After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

Have sorted out 2 old pillows and a duvet set, not impressed with aldi black bags, they don't do the ones I used to buy and the cheap ones are very thin and rubbish, why do shops stop stocking the things you buy Angry

3 items out of the bathroom into the recycling bin, I have to do that while Dh is at work as he likes to question why i'm getting rid Grin

IHateYourCarpet · 28/03/2018 16:35

WeBuyBooks just quoted me £10.16 for ten books - they're collecting tomorrow! The rest I hope to donate somewhere as soon as someone gets back to me. I'll package them up as soon as DS goes to bed.

I must say, I'd recommend them purely because they collect directly from you Blush I like the idea of someone coming to take my crap away.

AdaColeman · 28/03/2018 19:29

I've tidied up the fridge today, which is always exciting as you'll probably encounter an alien life form in the vegetable drawer.

Got rid of bottles and jars with just dregs in them so made some badly needed space.

ememem84 · 28/03/2018 19:37

Nothing today here. Have been feeling sorry for myself. But I got rid of a load of stuff Monday Tuesday so I’ll bank that!

MrsOH2004 · 28/03/2018 20:43

Hope you feel better soon ememem84
No more here today either.

MajestyRoyal · 28/03/2018 22:34

Ada Grin Unfortunately my fridge doesn't get the chance to grow new life forms as I clean it weekly. Love opening it on a Monday morning to see gleaming mark free glass and being wafted with the smell of bleach though. How sad Blush

Em I hope you're feeling better soon SadThanks

I managed to make a few lists mostly just to feel like I'm actually organised and I threw out an odd sock that's been hopefully waiting to be paired back with its missus who sadly got lost in the washing machine June 2008. She's probably hiding in a duvet corner somewhere.

IHateYourCarpet · 29/03/2018 07:04

Organised all the kitchen cupboards last night Grin bunged god knows how many carrier bags in the recycling, was delighted that in my county you can just bung them in! Got rid of kids with no pans, chipped mugs, two massive tubs of polyfilla that had gone concrete after two years.

I mainly did it as I couldn't face sorting DH's junk pile I'd left from clearing the bookshelf in the living room.

ememem84 · 29/03/2018 08:07

Got rid of a box of tissues last night. Damm cold! Haha! Today I’m tackling the cupboard of doom. I just need to sort it out and reorganise. I don’t think there’s much to throw out in there.

Lunenburg · 29/03/2018 08:36

Went to browse John Lewis in an attempt to escape paint fumes.

I am stunned by how much my year of decluttering has changed my shopping habits.

Somehow all the glitter of new clothes & shoes has disappeared. I couldn't even be bothered to try on the motley collection of odds and ends that seemed OK.

I doubt I will ever again, pay ludicrous prices for bits of rag that just sit in my wardrobe gathering dust. I made a list last night of things I NEED (Jeans, underwear, t shirts etc) and will now focus on finding those.

StealthNinjaMum · 29/03/2018 08:51

I entered four books onto we buy books website. 2 weren't there and the others were worth a combined 27p! Given the minimum order is £5 I am going to have to spend half a day on it before I make any money! I'm not sure if I have enough adult books to do that and I'd rather give the dds books away to the cheap charity shop.

Someone picked up a bag I sold on Facebook last night and tomorrow someone is picking up a blowup mattress that takes up loads of space.

This morning I have put a Christmas jumper in the charity shop pile. I bought it in a sale at Marks for about £4 and have never worn it.It's going to be hard to declutter with dds around but I will try hard. I want to have finished this declutter by the summer. I am going to set a date - 1st July!

It was worth a go I guess Stealth! They wouldn't take a lot of my fiction, but wanted a few obscure Japanese titles and language books.

I'm really hoping that I hear back from the care homes I called yesterday to see if they want the rest! I would take them into work, but don't feel like they deserve them for various reasons Hmm

Breakthrough. This morning DH AGREED HE HAS TOO MUCH STUFF. And the state of the spare room embarrasses him which is a relief because all of DS's stuff is in there too.

I'm going to try to sneak some shoes into the bin today Grin but DH is going to Bookers so I dread to think what'll come back ...

Lunenburg · 29/03/2018 09:24

My experience of the book selling sites stealthninja is that they offer next to nothing for fiction books, more for non-fiction and a lot for obscure text books or non fiction out of print books.

