If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

zoo poor dd hope she feels better soon

Well this morning didn't go to plan. Was going to do some housework before the community cafe but my friend sent a message she had some v bad news so that left me reeling a bit and ended up not doing a thing and walking round in a daze. Managed to go to community cafe still though and now have collected dd and got ds down for his nap. Need to get some stuff done before we go to dd sponsored run later. Must try and get on and stop thinking too much.

Cagliostro · 06/06/2018 13:13

Aah poor lilzoo and sorry about your friend foxes :(

We’ve not got a lot done yet really. I’ve been looking around thinking of lots of things to get rid of. Some things will be difficult to convince the others about, but other things I reckon they wouldn’t even notice.

It’s amazing how I got such a new perspective on Stuff just by thinking “do I REALLY want to clutter up a new tidy house with xyz”. There is a lot of stuff that I just don’t like enough.

So new aims:
Use up a few little science kits we’ve accumulated - the build once, keep for a while then chuck away type things.
Sneak lots of things into the bin 🙄
Arrange a tip run fairly soon if a friend or DSS could help - there’s a few big things to get rid of now and it’d be good to get them out of the way
Finally sort out the baby clothes. Niece has just found out she’s having a girl, so I can separate out all the girly stuff for her
Talk about a few other big things I don’t think are worth keeping but not sure if everyone will agree

Still haven’t had a phone call yet though so I’m going a bit crazy waiting. 😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2018 14:37

Giggage · 06/06/2018 15:24

Will make a proper reply later so please forgive if I seem rude.

Done:

Tip run
Found trousers that actually got me properly
Got watch strap fixed
Forced dog out for a 2 hour walk (very nervous all of a sudden, so god knows what's happened to her), she was fine up until a few months ago.
Got some stationary for September
Got rid of broken BBQ and goal net

Other then that, not a lot achieved.

foxessocks · 06/06/2018 15:30

Well still not getting much done but here we go anyway

Ta da
Decluttered one kitchen cupboard and wiped down
Washing up
Went to dd sponsored run
Finished daily routine

Going to try and do a bit more before I have a Brew

Dinner tonight is going to be fishcakes chips and beans and I'm contemplating making scones this afternoon.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2018 16:48

I too am not getting much done foxes
Lil zoo went office 2pm but as forgot meds at lunch they just gave that and sent back to class.it helps stop pain get worse(a bit) but don't make it better....

Dd2 has just gone into orbit as some girls she's had trouble with before been produced her with tippex so I've email her tutor to stamp on it before starts escalating.quick google I can't use white spirit etc as suggested to remove it as it's a cheap manmade fibre type quality.aaaarrrgh

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2018 16:48

Tin hat! FFS

Cagliostro · 06/06/2018 16:58

I'm feeling so unproductive today :(
Got our offer letter, it details a lot of stuff which has got me all paranoid because it's so official and I always worry about stuff like that. I'm panicking about the next stage of getting an occupational therapist to assess me and report about adaptations etc. I dunno just freaking out they'll suddenly say actually no you can't live here. Even though it's infinitely better than our current house already. Sigh. I suppose I'll be an anxious mess until we actually have the keys.

Really struggling with food today, I want to eat my body weight in chocolate and am sincerely regretting my decision to cut down on Dr Pepper and such.

IPad is dead (I left my official one in a friend's car and the spare non Apple one doesn't seem to work) so have opted for sitting with the laptop instead. There is so much I could be doing while Cagletini sleeps but I just don't want to.

DH has washed the bedding, we ordered Tesco for tonight and he's now at gym with the Caglets, they did a bit of home ed today too. Spare bed has FINALLY been collected. I had to run outside with the mattress as he didn't knock Hmm. I've sorted the most recently outgrown baby clothes between two recipients and messaged a friend about them (wasn't sure if she wanted them, she does so that's great! They may never get used - she's a new foster carer - but I'm glad she will have them in case she ever needs to foster a baby). All our clothes are away and I've gathered (what I hope are) all the library books, I'll return them tomorrow and probably not borrow anything else now until we've moved.

So some stuff has been achieved. But compared to what I hoped for it's fuck all. :(

carbonella · 06/06/2018 17:19

foxessocks · 06/06/2018 19:24

carbonella I read "built flat pack" as "made flapjacks" and now I want flapjacks Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2018 20:58

Mmmmm I love flapjacks Grin. Had quite a productive work day but am inexplicably shattered so now the kids are in bed I am going to have a 15 min blitz then collapse. Have just wasted 15 mins on Facebook so feel obliged to do a 15 min today in return.

SC, hope your DH is ok.

Cagliostro · 06/06/2018 21:02

Mmm flapjack. I had the end of DD's earlier.

I have epic tummy cramps again but no period. And my glands are up and ouchy. Waaaah

I did sort the baby clothes into bags according to age and recipient. Need to get some bags and then rewash them at a time when I can be there to get them out of washer and dryer quickly so they are less crumpled. I don't bother normally but want to hand on nice things!

GoingGoingGoth · 06/06/2018 21:03

Hills you obviously needed that nap. I've been having the occasional daily siesta recently

Foxes so sorry for your friend, how are you feeling now?

