The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Grim ah thank you! We usually put a wash on every 2 - 3 days (there's only 3 of us and we have a large machine) so I'll just put the sheets on instead of the usual load!

Least it means you can certainly relax (if that is even possible lol) knowing you are ahead

GrimSqueaker · 18/09/2018 15:48

Load of laundry number 3 in as the kids have come home from school covered in paint and stuff I know will stain if I don't attack it quickly so they've been stripped and it's gone in ready!

TwittleBee · 18/09/2018 16:11

do you have any tips on getting paint out Grim? DS' nursery clothes come back totally stained regularly and I've yet to successful get the paint out (even with vanish)

GrimSqueaker · 18/09/2018 16:41

Fairy liquid and vanish powder scrubbed into the stain together before a wash shifted the blue paint they managed to spill down the front of their school cardigan on the second bloody day of term.

This thread looks great! I shall join you and go back to the beginning of the thread to catch up Smile

Littlechocola · 18/09/2018 17:01

I’m making a mess instead of cleaning today. I’ve got 5 craft projects to finish before Saturday Sad

Littlechocola · 18/09/2018 18:11

Bedroom (only mine, dc do there own) and hallway done! (Hi future friend).
Tomorrow I can concentrate on the spare room/study/snug.

2slicesoftoast · 18/09/2018 19:43

Hey @Ollivander84 How's your mop? I'm tempted to buy one :-)

MissMarplesKnitting · 18/09/2018 19:47

Bedrooms dusted and hoovered, beds changed. Let's not talk about under the beds....

Windy and dry here so managed four loads of washing (2 X bedding, towels and clothes) do feeling much better about that cos it smells so nice off the line.

This method is starting to work for me. The house doesn't seem to get out of control. Yes, I should have bootcamped but with Friday focus days I'll get round to most of the jobs at some point.

HalloumiGus · 18/09/2018 20:37

Well done everyone, you are inspiring me to keep going even when I feel lazy.

I ended up focusing on the kitchen today instead of the bedroom. A few lazy days meant it was getting out of control again so brought it into line! Need to mop the floor later got some nice flash for wood floors.

I don't know what is going on with Zoflora! I was in Asda yesterday passing on way back home and thought I was bound to find Zoflora there but there were only empty cartons! There was a run for it!

Littlechocola · 18/09/2018 21:05

@HalloumiGus I’ll send you some from our little village shop for £25 Grin
I think it’s overrated

AllGoodDogs · 18/09/2018 21:27

Evening all! Got our bedding out on the line after school run this morning, and will do the kids beds next week, ours again the following week and so on.

Been out all day so had a quick whizz round our room while dinner was cooking. We've had a big loft clear out and sorted the kids toys ready to do a car boot next week so it's all piled up in our room with not a lot of space, so will do a proper job once it's all gone!!

I find the daily level one jobs are better done late in the day, washing is the only thing I do first thing in the morning. I hoover all downstairs (only kitchen, hall and sitting room) after I've cleared up from dinner. Bathroom I do once the kids are in bed so no one comes for a poo when I've just put Bleach down the loo.

hodgeheg92 · 19/09/2018 08:28

grim You're misplaced apostrophe comment Grin Stuff like that bugs me too!

Writing on here is keeping me motivated - hallway/stairs and bathroom for me today. I have my mum visiting and I'm not panic cleaning so the method is working!

BookishOwl · 19/09/2018 08:58

It definitely keeps me motivated too, I'm enjoying reading everyone's posts.

Yesterday I did the minimum as feeling under the weather but it still all got done. In-laws arrive today so I'm doing hall/stairs/landing, downstairs loo and utility (my normal Wednesday tasks) then making up the sofa bed for guests, extra clean of the bathroom and - if I have time/energy - getting started on kitchen tasks ahead of tomorrow. Big ambitions!

So far beds done, dishwasher done, laundry on.

RaspberryBlonde · 19/09/2018 09:07

Morning all. I haven't used zoflora in years, had some when I first lived with DH as MIL used to use it. He also bought shake and vac with him!