MrsOH2004 · 29/03/2018 10:34

Have sorted my fridge out, and a drawer in the freezer. Just need to clean the fridge before I go shopping.
I really do need to sort out under the stairs for what seems like the millionth time.

SandAndSea · 29/03/2018 11:19

Lunenburg - I know what you mean. I've been enjoying the feeling of space and freedom so much, I just don't want or need to fill it up again. Everything's easier when you've got less stuff.

AdaColeman · 29/03/2018 12:52

MajestyRoyal My fridge will be just like yours very soon! Grin

IHateYourCarpet · 29/03/2018 16:36

Failed to get rid of any shoes, or make room for mine on the rack. But managed to get rid of loads of old half bottles of shampoo and body wash that was seriously PAST its best ... I've also sent off some old VHS's to convert onto DVD for DH's Nanny.

Did buy DS a door bouncer to use in a few weeks time when he's old enough. But I figured by then I'll have gotten rid of his bouncy chair, so they'll be plenty of room to put it.

AdaColeman · 29/03/2018 19:42

Reluctantly admitted that I will never make jam again, so got rid of a cashe of jam jars.

I didn't know you could convert VHS into DVD, I need to find out more about that.

Gibble1 · 30/03/2018 01:11

Got my new car today. Need to get rid of my old one.

AbbieLexie · 30/03/2018 01:26

I've had a lull in the decluttering battle but back on board and motivated. Reading other people's posts is so helpful and inspiring - thank you. Filled a charity bag with tops, jumpers, cardigans and fleeces I don't wear today. Have 2 bags ready to go to the charity shop. I'm going to ask for them to be put in the boot tomorrow as I start to have to the urge to rescue items from the bags!

sandgrown · 30/03/2018 08:52

I sent a bag of games to the charity shop yesterday. Sold some unused make up on e bay and got rid of a huge pile of paperwork. Hope to crack on over the weekend .

Rachyhayes · 30/03/2018 13:49

I am working my kitchen today. Oh how I wish I could afford a live in cleaner lol

I haven't been happy with the cupboard layout and have kept saying I'm changing it about.

It will be done today

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/03/2018 15:20

Hi guys I was on the first thread just re-joining 👋🏼

I've had a super productive few weeks - totally cleared out the cupboard under the stairs (it was full of old floorboards and carpet and boxes of crap I thought I wanted to keep but haven't missed in 5 years - took 2 huge bags to charity); now we can fit the hoover and all our boots and coats and wetsuits and camping gear in there instead of cluttering up the hallway!

StealthNinjaMum · 01/04/2018 20:01

Hello Grumpy. Very jealous you have a useable cupboard under the stairs and a place to keep your hoover. Mine lives in the last room I hoovered.

So about a week ago I emptied out a makeup / skincare samples drawer onto my bedroom floor. I'm embarrassed to say much of the stuff is still there as I've been emptying out and cleaning bathroom cabinets to find homes for things. However I have cleaned the bathroom cabinets and slowly started to tidy things away. I do need some storage boxes at some point. I have also been using up some of the little skincare samples and feel quite good about myself today - with painted nails (hand and feet) and nicely exfoliated and cleansed skin. About 6 bottles have gone in the bin in the last week (so that's my one thing a day!) I also threw away a dead plant of dh's - wonder if he'll notice!

Hope everyone is having a good time and finding it easier to cope with visitors because you have more space and tidier surfaces.

Hi have been lurking. I've managed a good few days (been off). Managed to sort out the spare room got another few bags of clothes to be recycled and toys to go play group. They are all in the shed waiting to go.

Also finished sorting out bedroom and cleared the under stairs cupboard out!

Car boot is full of stuff to go to the tip. Now just need to tidy the bedrooms again and tidy the rest of the house as have visitors tomorrow!

Want to try and sort the paperwork pile this week and next weekend sort the eves cupboard in the spare room.

namastayinbed · 02/04/2018 08:17

I want to get rid of 30 things this month - I don't find that hard but I struggle with stuff coming in! I'm going to keep track of that too so that the net loss is 30.
We are working on our garden so not going to count garden stuff.
An easy one to start with - nothing in or out yesterday.
