If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2018 13:29

Moths and carpet beetle are becoming increasing problems due to much more natural fibre content in clothes. If you freeze the wool before storing (3weeks plus) it kills off any eggs and helps to keep the wool in good order/less likely to get damaged by moths (it is also stored in plastic bags with just the smallest holes for atmosphere balancing.
Not mad promise. Grin

hills that was a lot of excitement for a Monday!

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 15:23

So... house is ours from June 18th if we want it!!! 😱 Haven’t seen it inside, but DH and I sneakily wandered up after the council meeting to take a look 😳. Lovely area. It does look small. Hazard of new builds. But. I think it is very unlikely we would turn it down. We are just waiting to hear from the housing association to arrange a proper viewing.

Otherwise a totally unproductive day, I feel like a zombie.

Lisette40 · 04/06/2018 15:28

A change is as good as a rest Cag. I love making a new place a home.

Lisette40 · 04/06/2018 15:30

Well done Giggage. You even fitted in a tip run.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 04/06/2018 15:50

So exciting cag Is it 3 beds?

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 16:04

Yup we are only eligible for 3 beds. This one has 2 doubles and one single, the girls will share the biggest double (eventually - baby will be in with us for at least another year I think)

Just going to spend the next few days willing the phone to ring so we can arrange to go and see it!

I can’t relax at all! Super tense!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2018 16:21

Not bloody surprised you are tenes cag just try to relax as muh as you can though as stress is a flare trigger and right now a flare is not needed. Hopefully that call comes soon!

Speaking of calls, I have not heard anything about my car and its MOT. That might partly be due to no power =no phone Blush I am going to get tea started and will give them a ring shortly as the garage shuts at 5pm and I could do with my car tomo, or just to know in advance that I will need plans to take the bus to work tomo.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/06/2018 18:02

Bowerbird5 · 04/06/2018 19:01

Crikey I go to work and you lot have filled nearly three pages.

I was up early due to noise outside asI jumped out of bed and thought I would have to move my car. there was a road closed sign on my road on Sunday morning (i'm sure there was) but when i jumped up and went out in PJs and a coat there was no one to be seen and no sign.Wonder if I was dreaming as they had a sign up for weeks and kept changing the date. When they finally came the date was wrong! So I did a few jobs and wander around the garden.

TA DAs
kitchen
recycling washed.
dishwasher emptied
tidied around a bit.

pottered around garden and made PLANS.

Had breakfast and watched gardening programme...then flew about getting ready. Was in work 10 mins early Grin

PM
Bought pie for tea as needed to be home quick.
Organised flowers for DD birthday.
Had cuppa in the garden as it suddenly came out sunny that is the fourth lot of fresh air I have had today.
Put canes in for tomatoes as they are growing fast. Put canes in for beans but will need to sew some more as some haven't come up.
Emptied bags of garden rubbish into compost bin.

Discovered DH has put old toys on top of the courgette bins. The courgette seeds are ready to go out.Hope Wednesday is dry as I need to sort that, buy compost tidy that corner.Plant out snap dragons.

Tea is pie and a potato because I haven't got time for other veg and no peas. Not very healthy.
Quiz tonight and have a bit of school work to do. Must take colouring pencils.

Oh and I won a prize in a raffle the other day. I never win raffle prizes.

Cags great news about the house remember location , location. I hope it is also big enough. Ours was a bit small as it is a cottage but we love where it is and our kids were outside as much as they could be.

Crikey Hills far too much excitement for a Monday.

Flaps to everyone else.
Henny Penny laid me an egg then when I let her out she got into the kitchen (squeezed though 6" gap of door) and shat on my clean floor! Shock

Bowerbird5 · 04/06/2018 19:01

Bloody hell it is 7pm! Very slow typist.

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 19:15

😱 naughty 🐓

Basically as long as the kitchen is bigger (mainly more counter space as we literally don’t even have room for a chopping board without it hanging over the edge... I permanently risk flinging chopped onion at myself if I lean in the wrong place) and the living room is bigger, we will be ok. And if there are three bedrooms upstairs rather than our two, it really should be ok. I’m just in a flap because I DON’T KNOW and being in limbo is making me grumpy.

I was saying to DH earlier that even though we know much more than we have for the last year - where and when we are moving, which is the most important thing - I also now feel like we know even less, because I’m thinking of all the little details that I want to know in order to make plans

HonkyWonkWoman · 04/06/2018 19:19

Was a bit too ambitious with my To Do list this morning so
tidying under stairs storage space and decluttering the garage will have to be forwarded to tomorrow!
Had extras though, Dd rang and asked me to pick up Dgs9 from school as they were short staffed and also take him to his Guitar Lesson.
Best job of the week! His music teacher, Guy or Rock God as I mentally refer to him, is quite a dish.😄

HonkyWonkWoman · 04/06/2018 19:22

Awww! So glad you have the offer of the house. The good area is a main plus and I'm sure you'll make it a lovely home! 😀

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2018 19:22

ta da
get tip stuff removed from house and gone (delegated the going)
get charity shop stuff (6 huge bags of the stuff) gone (again delegated the going)
cast on 2 pairs of socks in the name of decluttering what? it's a valid way of decluttering yarn from stash Grin
tame the tired teenager who was faced with coming home to no internet and all the washing up having been removed from his room
Talk nicely to the washing machine that is not having a good day with all the power cuts whilst it is trying to run.
Sort2 different teas for tonight and put tomo's in the slow cooker
fall out about allergy management and cross contamination with a person
collect car from garage
fall out with ds about not having got around to cleaning the toilet - he got pissed off and did it himself
asked ds for access to his room to put laundry away - he denied it but put his away himself to his standards not mine but hey ho

to do
collect recycling and put out
curl up in bed with hot water bottle whilst slow cooker works its magic
fall asleep for a semi early night.

Giggage · 04/06/2018 19:31

Evening.

Hills, that is too much for one day. If anything goes wrong with the electrics I have a mass panic, same with the car too. Hope you got it back and nothing needs doing.

Cag, well done on the house. Can I suggest you visit the areas on different days at different times, so that you can get a proper feel about the area and have a higher chance of catching potential problems with neighbours before it's too late?

Ta-Dahs continued:

2 washing loads
1 dried and put away
Dinner made
Cats fed
Litter cleaned
Dishwasher on
Kids fed

Walked dog

To do

Dry last load and put away

Drink pint of water
Check cat litter again.
