The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Re hoovering, I intend to do one room per day. We have an open plan kitchen/diner and our living room and bedroom are next to each other on one floor of the house so when I do the kitchen I’ll do the dining room and when I do the living room I’ll do the bedroom and vice versa. So they’ll get done twice a week. The other rooms once a week in their day. I’m hoping that’ll mean I won’t take a million hours on doing one full floor or the whole house!

WhispersOfWickedness · 03/09/2018 19:44

Thank you zoflora Smile
Also, I have tried searching on Spotify for the playlists, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Auntpetunia2015 · 03/09/2018 19:46

I’ve been doing this all summer as the house I put the house on the market in August so it’s great for knowing I’m always show home ready. Love it

Ollivander84 · 03/09/2018 19:53

I've started. Having to do different days as I work odd shifts!
Today I actually did the bedroom and en suite but left the hoovering - my hallway is tiny so I'm going to hoover bedrooms and hallway tomorrow

foreverblessedbee · 03/09/2018 19:58

Hello ladies... I wondered if I could join? I've only read first page of thread but his looks perfect for me!!! I have many aDD tendencies but at 43 I'm never gonna get a diagnosis. However with 3 boys, a husband and a dog and absolutely zero organisational skills I could do with any help possible! I'm hoping this has come just at the right time for me as my youngest starts full time school next week and I will be climbing the walls trying to have a good sort out! Organisation and lists are what I'm hoping for. Haven't googled the site the op mentioned yet but when I get a minute later gonna do some serious googling xxx

WooYa · 03/09/2018 19:59

@WhispersOfWickedness search for theorganisedmum on Spotify Grin

doleritedinosaur · 03/09/2018 20:14

I did it!
Surfaces polished, hoovered living room & stairs as don’t have a hallway & tidied the toy areas.
Also watered the plants.
I’ve even managed to sort most my bureau out.

I always managed to do tomorrow’s as I’ve got the storage sorted in the bedrooms so can change beds, dust & hoover upstairs.

It’s just kitchen I can’t do in half a hour but I’m hoping if I deep clean it once it’s done.

Skyejuly · 03/09/2018 20:14

Ive printed out the lists x

Woooo day one of bootcamp done! I'm now sitting in a completely clutter free and clean living room. Although to be fair this was the one room I kept fairly tidy so I did manage to get the full bootcamp done in about 35-40 mins which wasn't too bad. And the suites only a month old so there weren't too many crumbs hiding under the cushions yet Grin

Also got a head start on tomorrows bedrooms bootcamp, stripped all the beds this morning and got them dried tonight. I think I might have to add the kids bedroom onto the hall & stairs night as doing both bedrooms seems like a lot in comparison to a tiny hall but we'll see.

Think I may be the first victim of a shiny new purchase on this thread Blush ordered a cordless dyson! The henry is sooo bulky and annoying, due to plugs I can only reach the top three stairs and I figure if I'm going to vacuum every day I may aswell invest the money on making it as easy as possible! That, and we have a puppy coming in 10 days, a long haired molter 😂

I am determined to stick at this, hopefully this thread will spur us all on!

noobs18 · 03/09/2018 21:09

Well I managed the 15 minute jobs but didn't get anything done in the lounge due to ds completely skipping his afternoon nap! Think I need to aim to do it in the morning so if something goes wrong I have another chance in the afternoon

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 03/09/2018 21:18

I have three hoovers so am hoping this doesn't spur me on for more Blush

Have a big heavy duty dyson downstairs, a smaller one which does the two floors with the bedrooms on (we have a lovely loft conversion) then a battery powered makita hoover which can be used normally or as a hand held. My big dyson was almost sent to hoover heaven last year as it blew up but clever DH replaced some parts and it's better than ever.

I do love a good hoover Grin

Thank you wooya, I thought I'd searched for that but obviously not Blush

Polkapjs · 03/09/2018 21:58

I learned to buy birthday cards ahead and a few other things but I’m still struggling and found that a few people are so organised it overwhelmed me being totally honest. I’m looking forward to this a lot

hodgeheg92 · 03/09/2018 22:11

I absolutely love TOMM! I also struggled with my mental health whenever the house was looking a bit rubbish and would stress clean all of it in a weekend and then feel rubbish that I'd wasted a weekend. I've been following it for a few months now and my DH noted that the house is cleaner and tidier than it has ever been. (Disclaimer: I am on maternity leave so in some ways have more motivation to keep it clean cos I spend so much time here, although I probably have less spare time than before!)

