June's arrived too soon! Catch up with the Fledgling Fly thread ... .

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

Oh bloody hell, sorry for the essay!

Scoopofchaff · 10/06/2018 20:52

Whey hey Cag will have all fingers and toes crossed for you tomorrow morning!!!! Really hope the viewing goes well!

Firehouse that's a very good list; more than just "basics" in my book! Funnily enough, my late ma seemed to get more hygienic and more obsessed with housework as she aged! Her house literally gleamed when she was 87 years old and she only had a cleaner 3 hrs a week despite the fact that she was quite frail by then. Everything was immaculate (she decluttered and decluttered as she neared the end so nothing would be "a bother" for us). Whereas, when we were young, we lived in a large rather ramshackle house, which was freezing lovely but not ever what you would call pristine.

Great list Honkywonkwoman and yes I did put my feet up thanks. Started stripping guest beds and doing washing with burst of energy then quite quickly lost the will to live ... Grin

Feeling a bit miffed tonight actually because I thought I would at least get a "thank you" from dh now that we are alone again but no such luck. DD is also pissed off with me because I reminded her twice about maths revision (exam tomorrow). Heigh ho. [Cue tiny violin music]

x posts Giggage another amazing list!! Star

Those moving tips are fabulous too (definitely going to make a note of them for future use!)

Baby step no. 11 for Mon June 11th is here. Add an "inspirational page" or not to your control journal stating such gems as "You can't clean clutter" or "You can do anything for 15 mins". Take it or leave it!

We are in Zone 3 this week: The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (June 10-16). Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 3, here is the detailed cleaning list for the bathroom etc.

Monday's mission is: here. Bathroom= spend 15 mins sorting linen closet (if you have one in bathroom that is) and other room = put out two hot spots.

Newcomers: definition of hot spot = here. A pile of clutter that attracts more clutter!

Monday's daily focus is the home blessing or what we call the "home bleugh". Spend 10 mins on seven essential tasks, and no, we can't get them all done in that time either!

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Have a productive start to the week everybody!

FFS the bloody BBC needs an account. I just want to watch a program with potentially shitty biochemistry to see if there is something in the pathway that I am missing. I do NOT want a sodding account, nor for you to track my viewing habits, nor to recommend me things or send me emails. Since when did the Bloody BBC become fucking big brother?!!!!

Apparently I have opininons on this. WHo knew Blush

Cagliostro · 10/06/2018 22:38

:o

ta da
✅3 washes, maybe 4 I lost count
✅towels in dryer
✅non tumble stuff hung out (ok, slung unceremoniously over banister)
✅first lot of baby clothes washed, shaken, dried, shaken and folded into bags by size (can you tell this is far more effort than I go to while we are using the clothes ourselves)
✅made bolognese, 2 bags of sauce in freezer and some left for DH after work
✅cleared up most of dinner detritus
✅started writing in TMN (the Moving Notebook)
✅Caglets put clothes away, I’ve done some of ours and baby’s
✅watched handmaids tale from last week (this deserves a ta da ATM because I am finding it hard to concentrate on anything other than sitcoms I’ve watched a million times already, so it took effort)
✅going to bed at decent time now although I must move the high chair first
✅gathered a load of recycling from home ed shelves
✅bathed the bolognese-covered baby... the sponge turned slightly orange

Bowerbird5 · 10/06/2018 23:36

Hills it was about April as I was listening (going to sleep to) the Archers catch up and next night I can't get on because I bloody have to sign up. It kept chucking me off too.

As long as it isn't an orange baby Cags

I'm seriously considering whether you could actually feed an adult for a week on £12. Might give it a try. Must get to sleep.
I did some more gardening and de cluttering in the garden

Scoopofchaff · 11/06/2018 04:24

Gah, woke up at 4.15 am and still can't sleep (nearly 5.30 here). May as well give up and get up!

OP posts:
firehousedog · 11/06/2018 05:11

Yeah I'm awake too. I'm still in bed only because it's comfortable not because I think I will be able to get back to sleep again.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/06/2018 06:31

Lil zoo woke me at 5 with tummyache.....

Fire they loved Jurassic park.lots jump scares apparently!!
Bower if you have a spare moment check out thrifty lesley.she writes menu plans and recipes that are nutritious and super cheap.£12 could well be doable there!
On Subject saving money I've mine eat own brand cereals.i prefer them as slightly less sweet.word of warning though,Weetabix own brand can be like eating cardboard.....

Bbl with the tada

Cagliostro · 11/06/2018 07:19

Cereal is a huge expense here too. DS won’t eat anything else for breakfast really, DD will but would still eat cereal as soon as she wakes up.

You’d have to eat a lot of lentils for £12 a week. I love red lentils.

