If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Awww STILL, hope she feels better soon. You are not an awful mum.

No housework done, BUT

I did paint the coving and living room ceiling.

Only the skirting
another coat on the door
and re-paint the fireplace and the living room would finally be properly finished for the first time ever.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/06/2018 19:47

Thanks for the Link Honu. I think for the information on how the biochemistry of their claim works I am going to have to do a bit of digging into research papers. I still don't understand how biochemically this can be the truth. It all seems like pseudo science to me atm.

Nothing against anything other than the freezing heating aspect changing things from one form to another.

My day: __

Next.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/06/2018 20:47

Oh and SC you were right to be cautious about the cut it is just on the turn to infection. Antiseptic cream stings. Always a tough call because I am allergic to plasters and surgical tape. Blush So will have i nice patch of raw skin tomo.

Scoopofchaff · 13/06/2018 06:14

Morning! Sorry for late posting of links, was out last night... .

Baby step no. 13 for Wed 13th is here. Introducing missions! Choose one and go and do it!

We are in Zone 3 this week: [[http://www.flylady.net/d/zones/zone-3/
The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (June 10-16)]]. Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 3, here is the detailed cleaning list for the bathroom etc.

Wednesday's mission is: here. Bathroom = clean window sill, towel holder, loo roll holder. Garage or other room = take a box and choose 10 things you no longer love or need! Dump or donate immediately!

Wednesday's daily focus is anti-procrastination. Do something you have been dreading!

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Keep going everybody! Even 5 mins makes a difference! And don't be put off or intimidated by long lists on here; all of us have days when our lists are not so long, or are non-existent! Better to go slowly and take small steps than face burn out!

Hills, hope your arm is better today.

STILL, how is DD ?

Yesterday, only managed to paint coving and ceiling in living room and get the car fixed. It's now silent, no rattle, no groan.

Today, catch up on what I couldn't be bothered to do yesterday.

Cut lawns
Glossing? Maybe?
Washing
Wash shower curtain
Drop off and hide DP's father's Day gift in his Dds room.
Clean bath
Cat litter needs changing

There's so much to do.

Good luck everyone

Scoopofchaff · 13/06/2018 06:26

Hills believe it or not, the reason I was wary about your injury was because a character in the Archers died recently owing to a cut on their arm! I think it was a narrative designed for sepsis awareness week! So please do look after it! Confused

Zoo hope Lil Zoo and ds start feeling a bit better today! You are definitely not an awful mum! Must be v difficult with them both ailing at the same time and the attitude of "Get out of my life but first run me in to town" (as in the seminal book!) is classic teenager! Flowers
(Btw, I woke up with "razor blade throat" last week and had similar feelings of fatigue etc, thought I was in for proper flu, but bug seems to have totally disappeared thankfully!)

Well done re: the painting yesterday Giggage!

Aw, thank you Goth! Smile You too! Smile And same here ... any time you are touring the lugubrious lowlands... you would be very very welcome!! Grin

I've hope you and your ds are still feeling better today!

Encouraging wing flaps to Foxes and to everyone else! BBL once dd off to exam! Short morning because she'll be back around noon (starvingly hungry no doubt!).

Have a good day everyone!

Cagliostro · 13/06/2018 08:57

Morning folks I finally caught up on the thread!

DH has done a bit of home ed with the Caglets, and found the cable for the shopandscan thing so he’s put the shopping away and transmitted a few weeks worth of barcodes.

I should get up really. He’s just gone to the doctors to find out more about dodgy blood results - bit nervous as he’s been so run down and achy lately but it can’t be anything too scary as they gave him a routine appt not an urgent one.

Then we have some time to get stuff done hopefully - laundry to put away, and as I’m home all day I can get more baby clothes washed and folded (if it’s regular laundry I don’t mind leaving it sitting in the machine a bit but I want to shake the creases out etc as it’s going to friends). And pack some things in boxes. Eeeeeep.

Caglets have been agreeing to get rid of some more things actually so that’s good. Some toys are things that we will probably get again for the baby someday but I just don’t see the point taking up room now - it’s different with the expensive and good condition stuff we’ve already put away like wooden railway and duplo.