I use an app called Wunderlist for the jobs each day, rather than a printout, and my DH has the app too. I did this because I don't follow the method exactly (have different rooms/expectations) and it allows me to tick things off but see them again the following week. It also means that my husband can see what needs doing, although the novelty wore off quite quickly for him! Hmm

WhispersOfWickedness · 03/09/2018 22:28

Thank you hodgeheg, will have a look at that app Smile

Missanneshirley · 03/09/2018 22:45

Can I ask what you all do if you "miss" a day? Just add it onto the next day? Days like today are the reason I never get it off the ground- i only got home at 9:30, had to settle kids to bed etc, it's now almost 11pm and I really don't feel like doing whatever the Monday job is!!

HalloumiGus · 03/09/2018 23:27

Urgh I think I unfortunately need a month long boot camp before the weekly routine which is where I always fall down. I am considering just tipping all the random shit into one room so everything else can be clean and tidy.

I will also end up buying a Dyson cordless. I really wanted one and stupidly let DH talk me into a Henry which is powerful but such a pain in the ass I never use it. I think the Dyson will keep me motivated!

Ollivander84 · 03/09/2018 23:33

Tomorrow I have to
Hoover hallway and bedroom
Clean hallway surfaces/unit
Clean hallway mirror and photo frames
Tidy shoe rack
Main bathroom if time

Out of order because I work Tuesday nights and Sundays

Wednesday for me is nothing as I work late then do an exercise class

Thursday is kitchen

Friday is living room

And then I'm all done for the weekend Grin

Belindablinks · 03/09/2018 23:52

Joining too, will start boot camp tomorrow! I feel overwhelmed and anxious every time I think of all the jobs that need doing around the house, I suffer from GAD and am finding that I'm worrying so much about the sheer amount of housework that needs doing that I'm actually doing none of it. Praying this method will work for me.

AdventuresRUs · 04/09/2018 01:49

Belinda that's exactly what happens to me.

hodgeheg92 · 04/09/2018 06:18

missanne Part of the appeal for me is that it doesn't matter so much if you miss a room one week when you have been following the method for a while. I have stopped feeling guilty on those days where I just don't get it done because I look around and it doesn't look half bad anyway, especially if you can find the time to do a quick tidy up if nothing else. Alternatively, there are days that are quicker, like the hallway day, so you could add another room onto that (at least partly anyway).

Most importantly, don't beat yourself up about it, you're doing the best you can and that room will come back round again on the plan x

WooYa · 04/09/2018 07:27

There's a Team TOMM app being made too!
Gem (The Organised Mum) put an Instagram story on saying she hopes thread is being kind Grin

Calphurnia · 04/09/2018 07:32

Can I tentatively join? I do Project Work, so my days are different every week. I can commit to doing'something' each day but it won't be Mondays x, Tuesdays y

I could do with being accountable externally though Grin

FreerOfIcefyre · 04/09/2018 07:55

I have been on team TOMM website over summer, I don't know how I stumbled across it.

I am starting tomorrow as the children are back to school then. My house was immaculate before going on holiday and has slipped a bit over the last few days on our return

I think Gem's videos of her doing her housework are inspiring. She is the type of person I would love to be friends with. I loved her Christmas video where she wears different Christmas headbands. Grin

I already have a laundry schedule that works really well but my housework is more ad-hoc due to a medical condition which causes fatigue. So depending on how tired I am depends on how much gets done.

hodgeheg92 · 04/09/2018 08:20

Clean sheet Tuesday has begun! I put the little one's bedding in the machine last night, with a load of white clothes and set that off when I first got up. Technically, I guess she had clean sheets on Monday but it means I'm half way done with the washing. Bonus being that it's raining so I can stick it all in the dryer (so much quicker than pegging everything out).

I often do clean sheets every other Tuesday to save time but I think I'll get them all done today, fingers crossed!

How's everyone doing?