I just blindly signed up for BBC when they insisted on an account. This may be why I end up inundated with emails from all the accounts I have with various websites. I do use iplayer loads though. And I never gave the fat fairy my email address as that would probably double my inbox overnight. 😂

I feel slightly refreshed as although Cagletini did wake up after my previous post, she then slept 6.5hrs straight in her bed, huzzah! ⭐️

I actually did the flylady thing of getting clothes out yesterday, or rather keeping an outfit out as we put other clothes away 😂 as we have to leave in under an hour due to school run traffic.

firehousedog · 11/06/2018 08:14

zoo my boy would love to watch jurrassic park but he is way too young. Will have to try and keep this film secret from him.

Cag another red lentil fan here.

Well i managed to roll over and actually fall asleep again. Never normally happens. Glad i did though. Feel fresh for that extra 90 mins sleep.

To do today

school run
make beds
clean toilets
hoover through
try and sift through the laundry basket

Scoopofchaff · 11/06/2018 08:20

Glad you got more shut-eye Firehousedog!

I love red lentils too! Def going to check out Thrifty Lesley Zoo!

I am in a bad mood this morning.

Waking up hurts this morning Blush soooo tired and huge to do list to do that I don't want to. Car needs to go back to the garage. Again. the sodding thing seems to spend more time in there. I also have to sort out car insurance today. left it to last minute again. bollocks Blush

Best go get ds chucked to school. but i don't wanna

foxessocks · 11/06/2018 08:55

I pretty much only buy own brand stuff the exceptions being Hellman's mayo and branston baked beans Grin we have own brand Weetabix which ds eats and he isn't bothered, own brand shreddies which I think are just as nice as nestle ones, Sainsbury's and Asda are anyway the Aldi ones aren't as good but still ok. And we buy the Asda very nutty muesli which is delicious. Also we buy own brand Asda fromage frais for the dc 40p for 6 pots cheaper than Aldi even.

I like to think I'm something of an own brand shopping guru Grin I think I've pretty much tried everything!

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 11/06/2018 09:23

Unfortunatley one of mine is dairy free and very loyal to Alpro for milk and yogurts Angry

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 11/06/2018 09:37

Morning all BrewBrewBrew

Thanks for advice / sympathy re. school reunion / summer dressing. Giggage, I would feel most comfortable in jeans but I don’t know how smart the place is (I live nowhere near where I went to school although my parents are still there so I could ask them actually) and the website gives no hints. It’s a bar / restaurant type place. Plus it’s in a few weeks so potentially super hot weather. Have a couple of top options and possibly some summery trousers if jeans not an option.

Anyway, we had such a busy, expensive but great weekend filled with activist and seeing family. However, the house is now a mess! So today needs to be a laundry and tidying day. First though I need to find the girls’ gymnastics clothes and wash them quickly in the hope they dry by school pick up and I don’t have to take the hairdryer to them!

Re. cereals, I really have tried own brand options. We use own brand rice crispies, weetabix and shreddies but nobody will eat the Aldi ones. Cheerios own brand have always been rejected so we get branded ones. I even tried not telling anyone and swapping to own brand Cheerios and Aldi other cereals every so often and they all noticed (I have to say I could taste the difference too) Angry.

firehousedog · 11/06/2018 09:39

I hate it when cars brake down, needs mot/service cag I hope its not too expensive.

Yeah my boy has watched some of the Jurassic Park films Ive but there is no way a cinema will let him in for a 12 film. He's only 5 bless him.

ta das

school run
washed dishes
wiped over kitchen surfaces

firehousedog · 11/06/2018 09:41

re breakfast, everyone here seems to be content with toast and yoghurts. We have some cereals in the larder but rarely do they come out (probably should check the expiry dates on them tbh). The theme here is more like jars of toast stuff; we have various jams, honeys, marmite, peanut butter, etc.

HonkyWonkWoman · 11/06/2018 09:44

Also woke up in the dark at 4.30, tried to cool down and drift off again but gave up at 5. Grrrrrr!

Ta da
Fed cat and dog
Swish and swipe
Empty bins
Sort out some paperwork
Take photo of Cooker and dryer in garage (giving to charity and they won't pick them up until I send photos - cooker only 2yrs old 😕)
Ring Dentist - filling fell out.

To do
Aaaarrrrggggg! LOADS
After saying that, the kitchen is pristine (as brand new 😂😂😂😂)
So just Dust all through
Vacuum ". "
Washing
Shopping
Shop for Dad
Catch up with Dgd's (twins) home from Uni.

This warm weather is definately putting me off doing any strenuous jobs.
I'm melting (in the voice of Wicked Witch of the West)
Must go as I'm rambling now! 😂

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/06/2018 09:47

I have one like that Ive, but he has tried other brands and made me try other brands and some of them are really NOT nice Envy
