The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

I used a shower curtain under the chair for weaning. Wipe on, wipe off.

GrimSqueaker · 17/09/2018 16:52

I used the dog for weaning cleaning purposes.

Led to a relationship of love, adoration, tolerance, cuddles and dropped food to last a childhood.

cows573 · 17/09/2018 17:05

Getting a bit despondent, worked hard all day, did level one jobs, three loads of washing, started tackling kitchen but less than half way round, just scrubbing everything! Not even attempting clutter as yet, just getting the units all clean, hob, oven, chairs and extractor fan!!!

Bobbiepin · 17/09/2018 17:12

@cows573 are you bootcamping? Otherwise just do the daily tasks and you'll catch up to yourself. Whatever doesn't get done in the half hour gets prioritised for next week. You'll get through it all soon enough and the longer you do it the cleaner things are and the less time it takes.

Steala · 17/09/2018 18:39

cows, I felt the same, especially with the kitchen. A few weeks in, I stop after 30 minutes, hold my nerve, trust the method and before I know it, it's kitchen day again. It's so much quicker when you're cleaning one (or two or three) weeks' grime than when you're looking despairingly at a neglected fridge, oven or hob, which takes the whole time slot and all your mental energy by itself.

Littlechocola · 17/09/2018 18:46

I’m shattered!

hodgeheg92 · 17/09/2018 19:33

cows you'll get there, try not to be discouraged and know that you can do different bits next week if needs be.

Thanks for the tips about weaning - I don't mind the microfibre mop and spray but a friend uses a shower curtain. The cat helped clean up tonight because it was tuna fishcakes, she wasn't keen when she accidentally picked up a piece of parsnip though Grin

cows573 · 17/09/2018 20:06

Yes, i am doing boot camp..... My house was so bad that half an hour a day would take to this time next year to get properly clean!!!

HalloumiGus · 17/09/2018 20:18

DH made the bed unprompted this morning and is downstairs tidying and sorting homeworks. I am up in bed eating crisps / MNing / winning at life Grin I will do my fifteen mins later but am feeling lazy!

Littlechocola · 17/09/2018 21:06

I love Gem’s Instagram post today. I think I want to be her.

Steala · 18/09/2018 08:17

1 bed stripped and in the wash, one bed changed, 2 clean sets put out for teenagers who can do it for themselves. Clean sheet Tuesday!

RaspberryBlonde · 18/09/2018 09:12

Hello, is there room for one more?

I was following TOMM a couple of months back and was working fairly well for me, but then my DS was born and it’s all gone to pot a bit! However, he’s now 8 weeks and my older DD is at school so I’m going to attempt to get back on the wagon. I’ve been lurking on the thread but think I probably need some extra motivation!

Really I need to boot camp but realistically don’t have the time so am going to start on the 30 mins alongside some comprehensive tidying and decluttering.

Have managed the strip both beds and make a start on 30 mins in the spare room and DD’s room while DS naps in mine. Just need to sneak him off my lap into the cot....

cows573 · 18/09/2018 09:29

Raspberry blonde, doing anything with a young baby as well as another child, is an achievement in my books! Little and often, but look after yourself too!

Skyejuly · 18/09/2018 09:30

Im struggling this week as all my energy on packing. Must admit the end goal of our new clean house is looking appealing!

hodgeheg92 · 18/09/2018 09:34

Morning! Happy clean sheet Tuesday!

Hello raspberry, I also have a baby but she's 8 months now and not (usually) so needy.

Anyone else find it annoying to have a clean bedroom but an unmade bed because the sheets are in the wash? (we only have one good set, so have to wait for it to dry to put back on)

TwittleBee · 18/09/2018 09:40

Hi there, literally just came across this thread now and looked it up!

Do you all actually find you have enough time every day to get in 30 minutes of housework plus all the every day stuff too? Swear that is like an hour of cleaning 5 days a week? Or am I missing something lol! Please tell me your ways.

Currently we so most of the daily tasks daily but then Sunday is the big cleaning day (usually spend about an hour in total).

I do like the sound of being more structured though, I feel like it will help DH know what to do to help out.

Steala · 18/09/2018 10:06

Twittie, I tend to set a 30 min timer on my phone and do 5-10 minute blasts when I can eg before school run, while pasta boiling, while bath running etc. When the timer stops, so do I.

GrimSqueaker · 18/09/2018 11:59

I'm struggling today -normally I'm very on top of things before the kids leave for school but DD2's started a new speech therapy regime so I've got that, plus her handwriting intervention work to do before the school run which takes a chunk of time up. Can't NOT do it - with the amount we're paying for private SALT I'm doing my damnedest to make sure we get the maximum benefit from each session!

Littlechocola · 18/09/2018 12:20

Grim sounds like you have a busy morning! That’s definitely top priority.

GrimSqueaker · 18/09/2018 13:08

I'm caught up now - load of bedding in the washer now, morning normal laundry on the line (unless the wind's sent it three streets down by now), bedrooms hoovered and one cleaned (I do the other one on hall and stairs day) and I've also done the kitchen in advance of that day as I was in there stirring a pan on the hob anyway. Proper "kitchen" day and I'll just clean off the sink and hob AGAIN and steam mop the floor.

TwittleBee · 18/09/2018 13:15

Steala oh but I know I would never stick to that if I havent finished something. I think my issue is I just constantly see stuff that needs to be done so I guess I always feel busy! But with this structure I shouldnt be doing anything outside of the allocated time so should be less busy?

oh well done Grim for catching up and doing bit extra!

So bed sheets getting washed doesnt count as the usual laundry load for the day then on Tuesdays?

Ollivander84 · 18/09/2018 13:27

My new spray mop is here!!

RaspberryBlonde · 18/09/2018 14:00

Managed 18 minutes this morning before DS woke up.i think I must be very slow at making beds although I did spend 5 minutes getting DD's warmer duvet down. I will be in trouble as the sheets now on her bed are not her favourite.

Bedding is drying on the line and just about to hang out another load while it's breezy. Then will be time for school run.

I'm not sure 8 months is much easier Hodgeheg, I have vague memories of never being able to turn my back at that age!

I love my spray mop Ollivander it's much more effective than a standard one although nothing gets my kitchen floor properly clean as we have annoying textured tiles.

GrimSqueaker · 18/09/2018 14:19

So bed sheets getting washed doesnt count as the usual laundry load for the day then on Tuesdays?

I just have always put a load of washing on on a morning (I have no willpower to put away a huge basket of washing - but one day's worth of clean stuff I actually DO do) - usually it's just kids' clothes so it's a quick wash and out on the line before we leave for school jobbie.

Adult bed bedding I do on a proper long 60 wash so it takes an age and we have two duvets on our bed (or I'd murder DH) so I have a double lot to wash and dry.

We've got the kitchen tile texture thing going on as well Raspberry annoying as hell to get them clean (and to be honest - life's too short for me to be out with a scrubbing brush every week so I just steam mop them and consider it "clean dirt"

I'm only doing extra as the arsehole neighbour is getting the render stripped off his house so they're drilling away behind it and the noise is so bad I can't hear myself think to watch TV or anything. Figure I'm buying myself time to sit on my arse when they've sodded off with their van with a misplaced apostrophe later in the week and the drilling stops.

BookishOwl · 18/09/2018 14:51

I definitely count bedding as today's load of laundry. Or actually loads, as it takes 2-3 loads to get all the bedding clean.

Behind today, the bedding is clean and dry but not made the beds, tidied, dusted or hoovered yet. Planning to do that tonight once they're back from school.
