Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

STABBED. Not sad. Although being stabbed by a pointy bush does make me sad.

Abstar I'd start with the smallest room, normally the bathroom, just so you can see some nice quick results Grin

SandAndSea · 21/04/2018 22:24

I'm sooo annoyed with myself!! I've done really well clearing my clutter and not buying more stuff. But, I had a wobble and bought 3 bargain dresses online and one of them's arrived and it's horrible on me! I mean really self-esteem destroyingly BAD! It was very cheap so isn't worth posting back. I'm going to have to try to sell it.

Damn my wobble!!!

The good news is that the cat is loving the bag. Every cloud...

Gibble1 · 21/04/2018 23:11

Went away overnight and whilst there realised that my ballet pumps were beyond life and my socks had holes in so I binned both.

PenelopeFlintstone · 22/04/2018 07:11

I've run out of moisturiser so I'm going to spread eye creams on my whole face until my collection of newer and ancient tubes are all finished.

ememem84 · 22/04/2018 07:19

I woke up this morning with the realisation that I go back to work in just over a week. I knew my return from mat leave date and knew the date now but in my head had longer left than I actually do iyswim.

So next week (well tues weds thurs when ds is at nursery) will be spent organising tidying declittering.

Will do a run to the tip as catface clearly doesn’t like her scratcher so need to get rid. It’s ugly and huge.

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 07:37

Well, I put the planters out last night to go get compost and stuff this morning. And someone's nicked them Angry

I have two left in the back garden, I'm thinking if I weight them down with a big rock each in them it should hopefully put people off.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 22/04/2018 08:09

Did a tip run this morning and cleared more rubble out of the garden 🙌🏼

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 08:54

Going to be brave and try on some old formal dresses today. I don't think they'll fit, and I've got no upcoming occasions where I need anything. One of them I wore to my wedding, so I might need a nudge to part with them! Think I'll stick them on Gumtree or something to avoid eBay sellers fees.

I'm also having doubts about the dress I bought for DS's christening. The tags are still on, so I might see if I can exchange it. Got a bag of DH's shoes/clothes to run to the recycling bin, and I'll see if I have anything to add to it.

LostMyBaubles · 22/04/2018 10:21

You're all doing fab getting bits done!

That's horrible someone has taken the planters! CF.

Been to the Sunday market today and picked up a roller blind, all nice and posh for £5! 6 foot new blind. Need one for the kitchen

Once ive got kids homeworks etc out of way need to see what's wrong with my tumble dryer. Keeps saying the filter needs cleaning every few mins and its bloody clean!

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 10:36

Ohhh! There's a fab market near us Grin I should go hunting for a blind.

Both dresses listed on Vinted. There's no way they'll go over my post-pregnancy boobs now, or ever again. Hopefully someone will come take them off my hands!

Ugh. DH did tell me about the planters. He very wisely told me they'd be gone within a few minutes. It's my own fault for putting them out front really Sad I just wanted it to look nice.

LostMyBaubles · 22/04/2018 10:41

It's a bnm blind pricemarked on the inside £24.99
Lovely sequin blind.

We've also got another blind that needs putting up. That was £2.50 an argos home one. Brand new all sealed etc got that from the market too lol just waiting for hubby to put them up!

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 10:51

Oh. And I'm really pissed off.

No one wants my pants Angry they all want tights. I'm not going to win any bets with used tights.

LostMyBaubles · 22/04/2018 11:35

Oh no. How about taking it to those places where they give you money for clothes?

Im sure its like £5 per kilo

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 11:58

Haha. I'll just recycle them, eventually. It's not the point though Grin I wanted to prove DH wrong!

Chimichangaz · 22/04/2018 13:13

Does anyone know if there are places that give cash for any material and not just clothes? I've got some quilt covers, sheets, towels etc to get rid of. No good for charity.

mybrainhurtsalot · 22/04/2018 13:23

If you’re not fussed about the money, Chimichangaz, then I’ve read vets and animal shelters are very grateful for towel donations - they may take sheets & quilt covers too, not sure.

mybrainhurtsalot · 22/04/2018 13:23

Alternatively charities may take them if marked as rags.

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 14:16

No idea I'm afraid Chimi, hope you find somewhere though!

Took five pairs of DH's massive shoes to the recycling place. DS hasn't supported me doing much else, he really isn't coping with the heat and is demanding I sit with him on the sofa while he pushes my hair on his head like a wigHmm

ememem84 · 22/04/2018 14:43

chimi do you have a woman’s/men’s refuge near you? I took a load of bedding down to our local one a while ago. They were super grateful.

Are you near a riding stables? My riding instructor is always grateful for old towels.

namastayinbed · 22/04/2018 15:05

I'm really good at getting stuff out of the house then the ILs or my DPs buy a lot of tat gifts for the DC. I'm glad I started tracking as it's made me realise how much stuff comes in. I'm not going to track next month, it's just out of curiosity this month, but will try a one in one out approach instead.

so far 18 out

in this week 1 tshirt, 1 jumper, 1 pair jeans, 1 load party bag toys (counted as one as they will be culled as one), 2 flannels, 1 bookmark, 1 stationery set, 1 bag pens, 1 school dress

out this week 1 pair socks, 1 pair flip flops, 2 tops, 1 puppet, 3 pairs jeans, 1 hairclip, 1 gift bag

total out in April so far 18

IHateToCashew · 22/04/2018 15:17

That's fantastic Nama! There must be a way of politely refusing in laws gifts... it's the same here. DS ended up with EIGHT new toys for Easter. It's just too much.

ememem84 · 22/04/2018 15:20

Mil is visiting in May. She will bring a shit ton of stuff for ds. Sigh.

Olivo · 22/04/2018 15:41

Once again, inspired by this thread, I have taken 5 bags of toys, cloths and books to the recycling centre, as well as cleaned out the two craft boxes, now only one, a bag for the school fete and half full bin bag! It is SO therapeutic! Thank you for motivating me!

LostMyBaubles · 22/04/2018 15:58

Ahh sunday cleaning day!

I managed to get a very cluttered corner cleaned in the nursery which has been used as spare room.
Old box of shoes ive brought down stairs to bin and some broken hangers.

The other hangers ive stored nicely in a box so its easy to get to!

Wish I would have taken a pic!

namastayinbed · 22/04/2018 17:22

20 out - dead plant and old socks.

Yes cashew I'm grateful for gifts and happy the kids have people who want to spoil them, but we have a small house and it's just too much.
