If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 15:49

Sherry would probably put you in a better mood. I could murder a Malibu and coke myself

Scoopofchaff · 16/06/2018 17:08

I've sorry you are feeling so crap. It's a really unfair situation and the thought of your dp lying in bed while you maneouvre 4 dc to an activity and back -at the weekend when you have been doing the same all week - fills me with rage on your behalf! Angry. One could just about countenance taking turns to have a lie in at the w/e - but that doesn't really work with DC your age. Do you mind me asking, is he one of those blokes who thinks "earned a wage, job done"? Because it doesn't work like that with a young family. Sorry, but what sort of bloke treats his oh like that? (If you want an overweight red-faced menopausal angry woman to come and wake him up for you tomorrow, then I will happily oblige with newly acquired flame thrower.) Sorry; it's not a laughing matter, esp with 4 kids. He should be ashamed.

And never apologise for venting on here! That's what thread is for!

Glad you are feeling a bit better Foxes - I can testify dizziness is horrible - glad yours has settled a bit. Mine has largely gone thank heavens but still get the odd patch of it! Take it steady! Cake sounds lovely! Would love recipe when you have a moment but not remotely urgent!

Hope you find your top up card Zoo! The right one this time!

Honkywonkwoman hope you have a lovely day! Furry's name is Sam - the one he came with - doesn't really suit him though!

Waves to Hill's and everyone else!

Nothing wrong with a Malibu and coke cag

Cleared under dining table
Potatoes boiling
Mince is on
Not sure if it will make the oven or be a "deconstructed shepherd's pie"(mince n mash)Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/06/2018 17:11
Scoopofchaff · 16/06/2018 17:17

Sorry - forgot to say - Cag can really sympathise re: dh's who over-work! It's v difficult when they work themselves in to the ground and won't listen to reason. And it is very anxiety provoking.

BTW, I know it is v frustrating when your dh goes off to work and it feels like you are getting nothing done. But if you can possibly turn your thinking around; you are doing lots by keeping three DC safe, clean, fed, educated, stimulated (not nothing at all!) and basically overseeing them grow. Just because it's hard to measure incrementally, it doesn't mean it's not happening! And DC don't develop by themselves ifyswim!

Honkywonkwoman we should have changed his name to Mycroft! Grin

Arf at deconstructed shepherds pie Zoo ! Grin. Waves back!

BTW, I really have bought a flame thrower today. I'm NOT kidding!

Ah thanks sc I need to look at it on a weekly basis rather than daily as I’m not achieving any of those things today... they have scavenged for food 😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/06/2018 18:40

Scavenged for food brings up images of dustbins and rats...making themselves a sandwich/bowl cereal/having extra biscuits still come under the umbrella of all fed no one dead imo cag
Don't be so hard on yourself, there a huge amount stresses on your shoulders/in your head with the move on top of everything else.you wouldn't judge a friend in same circs.dont be so unkind to yourselfFlowers

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/06/2018 18:42
HillsBesideTheSea · 16/06/2018 19:12

9 times out of 10 atm ds has scavenged for food because tea was not served as he walked in through the door after school Hmm he doesn't want that Hmm or you just got to be creative with the ingrediants in the house because we are trying to empty the freezer enough to de-frost it without resulting in food poisioning.

Bloody music festival has started and is already really annoying me, So i am going to finish the wall filling I can do tonight, eat some crumpets, pee and then go find a hill to sit and knit quietly on until the noisy annoyance has stopped. 11pm it is due to quieten down. Should get a lot of knitting done Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/06/2018 19:23

I wish I could come hills sounds heavenly!!

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 19:45

Dinner tonight is an experiment. If it works I shall pat myself on the back for cobbling things together, improvisation skills and avoiding a takeaway.

If it doesn’t work, I shall order a takeaway

HonkyWonkWoman · 16/06/2018 19:56

So angry for you I've, it must be soul destroying for you, dealing with everything while "he" lies in bed half the day. If you've seriously had enough of him, you might find it easier without the aggravation of having him around. Another overweight, red faced, post menopausal, angry woman ready to join sc in tipping his lazy arse off the mattress. 😡

HonkyWonkWoman · 16/06/2018 20:03

Sam Mycroft has a nice ring to it sc. Grin

Had a great time this afternoon thanks. The comedians were hilarious, I was so hysterical and crying with laughter, I couldn't breathe. All very slapstick and silly for the kids but very, very funny.