BTW I asked on my other regular thread and it seems the no running a business thing is more to do with things that may affect other residents like lots of visitors coming and going, industrial equipment etc. So hopefully someone sitting at the table doing maths doesn’t count (they’d be here anyway as we usually tie tuition into play dates). Don’t think it can be income related as it’s all declared, tax return done etc and they need a minimum income for HA anyway (we had to prove we can afford it). Anyway hopefully they will be understanding, I’ve already decided that if they aren’t, I will write to my MP - hope it wouldn’t get to that though.

Right, must get up.

GoingGoingGoth · 13/06/2018 09:52

Zoo sounds like you're doing the right thing. I know I prefer the familiarity of my own loo when I have a bad stomach. Hope she feels better soon.

Cag both husband & I work from home. I think landlady had to sort out her insurance differently because of it but she says it was doable. I've missed your original post about this so ignore me if I've got the wrong end of the stick

Bowerbird5 · 13/06/2018 13:45

Ha ha! Foxes I looked at those this morning( sink tidy) but I am only buying essential things just now so stuck to plan and bought garden stuff.

Bargains...hazel trellis ( for sweet peas) £4:99, netting for beans £1, Heather screen to hide wood area( asked DP to do this at least two years. Ago), fleece for winter50p x2 pound land, tool hanger (for 6) £1,
Going out to put it up soon. Had loads of interruptions. Phone, deliveries for other people. Meeting at work later.😣😛😝 MY DAY OFF!

Menu
Breakfast- cereal, tea.
Lunch- Egg sandwich, roll 25p, egg free. Mayonnaise free.
Tea- tuna pasta, tuna 69 p pasta store cupboard.

I don't think you can feed anyone for £12 a week. I am going to have another go next week by shopping at B&M. We have a big store but I haven't used it...didn't know it was there actually.
I am going to challenge myself to feed myself for £2 a day. When the kids were home I used to budget well and although I still like a bargain I can now afford to treat myself now and then. Zoo's error/ typo got me thinking. I know lots of our families are on benefits. Years ago we allowed a veggie scheme into school to help families buy cheap good veg. It ended up with staff buying it and families not bothering, the kids often had chips from the chip shop. I felt sad when I discovered that the reason some children couldn't eat with a knife and fork was that they ate chips out of the paper on the floor and they had no cutlery in the house. There is a community charity shop up the road. Quite a few of our children come to school without breakfast. Not those teens that don't want it but little ones of 5&6 and then I see mums on their phones not talking to them on way to school. I do sometimes judge. I know I shouldn't but I do wonder if that is where the benefits are going.

Zoo is your DD the one that cannot drink cows milk? Just wondering if she might be intolerant of soya as DD and I are. I had lots of tests and it was dairy & soya that were the problem. Might be worth a try. It takes three weeks to completely leave your system. So abstinence then a good feed of it and watch for reaction. I know you probably know that but just mentioning for those that don't.

Cagliostro · 13/06/2018 13:53

Cagliostro · 13/06/2018 15:40

Aw thanks foxes yes definitely feeling better about it today. I know there will be a lot of anxiety in the near future (more than my usual amount :o) so I’m trying to celebrate and get productive when I am up to it.

In less good news, DH has been referred to rheumatology. Looks like arthritis. Bugger.

I am bringing dolly mixture to the naughty corner. I bought liquorice allsorts by mistake the other day, ugh.

Have put the last neutral baby clothes (plus the extra special bits I’m sending to a MNer) wash on - was going to leave it but I’m out most of tomorrow so it’ll just get left and at least this way it’s done. In hindsight I should’ve stored it by colour before as I’ve had to separate it out to wash the whites together. 🤦‍♀️ Thankfully I won’t really need to do that with the girly stuff as it’s pretty much all coloured anyway.

I do need to find out if DN wants the Moses basket, and the play mat (so glad I got a cheap one as it was barely used).

Cagliostro · 13/06/2018 16:13

Link to your sink tidy please?

I’m not expecting to get much else done today now as DH and DD are at gym. Definitely can’t leave DS with the baby ATM other than a quick dash to the loo etc. He’s very good at making her laugh though.
