June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Hi all
Thanks for good wishes. 1st day was training - all good - but I am SHATTERED.

hills I am another wool-in-the-freezer girl. When I was unpacking my knitting yarn when we moved in, I found a ball SWARMING with moth larvae - ewwwwwww. I chucked what they'd touched and froze everything else - only for 3 days though - maybe I should put it all back in the freezer?
cag it will SURELY be bigger if there are 2 double beds and a single? It sounds lovely.

Done:
started hoovering our room

To do:
finish tidying our room
finish hoovering our room
change sheets
drink wine in relaxing bath
organise outfit for tomorrow

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2018 20:50

Advice is a bit variable on how long in the freezer. I tend to do 3 weeks because that works with dust mites too and I tend to forget it in an out of mind out of sight kinda thing I think if you are concerned about possible reinfestation it might be worth freezing for longer if you are able. We are planning to bug bomb the house fumigate potentially but then we have issues with silver fish and carpet beetle periodically and that is harder to resolve with just freezing.

Going to be honest glad today is starting to calm down a bit. Been a bit mad here.

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 21:10

ta da
✅met with council
✅taekwondo
✅decent amount of walking
✅arranged sports club for tomorrow
✅Googled lots and found floor plans for the new house!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2018 21:12

cag and? does it help put your mind at ease a bit?

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 21:15

Oh and
✅phone Asda and rearrange for them to collect the spare bed... again 🙄

DH rearranged the fridge which took pressure off the front and seems to have stopped it popping open. It’s sort of the landlords fridge. Basically when the original stopped working we replaced it. So will be leaving it here. CBA to think about that right now though.

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 21:20

Ta daaaa

I am only good at weird theoretical maths and don’t have a scooby what those numbers actually translate to in terms of room size.

That looks like a lovely little house cag. There are lots of built in storage spaces - and those big french doors at the back will make the living room very light. It's not huge, but from your description of your current kitchen work space it looks like it will be an improvement?

If you ;like it you can start searching organised pantries and cupboards on pinterest...

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/06/2018 22:07

If sink is scale you have more surface space than I do.loads lovely storage space, french windows for lots light and fresh air when it's hot anfanddownstairs lav!!

Just watch last episode of gone with dd2
Cliff hanger end if series,no guarantee of new season.dd2 is hyper and I am not awake enough to feel calm n patient...

Baby step no. 5 for Tues June 5th is here. Banish negative voices from your head!

The Flylady website has finally updated itself! Fyi the June zones look like this.

From 3-9 June we are in Zone 2 the kitchen. Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 2, here is the detailed cleaning list for the kitchen.

Tuesday's mission is: here. Clean kitchen rubbish bin(s).

Tuesday's daily focus is: planning. Menus, holidays, med appts, meal plans.

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

I was about to say it's not the size but what you do with it but thought better of it Grin Blush

Seriously cag, people live in big houses crammed with stuff. I'd rather have smaller but well designed with minimal stuff.

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 22:34

I dunno lisette I did get myself into giggles with friends earlier as I kept talking about width versus length and which was more important 😳😳😳

I am very excited about the prospect of French windows tbh. More light getting in would be amazing, our living room here is always dark.

I found a floor plan of a house very similar to ours, except our kitchen is much narrower. All I’m asking for is more space than that, TBH.

Lisette40 · 04/06/2018 22:39

GrinShock

The French doors will really connect you to the garden. Really lovely.

Lisette40 · 04/06/2018 22:40

Second one is missing a downstairs loo and the stairs are in the living room.

carbonella · 04/06/2018 22:45

cag it is DEFINITELY more space - your new house has 2 doubles upstairs plus a single, so it HAS to be bigger.
You can make your new under stairs cupbard like this:
under stairs

GoingGoingGoth · 04/06/2018 22:51

Cag I love French doors, we had some in a previous house. Really opens up the room.

Back from being AWOL - maybe my first babystep should be logging in each day

Ta-dah
Breakfast
Cat fed
Laundry on
Swish & swipe
DD to school
Met friend of train, took her to hospital appointment, then out for breakfast & finally dropped her back at the train station
Packed orders
Then had a nap - this heat is really wearing me down - had bugger all sleep last night
Collected DD
Posting
Dinner
Washing up

In all day tomorrow waiting for electrician - our shower is broken so plan to bleugh then.

Now off to see if I can get some sleep before DH starts snoring

Cagliostro · 04/06/2018 23:03

Thanks for the thoughts everyone 💐

Right, back to term time tomorrow. I feel totally unmotivated TBH. I don’t deal with uncertainty very well even for minor things (ASD) so this is consuming my entire brain ATM 🙄😳

Thankfully DH is planning to get them into an English workbook first thing and we are ready to start with a proper textbook for history (year 5-6 vikings, with workbook alongside). Also DS has been reading a maths adventure book thing at bedtime so I’ve said we will do that properly. Hoping that having some structure provided by the books will help me get back into the swing of it, as I really can’t risk messing it up now when it was going so so well before half term. We are out in the morning (don’t usually go to the Tuesday sports club but a friend is trying it out so we can have a catch up) so absolutely must crack on once we are home.

I’ve bought oven pizza for dinner as I know I’ll be knackered after tap (which incidentally is within walking distance of the new house, rather than over an hour on buses!).

I have done no laundry today though 😭

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/06/2018 04:56

Morning.

Scoopofchaff · 05/06/2018 05:40

Good morning all!

Sorry, can't keep up with thread ATM (visitors) but hope everyone ok and will catch up when I can.

I don’t really know, lots of things but my brain will not work, I’ll make a list after the school run Grin

firehousedog · 05/06/2018 07:47

Morning all,

I didn't actually come back and write my list yesterday Blush I did manage to:

two loads of laundry
cleaned both bathrooms
done weekly grocery shop
general tidy up
cooked tea
washed dishes
bathed the boys

Today I need to give run the hoover through the entire house. School run first though.

firehousedog · 05/06/2018 07:53

Is it ok If i don't actually follow the flylady routine but just write down what i need to get done and tick them off as I go and just join in the chit chat along the way? I sort of have it in my head what needs doing and I have my own lil routine for it all. I'm not very good at following guides either Grin

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 05/06/2018 08:16
