The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Kitchen day would have filled me with dread last week but today I’m going to clean out the fridge and do the table which gets used as a dumping ground.
Dp thinks I’m poorly after seeing that I had cleaned the cleaning cupboard Grin

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 08:56

@GrimSqueaker well done on being assertive! You shouldn’t have to put up with that. We have no neighbours and I’m not sure I could ever go back to living near people! I love to come home from work and not see anyone!

Steala · 20/09/2018 10:23

Kitchen done! It's so lovely when I can complete it before work so it's not hanging over me and I can come home to a gleaming kitchen.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 20/09/2018 11:08

House is quite clean and tidy but I still haven't got round to wiping all the filthy skirting boards, and the fingermarks from the doors & doorframes. Garden is a mess too. Oh well!

ponygirlcurtis · 20/09/2018 12:13

I am on Mumsnet distracting myself from the kitchen as I have said I will start tackling the oven. Don't wanna! 😆

Cherrypi · 20/09/2018 13:56

Didn’t get through all the kitchen list. Oh well next week. Went to Tesco and bought the method rhubarb cleaning spray with is lovely and their almond wood floor cleaner. Never browsed the cleaning aisle before. Made cottage pie for tea in advance too hopefully the kids will eat it.

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 14:11

I’ve been sent to bed with a bug. Dp is making a mess in every room.

FriedEggs1 · 20/09/2018 15:19

Cherrpi I just did the same thing in Morrison's. I felt like a kid in a sweet shop!

My sexy tabard has been used 3 times this week. My DP is excited, not because it's such a fetching item, but because he thinks that delivery men will think we are posh and have a cleaner Grin

Ordered some e-cloths after seeing them mentioned on this thread which are coming tonight. I'm excited Confused. Hope they are better than the Aldi microfibre ones which just move the dust around.

RaspberryBlonde · 20/09/2018 15:20

I may take you up on that Hodgeheg! I find the kitchen only stays tidy until the next meal so it's very demoralising. Having said that I got through quite a bit in the 30 minutes today, including wiping down all the cupboards. Just need to mop after dinner. Avoided cleaning fridge though which is one of my most hated jobs.

Hope you feel better soon littlechocola.

Steala · 20/09/2018 16:15

Rest, littlechocola, forget about the housework and concentrate on being fully fit for your wedding.

TwittleBee · 20/09/2018 18:52

Littlechocola get well soon! Don't worry about the mess! Flowers

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 18:52

@RaspberryBlonde thank you
@Steala I am, I’m a pro at ignoring the housework Wink I’ve purchased everything that I can get my hands on to try to get rid quicker (I know they don’t do much but I’ll have a go).

Ollivander84 · 20/09/2018 18:54

I have no housework to do tonight Shock
I could mop the kitchen floor but it doesn't need doing. I could change the bedding but it was only done 4 days ago. This is unheard of!

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 19:41

@TwittleBee thank you, sorry didn’t see your post.
I snuck down and wiped down the work tops while making a drink. Wink

2slicesoftoast · 20/09/2018 19:52

Disclaimer - my kitchen is tiny. Cleaned in 22 minutes :-)
There has to be some advantages to having no storage space and a floor the size of a yoga mat!
I spent the 8 remaining minutes sipping a cup of coffee looking at my hard work!

wineusuallyhelps · 20/09/2018 20:28

@Ollivander84 what a great feeling!

@Cherrypi those two Method fragrances are my faves! Those and the bathroom watermint one.

Is it tragic to feel so happy that I've already done tomorrow's Friday Focus, except wiping the skirting boards?!

This means I am doing no cleaning till Monday (except the level 1 jobs that I've done for years anyway...can't leave a toilet for more than a day in this house!). Unheard of indeed!

Four weeks in and this method has changed my stress-ridden mindset for the better Smile

hodgeheg92 · 21/09/2018 07:32

wine Definitely not tragic at all! I'm jealous.

Living room focus today, I cleaned the windows on Monday and hoovered under some of the furniture last week so feeling like today will be manageable. Will need to wait for DH to come back from work to move some of the furniture though I think.

comeagainforbigfudge · 21/09/2018 10:56

Went a bit off piste with team tomm 2day, still trying to bootcamp in small steps and not managed much during the week. Spent two hours today though.

So today have:

-Moved two sofas and found a gazillion toys crumbs etc 🙈 but now all swept, hoover, scrubbed then mopped.

  • Then quick clean of bathroom sink - used the pink stuff on some caulk that has been there like forever and ive never managed to get rid of. Its not quite gone but is better, will leave longer next time.
  • Damp dusted living room.
  • Hoovered rest of living room and bathroom
  • bins emptied
  • Scrubbed and mopped bathroom flloor.
  • one wash done, waiting for its shot in tumble dryer.
  • cushion covers in wash now.
  • some clothes put away.
  • beds stripped

Still to wash dishes from last night oops
but im going to go to shops first and get pizzas for dinner and maybe something nice for my lunch.

After another cup of tea.

Ollivander84 · 21/09/2018 11:05

Tonight I'm planning to
Hoover living room and hall
Mop and sweep kitchen floor
Clean bathroom sinks and toilet

Should take about 25 mins, then bedding change and bedroom on Saturday Smile

So much more manageable for me to just do 30 mins, I'm enjoying it

RaspberryBlonde · 21/09/2018 12:53

Hello all. How're you feeling today littlechocola?

Couldn't do the living room focus today as DH is using it to work from home so spent my 30 minutes tackling DD's room. Put away dozens of hair clips plus sneaked out a load of outgrown clothes. Took an extra 5 minutes to hoover as no doubt it will be as bad again by the time bedroom day comes around!

Sounds like you've had a productive morning fudge, can't believe you managed to start so early!

I need to figure out how best to do bathrooms each day, have barely touched them this week, think I'll have to bootcamp them over the weekend and try again next week!

TwittleBee · 21/09/2018 12:58

RaspberryBlonde I am the same with the bathrooms! I struggle to get round to doing them every day.

I shall be tackling the living room after work this evening, as long as DS goes down easily (he hasnt been great at settling past week)

Littlechocola · 21/09/2018 15:34

Loads better thanks RaspberryBlonde. I was up at 05:30 so got on with the front room! I think an early night has helped although doubt I’ll sleep tonight!

wineusuallyhelps · 21/09/2018 17:34

@RaspberryBlonde bathrooms...I have three that need attention each day. This is what I do (obviously start with a bootcamped bathroom first!).

  1. Spray antibac all over the sink and toilet (bath/shower only if visibly dirty). Leave it to work for 5 mins while you do something else.
  2. Quick wipe of mirrors/shower screen with microfibre cloth. Use same cloth to wipe down the sink then the toilet.
  3. Wipe the floor around the toilet because...boys!
  4. Throw all cloths in the wash and be on your way!

This really does take me only five mins for three sinks/toilets because I'm not letting them get too bad in the first place, if you see what I mean.

Once a week I give them all a proper scrub with a scourer.

Hope this helps!

Ollivander84 · 21/09/2018 18:44

Everything done for the night Grin
I got some oil cloth off eBay - I have a white dressing table and the top gets marked with makeup so I've covered it with that and really pleased, cost me about £4

Cherrypi · 21/09/2018 19:47

Well after my first week the house is definitely cleaner. Think I’ve got the first layer of dirt off. Need to do more decluttering. I wonder if I can keep it up.