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 20:38

Dinner worked! Yay!

The experiment was cooking the spaghetti in the sauce (put some stock in to make it more liquid) rather than separately. I keep seeing it on random Facebook recipe videos. Yum

foxessocks · 16/06/2018 20:40

fussfreeflavours.com/yogurt-loaf-cake/

Haven't quite caught up on all the posts yet as been out but here is the recipe sc and just tried it and it's lovely. I used plain greek yogurt and added dessicated coconut.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/06/2018 20:44

Hello all.

Not really been feeling it today and feel we have wasted the afternoon somewhat but at least DD2 is now asleep, DD1 is in bed and Father’s Day cards and chocolates are organised for tomorrow. I think I am going to write today off and start again tomorrow.

Sadly no alcohol in the house which really appeals, would love a Malibu and Coke right about now! DH is foraging in the kitchen so I hope he is making tea. My PJs and crap telly are calling me.

Giggage · 16/06/2018 21:15

Oh I've, it's shit living like that. I did it for years and the resentment just keeps growing. One day you'll be ready to get rid for good.

Scoop, after you have set fire to I've's partner, could I please borrow your flamethrower to use on my neighbours? Both sides.

foxessocks · 16/06/2018 21:25

So what's all this aboit a flame thrower?!

Scoopofchaff · 16/06/2018 22:32

Ha at all the talk of foraging and scavenging! Do them all good once in a while I say!

Thank you v much indeed for recipe Foxes much appreciated!

Flamethrower has been purchased to sort out uneven courtyard at wreck 2 (load of weeds/moss growing between cobbles which make it slippy). Must take care not to singe the eyebrows Grin

Happy to hire it out Giggage! Grin Where we live in has got louder and louder over the years (esp evenings) so I really sympathise!

Nah, you deserve a bit of time out Toostressy and a Malibu

How amazing about the spaghetti Cag - esp when it's always drummed in to one about cooking it in huge pot of water etc; going to try it!

Yes we like it too Honkywonk! Brilliant that the show was such a success! Agree there is nothing like the power of an angry menopausal woman to sort out the opposite sex! Grin

Love the thought of you sitting on a hill knitting Hills! Have the image of mountain rescue unravelling a ball of wool and following a trail Grin

Heartfelt but somewhat weary wing flaps to everyone else!

Could strangle dd's maths tutor tonight! Turned up at door (having arranged entire evening around the session) and were let in to building via their buzzer. Got outside their apartment door and they didn't ruddy well answer it despite being us knocking for 10-15 mins and being able to hear them (two parents and children) inside. The last session before the exam as well! Tutor did send an apologetic text by the time we were back home but seriously, who does that? If there had been some sort of family emergency, all she had to do was stick her head out of the door and say "so sorry, in the middle of something". We are not ogres or anything. She messed us around last weekend too and cancelled suddenly the week before that. And dd has been there countless times with their dc running in and out and disrupting the session - which although I really sympathise - is not great when you are paying (alot) Euros an hour! (She is a really good tutor and much in demand but I think our relationship is well and truly over.)

Harrumph. Cream crackered now. Did cook very tasty chicken casserole tonight though, even though I do say it myself. And did load of washing, emptied dw, tidied up kitchen, supermarket shop, sorted laundry, wrapped and delivered a present, walked dog. No official Flying though! Same old, same old!

G'night all!

Baby step no. 17 for Sun 17h is here. The now infamous step about setting a decent bed-time and sticking to it! Some of us have problems with this!

We will be starting in Zone 4: The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 17-23) on Sunday!
Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!). Only if you do zone work at weekends though!

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 4, here is the detailed cleaning list for the boudoir etc.

No missions on a Sunday because it is the w/e!

Sunday's daily focus is important: doing something to renew our spirits ie ring-fencing a bit of time for ourselves and doing something we enjoy!. It's so easy to keep saying "oh I will do this painting or sewing, or meeting up with friends, octopus wrestling, Andalusian nose-flute playing or whatever, at a later stage when I am less busy/have more energy/have more childcare/the dog doesn't need me etc etc. And take it from one who knows (although much harder with lots of dc I know partic when they are v young ) is that that time never comes unless you make it happen in the middle of all the chaos and fatigue! Hopefully, nine out of ten times, you will feel better for it too! Just spouting this out now because I wish I had taken note of it when younger!

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking lots of water.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Have as peaceful Sunday as you can fledglings!
