If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it June already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore Flylady's barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to her emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

The launch pad is the place from which you can reach most other useful areas of the site: here.

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are at!. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Flying one and all!

I take it you guys have not found the naughty corner bar. For those in need of a place to hide after a long day flying, just a long day, or in days where CBAitis is strong. We do not bar anyone from it. It is a place of refuge. Sometimes we have a sandy beach and cocktails, sometimes we have roaring log fires. It is like the room of requirements. Grin

:o

ta da
✅home ed
✅walked to the park and back
✅played some tennis (exceedingly badly) with DS
✅put dryer on
✅discovered non arriving eBay textbook bargain had been refunded, so reordered along with a maths teacher guide and a Macbeth text guide... I have a problem 💸💸💸 but they are such bargains.
✅tap classes... and Cagletini managed to climb the stairs there 😱
✅thought of even more lovely things about potential new house (like the fact they can use their currently obsolete bikes and skates safely at the park that is 3 minutes away and has lots of wide paths!). Feeling happier all the time about it.

ta didn’t
✅order Tesco 🤦‍♀️
✅use move planning notebook

Cagliostro · 05/06/2018 22:37

I realise my ✅ next to the ta didn’ts are slightly misleading 🙄❌😳

Hello everyone!

A warm welcome to CatherinetheTiny and sorry I missed you earlier!

Also missed the fact that you were starting your new role at work today Hills I hope it is going well and good luck for the rest of the week!

Apologies for inadequate thread-leading everyone and lack of personals. My dh is not v. well atm. Visitors have come to check out he is ok. All of which means I am not properly on top of the thread.

Everyone looks to be extremely busy though! Some humungous lists on here - well done everybody!

I hope newcomers are doing ok too!

Will catch up as soon as I am able!

In the meantime, here are the links for Wednesday:

Baby step no. 6 for Wed June 6th is here. Continuing previous steps and learning about hot spots. [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/fly-faq/#hotspot
Here is the definition of a hot spot]].

From 3-9 June we are in Zone 2 the kitchen. Spend 15 mins a day decluttering this area (and/or do a mission!).

If you are at the stage where you have finished decluttering Zone 2, here is the detailed cleaning list for the kitchen.

Wednesday's mission is: here. Scrub the kitchen tap(s) with a toothbrush! I think very few of us do this! Personally I find a squirt of Dettol foam bathroom cleaner or a polish with some Viakal does the trick just as well.

Wednesday's daily focus is: anti-procrastination. Do something you have been avoiding!

The habit for June is: keeping hydrated by drinking water regularly.

A summary of the above (which should update itself daily) can be found in the flight plan here.

Newcomers: if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Or look at the Flylady FAQ here! (Scroll up to top.)

Giggage/Firehousedog people not picking up their animals by-products and not disposing of it properly is one of my all-time bugbears. And as say that as a dog-owner.

Bowerbird5 · 06/06/2018 07:36

Ta Da for today.
Dishwasher on
Bed airing
Post in post box
Windows open as it is quite muggy here.
Washing on line.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 06/06/2018 07:43

I have been known to call people back to pick up their dog shit. The path i use to school is awful. Its also very narrow and difficult to navigate the poo with a pram! So yes i will shout them back and shame them. 😁

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 06/06/2018 07:51

Ta da

Wash on
Dryer on
Washing on line
Dc all up and fed

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/06/2018 08:00

SC please do shout if you need a hand with the thread at this unpredicted extra busy time. You we will. Sorting the visitors and your dh and dd is far more important. Do not worry about it. Just ask.

I slept, ergo I feel like death.

ds presented me with a request of what he needed for his exams this morning late last night. Actually he didn't I specifically asked if he had what he needed. He didn't Hmm I have a feeling he has forgotten stuff so just trying to find an ellusive email from school

Cagliostro · 06/06/2018 08:09

Hope DH is better soon sc and that he’s actually taking some time off (mine never does 🙄) please don’t worry about thread hosting!

Welcome to newbies 💐

How is lilzoo zoo?

I’m still in bed but only woke at 7 so despite baby waking more I feel like I had more sleep.

DH’s day off so it really needs to be a Get Shit Done Day.

Scoopofchaff · 06/06/2018 08:36

Thank you very much indeed Hills! Much appreciated! Will shout if it gets any worse! Dh claiming to be feeling better today though and coming on to this thread for the odd 10 mins is a bit of a relief from cooking/choring frankly!

Sympathies on the exam equipment front btw! Here the dc have to take in those Ziploc transparent envelopes in which to put pencils/pens etc. I've finally remembered them this year but on previous occasions dd's had to make do with sandwich bags.

Hope your ds is withstanding the exam stress ok too. DD very up and down (understandably as only 50 per cent of pupils pass sufficiently to progress from 3rd to fourth year). Two weeks of exams started yesterday (sigh)

Foxes thank you for asking, dh isn't officially working and sil and I are trying to strap him down to a chair but it's v difficult when you run your own business and he was in the office yesterday for two hrs, taking calls last night and is off to the office again shortly.

I've I believe in some areas councils have CCTV directed at spots known for dog poo and some have started identifying culprits through the use of dog dna! Dog poo on pram wheels is horrible!

Big waves to everyone else! Had better get back to it!

Morning all. Another nights sleep here too. Kids have been a bugger this morning. Had two coffees, about to do the school run, then need to deep clean the kitchen (my worst chore) oh and all the usual day to day chores. Joy.

Ta da
10 minute workout
Dc ready for nursery school run
Dishwasher emptied / loaded
Rubbish out

Everything else but I'm on a bit of a go slow. Keep finding myself back on the sofa Hmm. Once we've dropped dd off its back home for a few chores before we go and help out at the community cafe before picking dd back up for lunch. Must get motivated!

CatherineTheTiny · 06/06/2018 08:57

Good morning everyone and thanks for the warm welcome :)
@sc hope your dh feels better soon

  • a big 💐💐 to everyone dealing with exams

I moved all cleaning chores to today as my boss isn't working from home and I can actually do things my way without being criticized/corrected because it's not done his way (🙄)

To do:
-Clean bathroom
-vacuum the house
-Tidy/empty the fridge (I am almost scared of what I might discover)

  • go babysitting
-school run -extracurricular activities
HillsBesideTheSea · 06/06/2018 09:15

ds is ... he is claiming he will fail german because he had a bad speaking exam but he did this last year and was fine in the other aspects of the exam. Yep sandwich bag here and no label on the water bottle. His light bag freaked him out this morning. He kept muttering about having forgotten something. He refused to do any revision so it will go one of two ways. Hmm apparently tonight we are revising 9 science topics HmmHmm yep not sure how that works either.

It's a flare day today and picking my legs up high enough to walk is an issue. So off to nap for a little while.

GoingGoingGoth · 06/06/2018 09:43

When I run the world people who hang dog shit in bags in hedges will be made to wear them. I don't understand it, they've already done the gross bit of picking it up.

So yesterday I made the off the cuff comment of it would be nice to have a garden parasol... we ended up in Paisley to get one. Shops had parasols or bases but not both and DH didn't want to risk them not fitting. (Yes I know it's a universal size thing) We ended up in B&M and saved a fortune compared to the other places.

That’s a lot achieved sc even without poorly DH ⭐️

Caglets have done some home ed with DH (must get round to writing it in the diary again, as I’d stopped completely over half term, and it seems the LEA rep has been replaced now so we may get a letter soon arranging a visit... fantastic timing 🙄)

I’ve just sorted the laundry into piles to be put away, there’s loads to wash but will focus on bedding and towels today.

DH is full of cold which is unlike him. I am devoid of motivation.
