Well pretty much everything went wrong today. I have gone to bed in a huff, or rather DH sent me when he got home at 11, he will bring baby up soon

ta da
✅tumble drying (only because DS did it)
✅more admin for Book Day party

ta didn’t
✅cook the planned dinner, because the beans I bought today were mouldy, and the cauliflower cheese in the fridge was awful when cooked, and the oven didn’t cook the chicken so I left it and now it’s all shrivelled
✅Tesco order, meant to do it early as DH pointed out it would be booked up sooner due to snow, and dammit he was right.
✅move off the sofa for about three hours thanks to grumpy baby

It’s just been one of those evenings. And I’ve just realised we haven’t sorted DSS a birthday present, it’s March 1st and always comes round so quickly, I really meant to sort it earlier this year and still didn’t, even though I’ve known what I wanted to get him for ages.

Plus things have gone a little bit crazy with the relative I’ve mentioned recently, but it’s something I can’t really tell DH, which is driving me batshit because I need to rant! FFS.

Cagliostro · 26/02/2018 23:42

Oh but I did make rice Krispy cakes with the kids. That’s about as good as my ‘baking’ skills get. Quite tasty though. And nice to do something in the kitchen with them, I really can’t wait till we move, as most of the houses coming up have kitchens the size of our current living room! It will be amazing having space, we barely have any counter space ATM.

I’m not even sure if I can get my bloods or weigh ins done tomorrow because snow. May be cancelling sports club too which is a great start to the year but to be expected really.

Tomorrow will be better right 😩😩😩

CotswoldStrife · 27/02/2018 00:25

Rant away Cag, if you need to - we are good listeners.

Thanks for the Gin I may be needing that at 12.01am on Thursday morning when I check the secondary school allocations.

As you can see, it's not an early night tonight and I have been beaten by Cag to bed Grin Links next! Stay safe if you are expecting or already have snow, I don't think we are due a lot until Thursday afternoon (so World Book Day will be fine here, if DD ever decides what she wants to be ...)

Afreshcuppateaplease · 27/02/2018 06:15

Ta da

Wash on
Dryer on

foxessocks · 27/02/2018 06:29

Dh got up to leave at 5.30 andwoke me up because he was checking snow reports on his phone. He has a long drive today and wasnt sure what what so but he has left now. The road ia eerily silent outside. Then ds woke up and did a big poo but he has gone back to bed without a fuss so that's something. I decided to make a coffee and enjoy the peace but now I wish id gone back to sleep!

afresh we had an asda delivery last night and the poor bloke was determined to finish his deliveries despite thick snow coming down at that point!

Stay safe everyone

Bowerbird5 · 27/02/2018 06:50

Morning,
Just a light covering here so far. Hope it doesn't come down too heavy while I am at work and I can't get back.it is my day off tomorrow. I could catch a train and stay with son. Must make sure I take a key to his house.
Feel tired. Went to bed late and I was awake for nearly two hours.
Not much done yesterday but was very busy at school.

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 07:03

Morning all! Very early start as there is a transport strike here today so dd went in very very early. No snow as yet save for tiny flutters. I'm feeling a bit rough with sore ears and throat and wierd rash on my chest so going to make a GP appt. I've got quite a bit of 'work' work on ATM and now I've found med papers (yay!) need to do resulting admin for that too...plus LOADS of laundry.

Have a good one everybody! And keep warm!

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 07:06

Hills and anyone else. How do you dry woollens in this cold weather?

Callmecordelia · 27/02/2018 07:09

On an airer in a warm room SC. DS has a lot of woolly clothes. Useful today!

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/02/2018 07:33

I dry on an airer too. I use the wrap in a towel like sausage and stand on it trick to get extra water out after handwashing. The new washing machine is a special snowflake and refuses to do a spin cycle like the old one did so it is totally back to old fashion tricks. I am in no mood for felting anything so wool = hand wash.