Beds made and laundry on here. Am hoping to get ahead a bit today as hovered upstairs hall yesterday with bedrooms, although do need to go through shoes and coats. Currently having a coffee while DS hiccups at me, didn't get breakfast pre school run as was busy searching for misplaced uniform for DD!

Littlechocola · 19/09/2018 09:25

I’m definitely finding this thread motivates me and it feels easier to keep on top of the bits that are clean and tidy. I worry that when I go back to work I’ll struggle but hopefully this routine will be second nature by then.
I did the hall yesterday so doing the spare room today. We’re getting married on Saturday and have guests coming next week so it’s distracting me and looking good!

eaglefly · 19/09/2018 12:13

Have been productive today. Could only manage level 1s the precision's days play we hoovered and changed sheets on the weekend. So today I have done 1.5hrs of the living room/dining, 3 main bedrooms, landing, hallway and porch. Including sorting through all the shoes. Feel productive. It's definitely the clearing up and decluttering that is taking time. On top of the laundry too. Just need to iron.

Tomorrow will be kitchen day. As managed to do all this so far will mean will be less stressed end of the week. The DC are away this weekend during the day so me and DH will have to think of how to use the time. Usually it would be cleaning. What shall we do? Am spit between going out and having a nice lunch and visiting Ikea.

TwittleBee · 19/09/2018 12:51

Grim thank you for the tactic on stain removing, tried it last night and appears to work a treat!

Actually managed to get all of today's chores done before dropping DS to MiL prior work! Plus dinner is already made too so only packed lunches needing to be made tonight woop.

wineusuallyhelps · 19/09/2018 13:34

If people aren't finding Zoflora on the shelves, it could be due to the Mrs Hinch effect! Annoying, as I need some more - I only like certain fragrances though. Some aren't so pleasant!

Cherrypi · 19/09/2018 14:20

Used linen zoflora to dust for the first time today. I liked the smell. Managed to clean the grout with a TOMM Facebook group tip of mound spray. Looks amazing. Love how this method gives you permission to stop. Means I can enjoy the rest of my morning guilt free.

RaspberryBlonde · 19/09/2018 18:12

DS had (whispers) a long nap this morning so managed an uninterrupted half hour on the hallway. Also managed to bag up all of DD's old shoes in that time. Just need DH to remove all his old suits from the coat cupboard now and that will be progress!

Not much looking forward to kitchen day tomorrow mind you...

TwittleBee · 19/09/2018 19:44

Love when they have a long nap RaspberryBlonde !

I've managed to do kitchen day today as well as hallway. Snuck it in as DS went to bed an hour early and wasn't sure what else to do.

hodgeheg92 · 20/09/2018 06:15

Benefit of having a baby - I have a wash on already. It's almost worth the 5.30 wake up... (most definitely isn't but every cloud)

Kitchen day is my favourite! I'd swap you for bedroom day Raspberry? Or just the every day bathroom bits cos I can't get into a routine with that.

Cherrypi · 20/09/2018 07:28

Wash on that I loaded last night. Feeling super organised. Not looking forward to kitchen day. My hobs are atrocious.

GrimSqueaker · 20/09/2018 07:55

I found astonish hob cleaner from poundland amazing on my induction hob when I got it - now I'm less precious about making it gleam it just gets antibaced down and then buffed with kitchen roll.

Wash number 1 done of yesterday's clothes and on the airer to dry as it's pissing it down out there. About to put a towel wash on as well - DD1's on the case to put them in the washer drum for me (start 'em early - she goes up and fetches them all off the towel radiator and brings 'em down for me).

I've done most of the kitchen day stuff earlier in the week so I'm going to steam mop the floor again later on, and just wipe down benches and fling the worktop protectors in the dishwasher.

Will run round with the hoover at some point as well as the whole house really needs doing because the plasterers outside the neighbours have left the pavements so covered in crap and dust that it's getting walked into our house - they've also wrecked our render in the process of their work so last night I lost it completely and told the neighbour if it's not sorted out ASAP we will go down the legal route of damage to our property - so life's about to get very uncomfortable around here! (We've put up with endless noise and parties and him telling us what is going to happen for 8 years and I've finally got my assertiveness back a bit)
