June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

And with all good stories of the past, I now feel fucking old. Like gone past the hills old Hmm

Cagliostro · 03/06/2018 17:34

How DID the fat fairy thing come about?

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/06/2018 17:36

A former(?) fledgling had a dream and in the dream the fly lady took the form of a fat fairy. I am sure there was a bit more to it but I don't remember all the details anymore. There are others about who might remember and correct me.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/06/2018 17:36

You know it is bad when you are dreaming about flying....

Giggage · 03/06/2018 20:47

Evening everyone,

I've been on and off MN for quite a few years now but was wondering if I could join in this thread please?

Reason being, I've been so busy with my studies over the past few years, the house is in such a state, it's shameful and I need a thread like this to give me a kick up the backside to start getting the house and myself in order before I start working long hours again.

I've been following along with you all on and off but hope to make it a more regular thing while I take a short break.

Like an idiot I managed to download the FLYlady app a couple of years ago and it was brilliant, but have since deleted it and now it's only available for the US. Typical. However, I have downloaded another app which is similar, but you have to fill in your own tasks and unlike the FLY app, it's not organised into zones.

Giggage · 03/06/2018 20:59

As a quick addition,

I have also been trying to keep on top of my email inbox as part of this. For some reason, I do feel better mentally if my email accounts are clear and organised too.

Does anybody else feel the same way?

Cagliostro · 03/06/2018 21:04

I wouldn’t know, I’ve never had an organised email inbox 😳😂

Welcome! 💐

Spending a nice evening watching BGT final, I’ve not watched any of the rest this year but enjoying this.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 03/06/2018 21:05

Welcome Giggage Smile. I struggle with keeping emails decluttered and don’t know what the answer is Sad. Work emails in particular are just constant and since I am part time I never seem to have the time to get them organised (although I’m sure full timers feel the same). Home emails pretty bad too Confused. I have the home routines app which I like as it comes with some preset tasks on it, is divided into zones (which I ignore partly because they are slightly different from the Flylady zones) but you can also customise it.

Scoopofchaff · 03/06/2018 22:07

Great to have you with us Giggage!

Oh I'm really sorry to hear that some people found our fledglings thread too cliquey as, speaking as one of the old-timers, we always tried our best to be welcoming to newcomers but I guess we can come across like that being very long-running and all .... .

I think it was the fabulous PA who coined the name "Fat Fairy" Grin

Frankly, I am happy if I manage to keep my in-box down to 700 messages! Blush I was hoping that GDPR legislation would reduce the amount of crap arriving in there but ... nope... just the same amount as ever!

It's been a busy and fairly stressful weekend for various weekends, so will catch up with everyone properly over the next few days!

Hope everyone had a good w/e though!

Links for tomorrow coming up!

Baby step no. 4 for Mon June 4th is here. An ignorable one about writing post it notes to yourself about previous steps.

We will be in Zone 2 this week the kitchen. Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 2, here is the detailed cleaning list for the kitchen.

Monday's mission is: here. Scrub down your counter tops.

Monday's daily focus is: the home blessing hour or what we call the home bleugh. Spent 10 mins on each of 7 essential tasks. Newcomers: very few of us can get it finished in that time, especially bed-making. But the theory is that the more you declutter, the speedier the cleaning.

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Cagliostro · 03/06/2018 23:14

Fridge door seal broken. Marvellous. Far too tired to deal with it so have just got rid of some too-warm meat

FML

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/06/2018 23:15

Nah not PA it was Nettie GrinGrin

We have always tried to be welcoming, but you know what it was like for a while around mn. Quiches coming out of peoples ears. So i actually think it was more assumption than reality, especially as we gained a number of members from that particular thread. Part of me wonders if it was set up with the poster who took offence when I challenged them for walking into the thread and trying to tell us we were doing it all wrong. But tbh I have slept since then and if it was or was not the same person is hard to recall accurately these days.

I have appear to have a sherbert straw addiction. I bought the bag of the damn things for bribing ds. Blush

Lisette40 · 04/06/2018 00:20

gig on Android there's an app called cleaning organizer which has zones and all tasks included including daily and weekly tasks. It's based on Flylady.

Had guests so trudging back to routines. Slipped a little. Zone 2 this week.

Hope today runs smoothly cag,or at least doesn't stress you out too badly.hope you get to see your shiny new home very soon!!

I have had a second night of rubbish sleeping...not helped by cheeky kitten hiding in kitchen then causing havoc at 1am,then mewing pathetically at my door hopeful if wet meat at 3am.needless to say she was told quite firmly without me moving/opening the door that it's not morning and I'm not feeding you yet (not as politely as thatGrin)

Scoopofchaff · 04/06/2018 06:33

I was up until 3 am because I went to bed and woke up with pounding heart and had some sort of wierd panic attack Confused. I used to have panic attacks years ago but not like this one! Wierd! Like the room was closing in; I put it down to my age Grin
