Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

I agree that a) they’re easy to acquire in a hurry if needed and b) you only need one.

StealthNinjaMum · 04/04/2018 17:57

Ok thanks I was wobbling, I wish I knew you all in real life you'd be chucking all my stuff away. I will keep one. I tend to freeze rather than wear tights in the summer vain and I haven't been to a wedding for years. I now only own about 6 pairs. I am also going to throw away some knickers when dc are in bed.

namastayinbed · 04/04/2018 18:55

Bin the tights apart from one pair.

Keeping up my tally - I'm now at 8 items out this month (in - 1 enormous padded envelope, out - 2 bottles of things I'll never use from the bathroom cupboard).

AdaColeman · 04/04/2018 19:07

Haven't thrown anything out today but have started gathering together books and vases etc ready for the next charity shop bag that pops through the letter box.

AdaColeman · 04/04/2018 19:10

Oh the bathroom cupboard is a good idea, all those Christmas gift sets of stuff I know I will never use....

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/04/2018 21:27

Posted the jacket I sold on eBay today, does that count?

Gibble1 · 04/04/2018 23:08

Folded up about 4 loads of washing after I finished work this evening.
Only out was some socks which have gone straight in the bin and 2 pairs of holey pyjamas which are ready for ragging.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 05/04/2018 06:45

This weekend it's time for tools and the shed (because the shed is full, the house is cluttered up with stuff that should be in there..,)

StealthNinjaMum · 05/04/2018 09:48

7 old pairs of knickers in the bin (surely no-one would want them?)

Hi I managed to sell a car seat the other day but got a new one coming this week so not sure that counts!

Need to go through Ds tshirts tjen can take all clothes bags to the recycling place.

Made a deal with dp that all of pil stuff that we have will be sorted by August (fingers crossed it happens).

Going to try and empty one of the bedroom cupboards this weekend and hopefully have a car full of bits to dump again.

I had a good tidy last week (couple of days off who put DS) and the house looks so much bigger now just need to keep on top of it.

PurpleFrog · 05/04/2018 10:22

It's bin day today, so last night I got a black bag and put in a number of things that have been lying around for a while because I can't decide what to do with them. Some of the things I had already "mentally decluttered" to landfill, I just had to go and get them. They are out in the bin at the side of the road now, and I am at work so I can't go and rescue them...

Last night I also tidied away properly some things that had been lying around in the main part of the loft for months, like rolls of Christmas wrapping paper!

MajestyRoyal · 05/04/2018 11:27

I'm stuck on what to declutter! I've sorted my wardrobe (clothes and all accessories), all of my beauty products (using them all up slowly but surely) most things have a 'place' now and I don't have anything that obviously desperately needs to be sorted throughSad I'm feeling in a decluttering mood today, hopefully I will find something

CiderwithBuda · 05/04/2018 14:44

Hadn’t told DH I was doing this but he has gotten rid of one of those plastic shower attachments that we had for washing the dogs but never used. Just spotted it in the bin. So that’s one thing gone today.

I still need to do charity shop run though...........

StealthNinjaMum · 05/04/2018 15:50

I haven't told dh I''m doing this either but he has started to notice and decluttering himself a tiny bit.

This morning I threw out a broken washing line that's been hanging around for years. I have also just spotted a hole in the dress I'm wearing so that'all go on the rags pile with yesterday's tights.

IHateToCashew · 05/04/2018 16:25

Posted way too soon!

I've lost all motivation. The house is a tip, DH has been dumping stuff everywhere, DS is projectile vomiting and I go on holiday tomorrow Blush I need to find something. ANYTHING to get rid of.

BusterGonad · 05/04/2018 17:32

I've just emptied the car of sweet wrappers and stuff, put the pet food in it's allocated area (was in the car) and put the HUGE tub of paint near the house for tomorrow. Currently painting so can't do much but I've made a few more sales on eBay so shall be posting them tomorrow!!!

yummyeclair · 05/04/2018 17:40

Going to give it a go!

StealthNinjaMum · 05/04/2018 17:50

Come on IHateToCashew you can do it. Even if it's an old receipt in your handbag or wallet or an out of date item of food.

OP posts:
IHateToCashew · 05/04/2018 18:10

Thank you stealth! Cleared 8 past best items out of the freezer, and threw away a chipped mug and cracked plate Grin

MajestyRoyal · 05/04/2018 20:56

I managed to chuck out a bobble Sad it was stretched and sad and I have loads of perfectly usable ones but it was the only thing I could find today that really needed to go. Hope I'm better at decluttering tomorrow, I really feel motivated!

Crazycatladyx5 · 05/04/2018 21:09

I decluttered DD9s room earlier this week. In fact I gutted it. Took me 10 hours. (I'm on holiday, she was at her dad's.)
Single bed gone to grandaughter.
4 black bags of toys to grandaughter plus a buggy.
2 bags to grandson.
1 bag to go to my Reception class.
16 bags of cuddly toys & baby dolls to charity shop.
50 books to charity shop.
23 sets of Sylvanian family toys sold.
DD sleeping in highsleeper again. Got her a tiny bed settee for sleepover guests & to sit on to play on PS3. Still room to play with playmobil & Lego friends....till we sell that too!
Now to tackle the rest of the house..

TheGrumpySquirrel · 05/04/2018 22:20

@Crazycatladyx5 well done!! Impressive.

I was just reading the "horribly messy houses" thread and now I'm itching to de clutter more!

sandgrown · 06/04/2018 07:09

A bag of rags to charity. Binned lots of broken plastic toys and some paperwork. Can see a little difference.

sandgrown · 06/04/2018 07:24

That's really impressive cat lady. How will your daughter react? At that age I think my daughter had my hoarding tendencies and would have been upset. As an adult her house is so tidy now .
