If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

beepbeep321 · 16/06/2018 08:15

Hi all, mid month but can I jump in.
Need to get on top of my cluttered house!
Full time working, two young kids, and ermmm...a tendency for messiness....but enough is enough!
I need to get my shizzle together!

beepbeep321 · 16/06/2018 08:32

So today, my tasks I am setting myself are to do 2x 15 mins decluttering.
And will attempt the baby step no 1 of shining my sink before bed.
Small steps but a start!

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/06/2018 08:38

foxessocks · 16/06/2018 08:38

I feel really really dizzy and weird this morning. Was hoping breakfast would help but hasn't yet. Dh at work and I need to take the dc to the shops. I slept really badly so maybe that's why.

beepbeep321 · 16/06/2018 08:39

I will never be a shining example just not a complete mess is what I'm aiming for GrinGrinGrinGrin

Scoopofchaff · 16/06/2018 08:43

Good morning all!

A very warm welcome to you beepbeep! When it comes to shizzles, mine has definitely fallen apart! Grin

[Passes Brew paracetemol, honey and lemon drink over to I've along with woolly fleece]

Thank you so much for the cookery book recommendations everyone! Really very much appreciated thank you! Hairy Bikers seem very popular! (And H Fearnley Whittingperson of course!) I have some of their books but only one from each; will have to check which and then have a little look on Amazon!

Lovely to see you Cordelia hope you are still continuing to enjoy the new job? Lots of other people in rl have recommended the HB diet book (3?) so definitely going to investigate!

Take it steady Bowerbird and hope you can have a bit of a rest this w/e. I also have a file of favourite recipes but I'm sick of all of them and want to cook something different/easier over the hols!

Deffo "under feet" cooking this year Zoo (and probably for forseeable future!). That's an amazing list saying you are feeling so rough Brew [Vicks] [fluffy blanket]!

Slighty weary here as set my alarm for 3 am in order to sit in play/tv room and see if there was any mouse activity! No sound or sight (or other evidence) of course (but I had swabbed everything with Dettol solution since yesterday so that may have put them off). Pest control man will be with us Mon! Oh joy! But I cannot stand the thought of going away and leaving the little vermin to play! Won't be able to sleep until thoroughly sorted either!

Won't be back for a while; hope everyone has a good day!

Two our of three of us are ready to go so I'm getting there! Still very dizzy and light headed. I have a lot of sympathy for you feeling like this for so long sc! Hope your dizziness has eased now.

HonkyWonkWoman · 16/06/2018 09:21

Welcome beep

WARNING - emotion dump.....

I am feeling really crap. 'Dp' is a joke and my relationship is pointless. He does fuck all. He is so selfish and inconsiderate. I really dont know what the point is. I am debating telling him to go to his parents but its so hard when dc are of an age to ask questions. Day before fathers day also seems unfair on them. Urgh. Sad

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 11:17

Oh ive :( has he got any clue you feel like this or is he still oblivious? I’m not sure if it’s better to just get it over with or wait until Father’s Day is over. Depends how he usually is on that day maybe, and I certainly wouldn’t be making it a treat day for him. Twat. 😡😡😡

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 11:19

As for the asking questions though, put that out of your mind (Father’s Day aside - if they have a present or card for him then maybe it’s kinder to let them give it as planned). If it’s going to happen, then it will happen at some point anyway.

Also - if you stay then they will end up asking different questions, like “why did mum put up with that” or they’ll learn that it’s ok for men to treat their partners like crap. It will be kinder in the long run not to stay in an unhappy relationship honestly 💐

Cagliostro · 16/06/2018 11:49

I am very behind on the thread BTW. Have skim read so far and enjoyed the dog pics, I’m not a dog person but they are undeniably gorgeous. And welcome beep! :)

Unmotivated is an understatement. I nearly begged DH to stay home, the thought of being on my own with the three of them and getting nothing done AGAIN is surprisingly upsetting. Which is ridiculous really.

I think he does need to actually seriously think about having some time off though TBF, he really is in quite a lot of pain. But he’s one of those who’d go in with his arm hanging off because nothing would get done otherwise.

Did him no favours when he had a fucking prolapsed disc and trapped nerve, and of course that ended in him losing his job, me finding a job and caring for him as well as the kids, which resulted in complete physical overload for me and I wound up with CFS/fibro... so this whole situation is making me Very Nervous Indeed. I’m not actually sure how we will cope with him having a chronic condition as well. And that’s without the impending house move.

Fuuuuuck.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 16/06/2018 13:15

foxessocks · 16/06/2018 14:11

Ta da
Daily routine
Made lemon and berries yogurt loaf cake. Figured today was the last day I could use the yogurt so found a recipe! Smells nice.
Wrapped friends present / wrote card for later
Been to shops for few bits and dh presents and card for tomorrow
Made dc lunch - bagels with jam (not the healthiest but they loved them!)
Ds down for nap
Helped dd wrap dh presents for tomorrow (not much but she wanted them wrapped!)

I'm feeling much better now not dizzy now but still slightly got cotton wool head, think probably just tiredness as I really didn't sleep much last night.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 16/06/2018 14:13

I think plan for today is to ignore him. Shouldnt be too hard as he wont get up unless i make him.

In the long run life is less stressful without him.

We have seperated before but now we own a house together which throws in a whole new layer of shit
