The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

I've just done the sitting room, with the playlist. I can see out of the windows again! I'd hoped to have some time to make a start on the playroom, but I ran out of time. That room needs a bootcamp all of it's own. Sad

Thanks for this thread! I saw The Organised Housewife method on Facebook and almost paid the £100 for it but this looks very similar.

knockknockknock · 03/09/2018 09:09

@outnumbered77 The beauty with the plan is that it's very flexible. It's supposed to be broken into two levels but I find that I can often do parts of level one whilst preparing breakfast etc as I'll be using the cordless Dyson whilst waiting for the kettle to boil.

Having a list of jobs seems to really focus me.

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 03/09/2018 09:20

Wow I can't believe all the responses whilst I have been asleep/waking up! I am not a 'morning' person, it takes me at least 2 coffees before I am me Grin

So good morning!! Coffee kicking in!!

Beds made.

Glad it's living room today as mine is fairly tidy!

Need to pop into work for a training course for a couple of hours and also need to get ready for kids going back to school tomorrow!

No laundry to do so will wash my winter coat so it's nice and fresh for when the weather changes!

Made a note to check out the playlist! Loving this thread, feel very motivated by it.

Oh and I also won't be buying anything just yet - had a browse on amazon last night at some of the products I had seen on the Facebook page. I have three cupboards full of cleaning products (I have issues with 'running' out of something so always buy loads in advance Blush). It's my aim to use most of it up before I buy anything more.

The only thing I will be treating myself to is an e cloth for glass/mirrors as it's something I have never mastered. I always have streaky mirrors.

My rule is that all everyday cleaning products have to fit in one bucket. I have loads of random bits I don't use, and stuff I've bought in bulk when it's on offer that's all in a different cupboard, but I'm not getting more than I can carry in one hand.

firehousedog1 · 03/09/2018 09:50

I've found my go to cleaning products and now resist temptation to be lured into trying new products just because someone is raving about it on instagram or fb. I used to have cleaning products falling out the cupboard. It was really quite bad actually.

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/09/2018 09:56

I did this for a while, then went on strike because no one was helping me so stopped but I'm going to start up again today!

cinnabarmoth · 03/09/2018 10:20

I started this 2 weeks ago and lasted for 2 days Hmm but will definitely start again on Weds when my daughter goes back to school. I didn't do the bootcamp though I probably need to, I found that the daily 15 minutes took rather longer than that but I think once I am in the swing of it i will be quicker!

AwdBovril · 03/09/2018 10:23

Which FB group is the right one - I can only see an open group, I assume it's not the same group as @Zofloramummy mentioned?

moreofaslummythanyummy · 03/09/2018 10:25

I love the idea of this but not sure where I'll find the 45 minutes every day. I work every minute the kids are out at school. Will have to try and do something though.

I am pretty sure she has a YouTube video about this. Look her up there are some really useful videos and recipes there Smile
Also you need to follow her on Instagram she isn't your usual "instamum" she is hilarious and so down to earth !

moreofaslummythanyummy · 03/09/2018 10:28

I found that the daily 15 minutes took rather longer than that but I think once I am in the swing of it i will be quicker!

I currently do 15 mins upstairs, 15 mins downstairs for Level one , I am hoping it gets quicker the longer I do it .Smile

Lurkacus · 03/09/2018 11:28

Hi I'm in. So today is living room. Mine needs a quick tidy then I'm going to do all the level one jobs. From tomorrow I'm going to try and incorporate the level one jobs into my morning routine, or as soon as I get back from the school run.

Skyejuly · 03/09/2018 11:31

Started living room. Will finish when DD naps.

scrolling123 · 03/09/2018 11:34

Oh I will jump on this please! X

KaiserThiefs · 03/09/2018 11:35

I'm completely changing adapting this method for the next 3 days. I start a new job on Thursday so want to do a manic clear out so that the decks will be clear for TOMM from then on.

So, today I'm going to tackle the kitchen, sitting room and try and declutter some of the summer holiday madness (found a keyring in the fridge and a digger in the sink this morning...this chaos cannot end soon enough!)

BookishOwl · 03/09/2018 11:43

Count me in!

I've been doing this for a while though it's been tricky with all the kids off school. Hoping to get back to it properly this week.

I've combined extra rooms, so do the office today with the living room and do the utility room on Wednesday with the hall and stairs. Office all finished today, about to tackle the messy in the living room but have to turf the kids out of there first Smile

comeagainforbigfudge · 03/09/2018 11:43

Im going to do this as well. My home just feels filthy all the time Sad its not really that bad in the grand scheme of things i suppose but it makes me feel miserable and i just end up ignoring it in hopes it will sort itself story of my life

Im studying as well at the moment so there's always something that feels more important, or i feel guilty for not studying, vicious circle really.

I'm in the middle of gutting the kitchen as it badly needs done. Then will "bootcamp" rest of flat this week, before printing the checklist off. Wonder if i can get it laminated?

Lurkacus · 03/09/2018 11:52

I'm having to take a break already! Full of a cold and a weak lower back.

My quick tidy of the living room grew arms and legs. But, in twenty mins I have taken all the toys out of the living room. Dusted the windowsill, pulled out tv unit and swept behind it, dusted tv unit and polished tv, dusted sideboard, culled the magazines. Pulled out and swept behind to sofas and wiped up some spills that had leaked under the sofa! Back to it in a minute.

Lurkacus · 03/09/2018 12:23

Had to take another quick break but that's the living room done! And the high traffic areas swept from level one.
So a laundry load, quick bathroom wipe and make beds is left to do? Have I got that right?

welshmist · 03/09/2018 12:33

Please be kind to yourselves, school holidays are always a deal breaker where cleaning is concerned. OH took the children away for a week once, the whole house was decluttered and spotless when they came home.

mrsoutnumbered · 03/09/2018 12:49

@Lurkacus I think so! Well done!

Gammeldragz · 03/09/2018 13:25

Read the thread and now considering this. Want to involve the rest of the family though as I'm thinking they really should be contributing... I think I need to bootcamp first but it may have to be done over random days as I've just gone back to uni after my 3 week holiday. Definitely agree that having studying to do doesn't help as there's always something needs doing!

mrsoutnumbered · 03/09/2018 13:32

I'm looking forward to clearing a lot of stuff when the kids are back at school - all the delightful creations made with yogurt pots and cereal boxes (which have been on display since the end of July) will be put in the bin put away for safekeeping.

Bobbiepin · 03/09/2018 14:41

Living room is done, even used some hob brite to polish up the window frames. There's a wash on the line (washing every day is bound to be my weak spot), bed is made and bathroom sink is sparkling. I currently have my DD's comforter shoved down my bra as that finally made it to the wash and needs to smell right by the time she's back from nursery.
