Hello all - welcome to our February thread for 2018. Everyone is welcome and it's never too late to join in. We are decluttering our homes and keeping them clean and tidy(ish) as well as having some general chat as well.

We follow the Flylady method, and will post links daily to the missions via the Flylady website. For more information, have a look at www.flylady.net/

Here's to a fun February for all of us (with the occasional prod from the pointy stick of motivation and visits to the naughty corner Cake Brew Wine ) Grin

Packed orders.

Bowerbird5 · 16/02/2018 09:52

HillsJust rol do dairy free pastry. You have to check though as some are both. Eg. Short crust
I made a dairy fre coffee and walnut cake yesterday with dairy free margarine. It has come out really well lovely and light. Still experimenting. I haven't tried making pies actually. I used to make them when kids lived at home. I made some hot water ones for somebody once as she had an order to fill and was ill. She sent daughter over to ask me. I had never made them before but they turned out really well. They were made with lard and hot water. I couldn't face all that lard though and never made them again. Do you get the ham hock from butcher. My friend and I used to buy a few of those( very cheap) make soup and take out hock for the main. Would be very tasty in pies. Especially with homemade Picallilli mmmmm! Making me hungry.

Bowerbird5 · 16/02/2018 10:05

Sorry just re read that and you do know about it.

Goth this is where a food processor is your friend! Takes seconds to whizz it up but I have used jus rol when very short of time and DD nicked my old processor before I got my new Kenwood mixer with little processor.
I buy my pie from the butcher. We don't have it very often but very good uses good steak. Mmm DH and I have been known to eat( demolish) a whole one. Might venture over there today. You've got me thinking about pies now! Could get fish mix for tonight for fish pie.Steak Pie for tomorrow. Something to roast for Sunday then leftovers for Monday.😄 when I will be back at work.
DH coughing so much he had to get up. He made me tea😃 so lazy bones is just getting up. I am resting a lot to try and get rid of this virus. It seems to be working I am feeling a lot better and haven't been to hospital for a whole week! Asthma been ok. Might venture out for a short walk up a long hill. That will test it!

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 16/02/2018 10:19

Decluttering is annoying. Any space saved has to be filled with storage for what's left and even the cheap storage adds up.

Also MN site is annoying.Anytime I write a post it randomly takes words I have in one sentence and adds them to a sentence further up the post.

Today need to finish organising arts and crafts. Husband is too lax again I really can't cope. Him not doing a job he's supposed to do can mean difference between me catching a 30 min break.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/02/2018 10:48

Last night i dreamt about asda making a new line of dairy free jars of sauces. What the fuck is that all about.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/02/2018 11:30
Grin

I think some of us here might have had a part in that afresh but that would be a bit epic. ds loves the milk free carbonara sauce

bower never heard of ham hock before will look it up. Do a fabulous bacon pie from a gammon joint though. Steak and kidney is on my hit list for another day. not tried making that one. Currently on to fruit pies to use up pastry.

Yep yep to food processor also REST the dough a lot it stops it getting heavy. Overworked pastry is not nice.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/02/2018 11:34

I dont shop at asda. It was weird. I was excited in my dream. But i buy those sauces alreadt from tesco so it is just odd!

Ta da

School run packed lunches uniform etc
Wash on
Dryer on
Pots washed
Table wiped
Highchair wiped
Worktops wiped
Hob wiped
Kitchen swept
Recycling out
Nipped to shop

CotswoldStrife · 16/02/2018 12:01

Kitchen replacements are stressful, we spent a week eating boiled eggs and bagged salads at one point due to my mum's concerns about the building dust. There is just something about building dust that takes days to settle, you are constantly wiping it up from the same places!

I think we are coming out of the colds now, I still feel a bit rough but DD is looking much brighter. The half-term (which was this week for us) has been a wipeout though which is unfortunate. Still the weekend to go

Will get some lunch and BBL.

Afresh just nipped in before I go to nearby village to shop( 5 /6 miles) DH was making noises about going but daren't let him out on his own, there is no telling what he will bring back ( random purchases) or how long he will take ( re Chinese meal to those who read it 2 hrs late) so ... Will check out ham hock while at butchers. Might be local name. Might buy one now I am thinking about it.

