If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/06/2018 21:33

StarStarStarStar Hills Smile.

Difficult work day 1 of 3 done. Unfortunately I have just wasted an hour or so this evening faffing on the internet. Have allowed myself to look at other threads on MN and I think I will go back to just being on this one. Otherwise I waste so much time. Just spent 10 minutes reading a thread on teenagers helping in the house. My eldest child is 7!! While reading that I could have been sorting my own house out!

Don’t have things ready for tomorrow but am quite tired and have a long 2 days ahead of me. DH has already sat down as he also has a long two days with me doing the extra hours. So I am going to abandon the day, sit and watch telly and crawl out of bed get up bright and early tomorrow and get things together then.

Cagliostro · 20/06/2018 21:49

Your issues with MN time wasting are painfully familiar to me 😳😳😳

Yay at shoes hills I am no stranger to eerrrm selectiveness when it comes to shopping (actually with shoes I am worse than my kids TBF) - just today I had a quick wander around H&M for an extra birthday pressie for DD and then realised I really REALLY can’t risk buying her any clothing anymore, as even if I got something she liked the look of, the chances are it would feel wrong.

I’ve been spending ages browsing Ikea and suchlike. I feel a lot more positive about it now that we have taken loads of measurements (rather than just room size, we’ve measured around radiators etc) and we are starting to get a better idea of what can go where.

Also trying not to clash too much with DH about how to get on with stuff! He’s going to phone lots of people (utilities etc) tomorrow, we are missing trampolining in order to get stuff done and I think we need to get practical stuff done more, but I can (reluctantly) see his POV too - the phone calls do need to happen. Hopefully baby will stay with him while the Caglets and I get on with some stuff.

We will go to badgers though as DD is now a cadet and I don’t want to make her miss her second session as it’s really important she settles in with the older teens. Gym couldn’t be missed today (competition next month) but they understand some things will have to be missed over the next month or so. This is the trampolining group without their best friends in so figured it’s better to miss this rather than next week (the groups alternate - I organise it now though so my kids do both :o)

I also need to pop into BHF and write down dimensions of the furniture we might get for our room.

Cagliostro · 20/06/2018 21:51

foxes go steady, you sound pretty run down my dear 💐

ta da
✅got keys
✅got DVDs for DD’s birthday
✅spent too much in hotel chocolat
✅wrote loads of measurements down and got some ideas of storage
✅got a cleaning quote

And my first proper housework ta da in our new home,
✅opened all the kitchen cupboard doors and fridge freezer doors to let the air circulate :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/06/2018 22:52

hills,cag,foxes,honky,Star for valiant efforts today
Stressy you are not alone.mn,Pinterest and alphabetty take many hours from my week.even tho I promise myself just a few minutes....

Cagliostro · 20/06/2018 23:07

Ooh I forgot to say, my worry about the whole not being allowed to work from home thing on the tenancy agreement was unfounded. Our tenancy rep (lovely) was most surprised I had been told that so I think it was down to the person I spoke to being a bit overzealous! It’s basically that you have to inform them and generally it’s fine unless it’s something that might cause problems to other residents (excessive noise etc) so all good.

I can’t sleep because I’m an idiot and have no willpower when stressed

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/06/2018 23:20

cag I am exactly the same when stressed, glad you got the working at home thing sorted.

Scoopofchaff · 21/06/2018 04:36

Good morning all! DD and friends (no school) and I are off to the countryside today so pls forgive me if I am rather absent from the thread! Just packing up a pîcnic etc before heading off!

Baby step no. 21 for Thurs 21st is here. Check out the Ask Flylady section of website.

We are in Zone 4 this week: The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 17-23). Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 4, here is the detailed cleaning list for the boudoir etc.

Thursday's mission is: here. Cleaning and clearing bedside tables.

Thursday's daily focus is: running errands.

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking lots of water.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Hope all newcomers settling in ok! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!