There is well over an inch of snow on the ground here. I need to pick my car up from the garage later, it might be doubtful if I get it home Hmm work is shut - some sort of issue caused by cold weather. which means I should be doing a lot of flying. Hmm And I think I might need something strong as I need to fix ds' radiator which seems to be on strike and refusing to work which will require taming the mess in his room in order to access it

Callmecordelia · 27/02/2018 07:42

I make sure everything I knit or is given to DS is superwash. I can't do handwashing with a toddler around. Things get felted when they get lost in the washing basket and get put on with normal stuff! I just lost a little sleeveless woolly vest that way. And my favourite hat.

I should have a separate woolly washing basket, but there's no room.

Longtime · 27/02/2018 07:42

Sorry I didn’t say hello to everyone else! It was too close to bedtime (was determined to have an early night by my standards) to read through all I missed. Hope all is well with everyone🙂

foxessocks · 27/02/2018 08:03

Goodness I feel a bit silly Blush what does felted mean?! We don't have many woollens I just look at the label for how to wash and dryusually says dry flat so I do that. I'm a complete laundry idiot I think I've ruined a lot of stuff over the years and have learned to always read the label! Blush

Longtime · 27/02/2018 08:05

There seems to be more snow around in the UK than here. We have a light dusting on our new car! How dare it!! Lovely and sunny here, though bitterly cold. I’m sure there are plenty of people who are not too upset they cant get to school and work because of the strike today!

Glad you found your papers Sc. I need to continue with the sorting today and at least try and get one room I’ve started I sorted out. Sorry to hear you are feeling unwell. There is a lot of it about.

Hope today isn’t too much of a struggle for all those dealing with snow. I think we are due it on Friday but temperatures are due to shoot up by the weekend so just a few days to struggle through hopefully.

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 08:08

Thanks all! I do the towel thing too Hills. That's a bummer about the spin cycle on your wm as I imagine you have lots of lovely hand knits. I have laundry room in basement but nothing dries down there because it's too cold. I hate having washing hanging about on ground floor but needs must I guess. When I was in charge of buying dd's clothes, I bought endless fleeces (which she still wears), but there are many more woollen jumpers in the mix now she is choosing stuff herself, plus she has a doting aunt who knits for her. Plus dh (big bloke) wears tons of jumpers. I have a separate basket for woollies and delicates and never seem to reach the bottom of it in winter. Just wondered if I was missing a trick somewhere ... .

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 08:13

Yes I don't mind the cold so much as long as it is bright Longtime. (Lighting is so bad in this house, can't see properly when it's gloomy, and it gets one down a bit!). Decluttering and cleaning goes much better with bright sunshine I think! Good luck with the sorting.

Foxes felting is the matted/shrunken effect you get when a wool item is washed too hot or spun too quickly or both. It's usually ruined!

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/02/2018 08:20

working central heating helps. Apparently we don;t have that atm. I have just had to turn the boiler off. Going to appreciate the wool stuff today.

Felting foxes is were the wool fibres gets matted and fuzzed together. Often also involves the shrinking. Some 'wool' looking items are acrylic based and not wool wool so more tolerant. Fibre content will also affect how easy it is to felt stuff. Also sometimes you want to felt stuff like if you are making slippers and the washing machine/dryer is useful in this process.

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 08:24

Hills you have no central heating? Oh no!!!!!

Cagliostro · 27/02/2018 08:29

Our house doesn’t have central heating. We have storage heaters downstairs which don’t work (well they switch on but they don’t actually get warm) and two electric radiators upstairs. We are using the latter plus a plug in heater downstairs. Caglets are well trained to switch that on if they are up first!

I think they’re all at the Coop for breakfast things, I can’t hear anyone. Baby has been feeding lots (realised she’s due a growth spurt) and I’ve not gotten up yet. Some snow did fall and settle last night.

Steamcloud · 27/02/2018 08:36

Sounds chilly Cag, our house is drafty and cold too, despite having central heating! Any news on the moving front?

foxessocks · 27/02/2018 08:51

I need to get the dc dressed and in the garden before the morning disappears and we haven't moved off the sofa Confused feel like I have to make the most of the snow!
