The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

I really cannot manage this fifteen minutes thing. Took me two hours yesterday and that was just hoovering, cleaning bathroom, sweeping kitchen, stripping bed linen to wash. General tidying up. The place did look lovely. Thank god I did son came down with stomach bug last night so little sleep and I am a zombie today.

RaspberryBlonde · 27/09/2018 19:21

Oh no welshmist, hope he is ok. Nothing worse than dealing with stomach bugs bunny in the middle of the night.

Been out most of today so very little done, will have to try to catch up tomorrow but least as we have visitors over the weekend. Spent the cleaning time I did have collecting all the windfall apples in the garden before they rot.

Sharing the pain on those procastinating over the oven cleaning, I am also trying to ignore this task!

Sparklyfee · 27/09/2018 19:26

My boot camp didn't happen today so now I've to fit the bathrooms and hallways into one day Confused Determined to do it though!

namastayinbed · 27/09/2018 22:03

Kitchen 30 mins spent cleaning the fridge and the cutlery drawer!

TwittleBee · 28/09/2018 05:57

welshmist Hope he gets well soon!!! 15 minute thing can be struggle on my end too sometimes but most of time it's doable.

Okay so I think, thanks to DH having day off yesterday, we have caught up and back on track! Just need to find time to do the Friday focus today inbetween going out with the girls tonight and work

Nelumbo · 28/09/2018 08:32

Been wanting to try this for a while. I did try and do boot camp but failed miserably. The thing is by time I get home from work I'm just too tired to do much cleaning past the every day stuff that HAS to be done I mean I have to do several bowls of washing up as I don't have a dishwasher, shopping, cooking, preparing lunches for the next day, loading, hanging and folding/putting easy washing ( I also can not do a load of washing everyday as I don't have the means to dry it)

I'm a single mum so all the errands and ferrying kids about is down to me. Even just to get the Hoover round everyday seems a struggle at times.

I tend to do the essentials as above during the week and any extra cleaning and tidying I prefer to do on the weekends when I have more time and energy. I still need a method that works around this though as my house is out of control at times.
I'm going to write a list of what needs decluttering/cleaning from every area of the house and try and do a bit each day and more at weekends. I feel I can't start the 30mins a day until the house it completely decluttered! But this is not easy with life getting in the way! And kids cluttering it up as fast as I'm clearing it!

My aim is to get to a point where it's easy to do 30mins a day but it also doesn't matter if I don't get time some days. I will swap out a day, say instead of doing Friday focus on a Friday maybe I'll do it on a Saturday instead while the kids are off doing their own thing. I can then keep my Friday free from anything and relax after the hectic week.

Also doesn't help that my children are not the best at picking up after themselves or helping out!

mrsoutnumbered · 28/09/2018 08:46

I think I'm going to clean the oven, but over the weekend instead if today. Kids have an inset day today so cleaning is impossible!

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 28/09/2018 11:24

Fingers crossed! I'm armed with my oven pride and I'm going in!Shock😱

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/09/2018 17:39

How did the oven cleaning go?
I have done heehaw this week so have done half an hour this evening tidying things away in living room, damp dusting with my dettol wipes (that are nearly finished then back to dusters & polish), sweeping up and cleaning toilet and sink. Ive put away a couple of baskets of dried laundry, one wash (from earlier) in the tumble drier and 2nd one in.

On a happy note my washing basket is empty. Its the smallest of victory's Grin

RaspberryBlonde · 28/09/2018 18:04

Hope everyone has nice shiny ovens now (I don't!) Did manage to do half an hour in the kitchen to catch up from missing yesterday plus have given bathrooms a good clean and done two loads of laundry. So could be worse. We have people staying this weekend so everything else will be blitzed tomorrow morning.

Fudge I wish I could get close to emptying my laundry basket. It's full of next size up baby clothes at the moment which need washing after being in storage, plus I'll have extra sets of bedding to do as we have visitors again next weekend!

Nelumbo I know what you mean about only managing essentials, this was me when I was at work. Maternity leave us giving me a bit more time at the moment, but I need to get on top of things in the next few months ago I can keep it up one I go back. Your plan sounds good though. Definitely know the feeling about kids cluttering as fast as you can tidy!

Littlechocola · 28/09/2018 18:11

I’ve got nothing done today! We have guests and we’re having a party tomorrow so preparing for that. I need to hoover once I’ve picked up dc.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 28/09/2018 18:27

It's much cleaner than it was, and I can see through the door now. The roof of the oven was really mucky, and it's awkward to clean, so that needs another go. The oven pride was great; the water was foul when I rinsed it 🤢

comeagainforbigfudge · 28/09/2018 20:12

Ah dont be too envious "raspberry" ive just noticed the floordrobe that is my partners side of the bed Hmm
Although until its picked up and put in the basket then i guess its staying unwashed.

I have limits to my cleaning Grin

Sparklyfee · 29/09/2018 10:23

I slacked on the last two days of boot camp. Still got the hallway, bathrooms, utility and playroom to do.

My aim is to have it done by Sunday evening.

Wish me luck

RaspberryBlonde · 29/09/2018 10:25

That's my rule as well fudge, nothing gets washed unless it makes it to the washing basket. My DH also has an extensive floordrobe!

mrsoutnumbered · 29/09/2018 10:35

I cleaned my oven this morning. Used the Astonish paste which is fantastic! Really works and no harsh chemicals at all!

hodgeheg92 · 29/09/2018 11:31

Good work on the oven cleaning! I'm making the most of the nice weather and have done 3 loads of washing this morning (one was cloths/nappies and one was pet bedding so not too much to hang out to dry and put away but still needed doing).

I've done better this week at cleaning one thing in the bathroom every day, really going to try to keep that up.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 29/09/2018 12:26

Which astonish paste do you use? The oven door was pretty hard work and I'd like to keep on top of it. It might also work better on the top of the oven. The oven pride sort of dripped off.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 29/09/2018 12:29

Is it the silver packet?

hodgeheg92 · 29/09/2018 13:46

@ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd I used a blue tub, it's a small rectangular tub called oven and cookware cleaner.

mrsoutnumbered · 29/09/2018 16:07

@hodgeheg92 @ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd

I used the same one - oven and cookware cleaner. I used it with a metal scourer (wire wool?) and the glass was a fiddle to clean.

I also use oven liners which I got off eBay so never have to scrub the bottom - just remove the liner and clean in the sink.

mrsoutnumbered · 29/09/2018 16:08

A fiddle? I mean a doddle!

You can buy it in Poundland I think!

hodgeheg92 · 29/09/2018 16:54

Mine was from pound land and I used a spontex silver (wire maybe?) sponge too.

Easynow · 29/09/2018 16:56

Ive been saying Im in for ages. I must do it Sad

BookishOwl · 01/10/2018 12:06

Right, I really need someone to give me a shove so I get started today. I've emptied dishwasher, made beds, hoovered all before the school run but nothing since then. Need to just bite the bullet and get today's level 2 stuff done (on Monday I do the living room, office and the sofa/tv end of our kitchen...).

Mainly posting to shame myself into getting it done!
