiration here