My bit of good news is I have a working shower which has made us all feel a bit better, even grumpyteen.

This week's justified grumbles is her subject choices are having to be changed. She can't do physics because her maths isn't good enough (and I'm trying not to do the whole "I told you so" routine) so that's changing to business management.then somehow the timetable means she can't do geography so she's doing history instead. But this is all dependent on her tracking down her year head. She says she wants to sort it out but I'm giving her one more day before I go in.
I know planning timetables can't be easy but every year hers seems to be wrong and now we're talking about qualifications now. vents

foxessocks · 06/06/2018 22:06

Thanks goth just a bit dazed really and wondering what the hell I can do or say to help Sad

I'm definitely making flapjacks next week (I have to limit my baking or we would all get very fat and I have already made scones today CakeSmile)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2018 22:10

foxes, so sorry for you and your friend. Life is often so cruel and it is so difficult when you feel powerless Flowers. There may be nothing you can do to help but they will know you are there for them.

Scoopofchaff · 06/06/2018 22:52

Foxes I am so sorry about your friend Flowers

Baby step no. 7 for Thurs June 7th is a highly recommended one about laying out your clothes for the next day, the evening before.

From 3-9 June we are in Zone 2 the kitchen. Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 2, here is the detailed cleaning list for the kitchen.

Thursday's mission is: here. 15 mins spent cleaning surfaces of large appliances.

Thursday's daily focus is: errand day.

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Goth a new shower must be very welcome in this current weather! (We are struggling with maths here too.)

Hope you are not going down with something Cag. Well done with the baby clothes sorting!

Zoo not sure if any good? Sorry your dd2 had that happen. Could Lil Zoo tummy pain be anxiety related do you think at all? (Anxiety can produce very very real physical symptoms as we know.)

I think this humidity is very draining Toostressy. Hope you feel less tired tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about flare Hills bonne récupération!

Your boss sounds rather tricky Catherine!!

How strange about your dog Giggage. I assume she is passed the "fearful" period of puppyhood? She didn't encounter any lightening or thunder while she was out previously did she? Is she hurting anywhere? Never known a dog not want to go out except for my mischievous daschund when its raining.

Honkytonkwoman hope the outdoor flying went well!

Well done on your list achieved Carbonella

Waves to Bowerbird and everyone else I have missed!

G'night all!

Morning all,

Well i forgot to log in to mn yesterday.

I did manage to;

feed kids
dress kids
put rubbish out for collection
school run
bring rubbish bins back in
deep clean and mop kitchen
two laundry loads in the wash
school run
make tea
school homework
bath and bed routine
wash dishes
wipe over kitchen surfaces
general tidy up

Today the bathrooms are getting blitzed!!

Also, I hope everyone's lil ones get better soon and I've not had flapjack for years Shock

8am and I'm currently licking on an ice lolly Smile

GoingGoingGoth · 07/06/2018 09:20

Update on the timetable situation - turns out the swap to history is already sorted and while she would prefer geography she's not too bothered about the change. Will probably work well with her Modern Studies.
As for the Physics, it's not the school telling her she can't do it. She's had 3 lessons and they are talking about something (I still haven't pinned down what exactly) and she's feeling overwhelmed and wanted to swap. That makes more sense as she scored well in Physics last year.
So the issue is she lacks self-confidence and doesn't want to ask for help. I've asked her to bring her stuff home tonight so I can look at it. I did well at physics and I'm sure we can work it out together - we still have some books left from uni.

Ta-dahs
Cot fed
Beds
Breakfast
Swish & swipe
DD to school
Bulk waste out for collection
Fed birds
Prepped & froze kale from veg box
Shelled broad beans for freezing

To do
Finish broad beans
Ironing
Wait for charity shop to collect DH's exercise bike (I knew it would end up a clothes horse)

This afternoon I'm treating me DH to afternoon tea at the Willow Tea Rooms, they are doing a special offer as it's Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s 150th birthday.

Cagliostro · 07/06/2018 09:36

Oh fab. We have reached the biting during a feed phase. Not that she has any teeth yet. She is really bloody hard work ATM! Not her fault mind, it's mostly because this house is still not at all suitable for a crawling/cruising baby. Really need to get her some bigger toys I think, she only has little rattles and such. Moving is going to be hard. I think I need to just start putting her in the buggy (which is in the living room) when I need to get stuff done. Not ideal but the safest option.

Still feel wobbly today but need to head into town in a bit to meet the others. Could really really do without Badgers tonight.

CatherineTheTiny · 07/06/2018 09:48

Good morning everyone, hope you are all well

Yesterday was not as productive as I would have liked, I went babysitting but instead of cleaning up I took a nap because I was shattered. Had to attend a social function in the evening, came back and realised that the plumber is coming today to fix our sink, so I gave the kitchen and dining room a good clean before going to bed.

To do:
-Tidy lounge
-finally clean out fridge
-arrange something for dinner
-tidy up the tupperware-cupboard

Ta da:
-got up on time
-school run routine without big fight or tantrums
