June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Another box of games packed, not entirely sure if it was the best use of time really 🤔 but hey ho it’s something. Just about to shake out the baby clothes and put them in the dryer.

Cagliostro · 19/06/2018 13:06

Man alive it is really tiring shaking out an entire washload of baby clothes 😳 my arms hurt (in my defence I do have muscle pain/fatigue issues). Definitely not going to another lot today. I could do 0-3m tomorrow and 3-6m Thursday morning or Friday.

Caglets doing a bit more home ed (we are literally just using up random worksheets and stuff so it’s decluttering too!) and I’ve put a towel wash on.

Need to cook burgers in a mo. They’ve agreed that actually it’s not the end of the world if we have a main meal at lunch and sandwiches in the evening. So on the days when we are late home like today after tap class, it will save a lot of time.

Then going into town as there’s an excellent charity furniture shop, so I’ll take the notebook and have a browse for ideas.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/06/2018 13:31

stressy I rang to try and get app for Thurs(they have a weird system that they hold some apps back to release 2days before iyswim) I could get thru fast enough,so I try again tom for a Friday one
DP dutifully push trolley and help shop

I've eaten a ham roll and it's back with a vengeance.gets worse after eating and I'm not hungryConfusedDP just this side of fretting Freda bless him.i fell asleep on sofa as didn't want disturb him last night and he calm down at 7 anxious and fearful I was dead on floor as hadn't awoken anyone!!(slept thru alarm)poor sod makes me feel bed for worrying him...

Cag waving.awwww adorable

foxessocks · 19/06/2018 15:13

Urgh. After a fairly productive start I'm feeling exhausted now. Don't feel particularly well either not sure if it's tiredness related though. Don't want to cook dinner tonight and I forgot to get anything out of the freezer anyway Confused got some fish in the fridge but meh.

Cagliostro · 19/06/2018 15:48

I hate that meh feeling. Hope you feel better soon!

I really CBA to go out now, would much rather stay home! I’ve sorted the baby clothes but even just in that size there really is a ridiculous amount of vests, I might siphon off half plus a few babygros and put in a labelled bag for charity. As I know DN already bought some stuff and any new baby gifts tend to be newborn size too (this is how we ended up with so many!) so it will be way too much. I’ll have to do that when we get home.

I also had to get baby a bath after her lunch! She was a right state. And I’ve messaged a cleaning company.

Right off to look at furniture. Eeeeek

Defender90 · 19/06/2018 15:51

Hi everyone,

Have been lurking and would like to join in if that's ok? The baby steps starting point really appeals to me.

We have far too much stuff resulting in the house looking a mess most of the time.

Scoopofchaff · 19/06/2018 16:56

A warm welcome to Defender90!

You need a break Foxes (if at all possible)!

Glad your dp is around Zoo and helping out.

Wow your DC are v lucky to have so much help from you Honkywonkwoman and happy birthday to your dgs! You sound v busy indeed; as do you Cag and Toostressy!

Well done all!

No Flying for me again. Work this am. Then met up with DD and dh and went out for quick Vietnamese lunch; followed by brief visit with DD to one of her old teachers to drop off present for new baby! Tiny with beautiful dark hair and dark eyes and a lovely smile! So lovely to hold him. One forgets how tiny newborns are!

Welcome Defender

Ta da
not fall asleep at work
to order ds' book but I have a very strong suspicion that it is NOT the right book that the person ordered. So will see when I go to collect friday
Crawl into pjs and bed

I can french plaid and dutch braid, have also waterfall plaited in the past too. My french twists need more practice and half a mile less hair. But am another that just shoves it in a bun out the way most of the time. Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/06/2018 17:03

SHould read french plait. That serves me right for multi tasking.

Scoopofchaff · 19/06/2018 17:28

Wow that's impressive Hill's! I would love to be able to do all those variations! I'm at the level where I have a tablet playing a YouTube explanatory video in one hand, and a comb in the other!

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 19/06/2018 18:41

Competition and show hair styling. Also having waist length hair. I was both glad and sad to get rid of the glitter hair spray Blush. Although I will be honest and say I have only done waterfall braid on others not my own hair.

I took a nap Blush and feeling less like I was all day. Which is good. It was not a nice feeling. Need to go deal with laundry and decorating prep and tea etc. But first some email admin. So many to clear out and cull Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/06/2018 19:52

Very impressive Hills! Ahh that makes sense zoo, fingers crossed you get one for Friday then. Yes SC, this week was busy anyway without the car issue Hmm.

Welcome Defender Smile.

Ta da:-
DD1 homework
DD2 reading
Both DDs in PJs

To do:-
Start bedtime in 10 mins
Tea for DH and me
Get work stuff together for tomorrow
Get DH to look at the stuff I have got together for DD1’s activity (it involves a night camping which he has much more experience of!)
Open wine (will leave some in the fridge in the naughty corner Grin)

Scoopofchaff · 19/06/2018 20:02

[glugs Wine gratefully]

Evening all!

Forgot to thank everyone earlier for kind words about dd and end of exams! Definitely a lighter atmosphere here tonight!

Did not a lot after we got back home today. Broke no day-time tv rule and DD and I watched Cagney and Lacey together! Grin Made me nostalgic for 70s fashion!