Really laughed out loud at your trip to ASDA dream afresh. Have had some weird ones myself especially when on medication and don't get me on about morphine. Why anyone takes drugs for recreation I'll never know. Can still remember part of a nightmare I had in hospital once about people chasing me. The scariest thing I have ever dreamt. So vivid too. I was shaking and nurse had to wake me as I was screaming.

Bowerbird5 · 16/02/2018 12:06

Sorry ham hock message was for hills, brain malfunction.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/02/2018 13:08

I think I have heard the term before so it is probably more my lack of knowledge on meat joint names rather than necessarily local. I want a chest freezer and half a pig to put in it. There is no room. Not sure I'd know what to do with all the different joints either but in my head it sounds like a good idea Hmm

foxessocks · 16/02/2018 13:08

Ds slept in the car for 10 minutes so now thinks he has had his nap Hmm he is in his bed but can hear him chattering to himself. Probably turn to whinging soon but I'm still holding out for a proper nap...

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/02/2018 13:09

Really fed up of money this month. It has been crap. Post christmas with birthdays. Roll on march!

foxessocks · 16/02/2018 13:20

Same here afresh

Damn it damn it damn it. I went to check on ds as he has been quiet for ages and woke him up Angry wanted to check on him because of his banged head so I was worried. I'm such an idiot!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/02/2018 13:23

Oh dear foxes! If he doesnt sleep now maybe he will sleep amazingly tonight!

foxessocks · 16/02/2018 15:22

To do
Downstairs loo

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/02/2018 15:48

foxes better to check when banged heads involved than not. Consequences to severe. looks at ds who was nearly airlifted between hospitals due to a head injury hope you can get a good night with him but if he had a bad head bump you might need to sacrifice a good nights sleep to keep an eye on him. Sorry Flowers

I am not going away. I can't be arsed and feel like shit so don't want the extra driving. I can change my mind tomo after a good night's sleep if I want so I have options. But right now meh, meh and a bit more meh.

Lucky11111 · 16/02/2018 17:32

Hi there everyone

Can I join ?

I know about fly lady from years ago, but would love to be part of a crowd - all fluttering at once.

My 'babies' are teenagers now, but I have a new addition to cause chaos - a little 11 week kitten.

I desperately need some cheering on - my house is a tip and I dread unannounced visitors Confused

Afreshcuppateaplease · 16/02/2018 17:38

Welcome lucky

I cannot stand unannounced visitors!

Cagliostro · 16/02/2018 20:17

Me neither! Welcome!

Errands to run tomorrow - pick up parcel from post office, pick up order from Asda, change item in debenhams. DH is taking DS to ballroom which means child (not baby) free time for me while I do said errands woohoo.

Made it back from mum’s. Planning to buy a few bits to keep there like a travel cot and folding stroller.

In other news, OMG, getting very near the top of the housing list now. So could be moving in the next couple of months. SO much to do. Eeeeeeek

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/02/2018 21:06

How exciting cag
Welcome lucky

Callmecordelia · 16/02/2018 21:39

Welcome Lucky!

I like unannounced visitors. I get quite lonely being a sahm. I appreciate I'm in the minority though, but I wish I had more of them.

Half term is grinding on. I am ill again. DC are both snotty. DH has some sort of event on at work and isn't really here in any meaningful sense. My parents are still in India. I have just done a load of batch cooking even though I'd rather have done anything else, because otherwise the meat would be past its sell by date.

I am so tired. Why can't I go to sleep?

Sorry. That post turned into a self pitying outpouring. Everything will look better in the morning, if I get some bloody sleep.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/02/2018 22:08

Welcome Lucky Grin.

I also like unannounced visitors most of the time.

Thanks for the tissues this morning Bower, I needed them! Feeling a bit sorry for myself as am still ill, voice is struggling and have a busy weekend of relatives and DD2 party and then it’s half term. Just having a quick tidy up then heading to bed where I will cough and be unable to breathe through my nose. Fun times.

I do understand that in the grand scheme of things none of that is bad at all but I always feel better for a good moan Grin.

Bowerbird5 · 16/02/2018 22:47

Moan away. I'm just getting over it. Sometimes we just feel fed up.