Two loads washing done. Two hung up to dry. Emptied dw. Put another dw load on. Cleaned kitchen surfaces and bin. Walked furry.

Supper: remains of cold pork from last night chopped fine, with udon noodles and broth made of veggie stock, chilli, ginger, lime juice, broccoli, sweetcorn, red peppers etc all. Took 15 mins tops!

Posting links early tonight because it's nearly 9pm here and I'm shattered! Off to watch tv and then early night!

G'night all!

Baby step no. 20 for Wed 20th is here. A good one about including laundry in your morning and evening routines!

We are in Zone 4 this week: The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 17-23). Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 4, here is the detailed cleaning list for the boudoir etc.

Wednesday's mission is: here. Declutter/sort bottom of wardrobe/shoes.

Wednesday's daily focus is anti-procrastination.

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking lots of water.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Keep going everyone!

Aye, nevr good whenever it happens, but it's an awful time of year to have your car smashed up Toostressy . Definitely sod's law I'm afraid.

Zoo and Foxes hope you can get a good night's sleep tonight!

Scoopofchaff · 19/06/2018 20:17

Hills think you have to have a "knitting" brain to be able to plait that well something I definitely do -not possess.

OP posts:
Scoopofchaff · 19/06/2018 20:19

Hills I also have a load of e-mails to delete. Niaevely thought GDPR leg would result in less junk e-mails received , but has actually led to more!

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/06/2018 20:32

Thanks for links SC and glad things a bit more relaxed for your DD for now!

foxes, I am not surprised you ran out of energy, you always seem to achieve so much and with preschool DC around getting anything done is a massive achievement and so tiring!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/06/2018 21:10

That is an interesting point SC. I learnt to braid using embroidery floss that I plaited or knotted to make friendship bracelets or cords when I was a child. There could be up to 12 strands in each in some cases.

But then again we all know I am one of those annoying crafty people that can pick up most crafts after a moderate amount of practise. Blush probably why my craft room is a disaster and I am in danger of drowning from "in progress" or "needs the ends/finishing done" projects. HmmBlush

I am currently making dish clothes/pot holders/face clothes and I am planning on making some washable reusable make up pads like these at some point.

foxessocks · 19/06/2018 21:43

Thanks all. Well I didn't really do anything except a tiny quick tidy and help put dc to bed since my last post. Just lay down! Dh made pizzas but I only had two slices just not hungry. Am absolutely shattered so having an early night and hope I feel better in the morning.

I think it's part exhaustion from dd being up most of Saturday night and then ds waking up loads last night and Sunday night. And part my brain being in overdrive at the moment, am seeing my recently bereaved friend on Friday for the first time and I'm anxious of doing and saying the right thing and that has stirred up lots of feelings for me, feel like I've actually not been a good friend to a few people over the years when they've gone through similar, just questioning everything I've ever done really!

So yes physical tiredness plus mental tiredness = me not moving off the sofa all evening and very snappy with dh BlushSad

Sorry, that was longer than I was expecting!! Going to sleep now as I clearly need to!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/06/2018 22:05

foxes, some advice from cruse about supporting bereaved people here

Scoopofchaff · 20/06/2018 04:30

Bugger! First time in ages we don't have to be up at crack of sparrows; and here I am wide awake! As is dh!

Might as well profit from it and go and put some washing on!

Foxes hope you feel a bit more rested today. You will be helping your friend by just being there with her. How about telling her something like "I don't know what to say but I am so sorry you are going through this". Also (may not be appropriate) but Nigella does a very nice remembrance cake with rosemary if you want to take her something. Can pm recipe if you like. (May be more appropriate for actual funeral gathering though if that hasn't already taken place.)

As for past failings, whether accurately perceived or not, we all have regrets and areas where we feel we should have done better. But hindsight is a wonderful thing and being very tired and sleep deprived has a tendency to make us feel inadequate at the best of times, so is possibly not the best "viewing platform" ifyswim, so don't be too hard on yourself Flowers.

Agree with Toostressy that you are always on the go and achieving loads Flowers; do take it steady and take some time for yourself if you possibly can. (Could you get some temporary help from baby-sitter/family/friend while you rest up a bit?)

Hills love the sustainable/eco knitting and sewing projects!

Right..

OP posts:
foxessocks · 20/06/2018 07:22

Thanks Smile I'll have a look at that cake once the funeral has been arranged. You're right about being tired making everything worse! I think I have just let things get on top of me a bit and I am becoming increasingly harsh on myself. We have some holiday time approaching as a family so I think that will help as dh will be here and I will be able to relax a bit more.

Ds is definitely going through some sort of phase as he was up again last night for about an hour and a half just not wanting to be left at all. Still, not as bad as the night before and I don't feel sick anymore!

Scoopofchaff · 20/06/2018 08:00

Glad you are feeling a bit better Foxes and that you will be having a holiday soon. I know holidays aren't exactly relaxing with little 'uns; but hope you will be getting a bit more rest than usual.

I have been creeping around the house doing chores trying not to wake people up!

Ta da:
empty dw
tidy and clean kitchen from last night Blush
